Most people who play Eve also play all the other games that come out too. Every major group in Eve could easily pass for a gaming clan you know you all even have a forum section devoted to other games!

Eve Online really shows it's greatness by the fact that it's the game we continually play. The others usually just get cycled though by winning or sheer boredom. There is a depth to Eve that makes it special you know?

If Star Citizen realizes all those fancy dreams, the worst case scenario is we have 2 games to continue playing! One with depth and one where you get to hone your flying skills.

People may say the two games have nothing in common, but the truth is they have one thing very much in common- people like us who enjoy flying internet spaceships!

The games are different enough that they can both be used to fill the flying spaceships void we all feel!

Has anyone here pledged? What ship did you get? I'm thinking about getting either the Aegis Dynamics Avenger or just a simple RSI Aurora.

If Star Citizen delivers, the people who move over are those most affected by avatar gameplay. Personally I've always wanted to be able to control my own ship, swoop around my enemies the way I want to instead of clicking an orbit/approach/keep at range button etc. So if SC pulls it off, I'll probably put EVE on the shelf.

It doesn't mean EVE is bad. Just that EVE is ship-perspective and SC is person-perspective. It's just flavor.

this . thats why i loved freelancer still do still play it,being able to actually fly the ship makes pvp more enjoyable my two cents worth Smile

I haven't pledged yet, but I'm going to!

Game just got on my radar a little while ago...

I'm undecided which ship- I'd like to know how gimped a single pilot is going to be in a multi-pilot ship before I decide. Unfortunately I don't think anyone can answer that yet (even the developers).

I know my corpies will be dropping by to man the guns I just don't know how often!

Hm... I'm going to take a look at it when it comes out, of course... but I guess the small scale the game will work on alone will make it no competitor to EVE.

I pledge the $45, so I got the Aurora and alpha/beta access. Still downloading the hanger mod released today.

I don't see how this game will kill Eve. Most MMO players play multiple games. I also play Entropia Universe and Star Trek Online and (somewhat shamefully) played POTBS and Evony. I know many who also play WoW, WOT and others. I actually heard about Eve while playing EU from players there that had Eve accounts and jumped back and forth. It won't kill anything, except space on people's computers for all the games they have lined up.

The only thing that will kill Eve is Eve (well, CCP anyway)

I pledged very early (I'm like pledger #3,000) and went for the mercenary package. I've been a tad disconnected from SC and actually still haven't contacted support to address my account issues with the new site.

Anyway, on the games stuff: many players don't have the time to play more than one game, let alone a complex game such as EVE. With EVE average player being older than 34, time constraints are a serious factor.

To people like me, it's EVE and nothing else, and shall I play another game, that will come to the expense of EVE. Multiply that by EVE demographic and suddenly you may find a lot of people who stop playing EVE as they play something else with their limited video game time.

At present I own a 325a (the interceptor version of the 300i), an M50 and a Freelancer.

For those that have pledged at least the $30 Digital Scout package, the Hangar module has gone live yesterday, allowing you to log into your hangar, and walk around your ships (those few that are done at least) and interact with them.

The fitting screen is a bit clunky at the moment, but I managed to fit my 300i (there's a bug with 325a upgrades not showing atm) with a pair of much larger lasers from the Freelancer, and move one of its default lasers to the nose cannon mount. :)

Surprisingly intuitive once you get used to it, although a bit clunky with a first person click and drag interface and a really low framerate. :D Sitting in those ships though, walking around them, and taking screenshots is quite something.

Thought the ships are rather tiny compared to EVEs monolithic combat vessels.

Remember: it's a pre-pre-pre-alpha build, which is called technically a STRAYR (Software That Runs At Your Risk).

Guess I'll have to contact support and get my account sorted so I can log in and download it...

...or just wait for the inevitable Youtubes. Cool

Oh, I don't mind the terrible frame-rate, this build is so early, I'm surprised my 3 year old PC runs it at all. Big smile
The animation while piloting is even worse, it drops to single digit frames then, but it's very well animated. Blink

Just happy to walk around the hangar and look at my ships, after I turn the motion blur off. P

Although with the latest patch they've changed the fitting interface slightly, and made it even more clunky.
You need to hold TAB now in order to interact with the fitting hologram, I much prefer the toggle it used previously.

I have a cutlass and a constellation ship Wise, and yes even though it's only a pre alpha release, the graphics look amazing since it is using the Crysis 3 engine and Cloud imperium is aiming to use 8 GB of system ram to run the game, which would be the first game to ever use that much memory, and really looking forward to the combat module thaat will be made available just before Xmas, where we'll get to see the outside world and experience the neutonian physics first hand and piloting the ship from the Inside( finally).

Eve can be fun, but after playing it for over 10 years straight and having only space submarines as far as physics go, i got nothing left to aim for and please don't start with the whole " having all skills to lvl 5 yet", since i'n not far from having 200 skills at lvl 5 already which is more than enough, and even PVP gets boring after doing it for a few hundred times and fighting for the same areas of space.....

Well, time to pee in your cereals.

The visuals aren't impressive to be brutally blunt. What would be impressive is if Chris Roberts manage to create a believable AI that you could have a human like interaction with other than pre-determined questions and answers.

That would be immersion to me.

Still not convinced this game will work. Roberts has been pining for a comeback for over a decade now but still hasn't been able to make it work yet. Now that i've seen more of the game i wonder whether his raw ambition blinded him about the reality of creating the game he wants to make.

If you do things right, people won't be sure you've done anything at all...

Are you dooming a game based upon a partial pre-alpha build of single functional and "not impressive" module?

Dooming? No.

I am taking whatever Chris Roberts has said, promised to deliver, and anything in between, with a f*ckton of salt though.

I am not sure the AI is the real selling point neither are the visuals. While its important to look good, I think they are trying to build a solid foundation. A space adventure that you can personalize.

That being said, however, I am very skeptical that this game will deliver on all promises. But in the spirit of fair sport, while I still have $40 bucks to spend, I figured I would donate to the cause.

To put it another way, I would trade some visuals for better gameplay and longterm value. If anyone can pull this off, its Chris Roberts. And if this fails, this could be a watershed moment for PC gaming in a very bad way.

You did see that video of the constellation right?, and the bengal class carrier is amazing visually and this is still alpha code and looking better than whatever CCP managed to release in incarna by quite a bit, which is just captains quarters where the only notable thing is changing one's aperance and that's it....

All the otther stuff that was promised to be eventually released is ancient history.....Ugh

In terms of avatar content, EVE is out of the game for the next 3 years. The development plan for 2013-16 is set already, and CCP still hasn't made up its mind about Incarna.

So we cannot expect anything but prettier ships in a prettier space still life. People does not exist in New Eden, but at least we get to look at 13 kilometer long phalluses...
