What is the best route to maximize fun and profit as a young player? . I have people telling me to go mine,.. did it in a venture and it was... dull.

Well this is either a troll or the people advising you are not very nice.

Faction warfare is a good mix of fun PvP and ISK. .

If you don't enjoy mining, don't mine. Find something else in the huge list of possibilities that you do enjoy.

Just trying to figure out the community's overall view in what is a good median for fun and profit as a new player. The skill time seems so broad that I would rather try something that would be fun and profitable than wasting my time on the droll aspects that I will have no use for down the line. Given that maybe mining gets better??

Stacks of options, starting and ending with PvP. DON'T get into missions - they really suck.

Faction warfare is in lowsec (dangerous) but has a good blend of the ability to find good fights and the ability to make ISK. Best of all it is perfectly fine to start with T1 frigates which makes it affordable.

You should find a noob friendly corp.

Well in the simplest form you stalk faction warfare regions fighting the people in the faction corps. Big smile Pretty much what I do a lot of the time.

Hard to make a living from until you are experienced.

The problem here is with the question itself because simply said we can not judge what you find fun.

State what stuff you like doing and then someone can say what suits best for that direction.

PVE
PVP
Markets
Scamming

Those are the bases basically and each ahve their own subparts in eve.

We are all born ignorant, but one must work hard to remain stupid.

Scamming.. don't know if I have the heart for it

In my opinion? No.
There's some that love mining... So long as others are doing it with them. Anything is fun once it becomes a social activity.

Related to that, I'd suggest joining a corp soon. This game frankly stinks without em. Things get a lot better when you've got others to discuss and argue with, joke with, gain experience from, scheme with.

Similarly, joining a corp also increases your profit and fun opportunities. With allies, many options open up - All you have to do is think of them. It might also open up access to new space, like low-sec or null-sec. I'd venture to guess that most low- or null- dwellers see high-sec as a terribly boring place that they would prefer to avoid.

And regarding low- and null-, there's inherent risk involved.... And risk is fun. Safety is boring. Fact.

Finally, I have fun and make gobs of profit by working the markets. Yes, it involves math and spreadsheets, but as a direct result of that extra effort, I make enough money to fund many PVP players' losses at once. My success this venture is part of what made it fun. I don't spend drudgery time killing rats or mining.
Instead, I tend to log in when there's other forms of fun to be had, such as 6VDT and Asakai.

Don't make the mistake of conflating Piracy and PvP

You can only make money doing PvP if you have the skill points and money (and actual irl skill) to be good at it.

But you can join a corps and ransom a mining barge with only 2 hours under your belt

nope.
it doesn't, sorry.

like most things in RL, doing the same thing in game gets repetitive, aka boring.
so combine Missions with some type of pvp combat, or missions & exploration etc.

FW, & RVB are both new pilot friendly and quickly accessible
Exploration takes a little skill training, but is also quickly accessible
Missions are new pilot friendly, and they progress to better pay outs over time

Incursions are a possibility down the line, (c. 6-12 months of skill training)
most incursion FCs will be looking for a solid T2 fit Faction BS or Logistic Cruiser
which means you have a while in training times before you can start looking there.

The community's view is irrelevant. What some find fun others hate. I know people who love spending hours studying the market, buying, selling, etc. I hate that. I enjoy the research and logistics involved with complex manufacturing, others will think I'm insane.

Try stuff out. If you enjoy it great, if you don't, try something else.
