Malcanis does not represent CCP. He is not a CCP employee or contractor.

Even if, as the more easily offended might assert, he is occasionally less than diplomatic in the forums, he is a zealous advocate of sanity and common sense when it comes to his CSM duties, and thus enjoys the unanimous support of his colleagues and, as far as I know, the vast majority of those voters who wisely included him in their ballots.

In case Treb used words too big for you, let me break it down and add a bit of my own take

1) Malcanis is working and working well in the CSM
2) Aside from some noisy folks who don't like his blunt manner most players like to be told how it is
3) It would be impossible for one player to suit all the styles within Eve. We cannot even TRY to set a common standard
4) We are who we are, if you voted you have some right to complain. If you didn't vote then shut up.

You want polite responses? Some of us do that too. But do not expect all of us to be purity and light.

Well this little kerfuffle seems to be dying down now. As is my preference, I'll bring some data to the discussion.

Anyone who got elected had a platform. Thats where you had to go to see if they would represent you. If thier ideas were similar to your and in line with what you wanted, you should vote for them. If not, pick someone else.

If nobody's platform was representative of what you wanted, then you should of built your own and run for election. If it was representative of enough toher players, you would of gotten elected.

Sure they had a platform, but in fact... they are not CCP. Every member of the CSM could support the removal of Highsec, but it would be irrelevant... CCP wants it.

I didn't vote for anyone because I expected their view of Eve to be implemented (it isn't going to be), but because of their knowledge, abilities, passion and character. I voted for Ali Aras not because I did or didn't support her vision of Eve. It was because she quit EvE.. it lacked what she wanted, but she came back and has passion. She has know something that others might not.

Macanis got my attention when during the election I was challenging his view of EvE... at a minimum I was misrepresenting his views... in reality it might be closer to say I was distorting them. He called me out on it and called me a troll. Smile

During an election looking for votes, he still wasn't going to let anyone get away with that. He was blunt. In protecting the game I believe he would do the same with CCP.

Ah I see the usual suspects have started spewing their mindless drivel. There's the easily offended who see a CSM members blunt and honest comments as an affront. There's the WoW refugee, with an inflated sense of self importance, who wants CCP to follow every other Dev who has tried to compete with Blizzard into oblivion and then there's those who think that the CSM are actually the puppets of Goonswarm.

I've got news for all of the above, the CSM are there to improve the game for everyone and to stomp all over stupid ideas such as (notso)microtransactions, the outlawing of ganking, bumping, scamming and the general stupidity of players who believe that Eve should be a clone of every other game out there because....insert amazingly stupid statement about how it would be better. They are not there to pander to your idiotic whims.

If you didn't vote in the CSM elections then you have absolutely no reason or right to critique the current CSM, you had your opportunity and you wasted it, go away.

TL;DR Don't like the concept of Eve as a cold, harsh game where the merciless and devious are celebrated/ hated, often at the same time by the same people, in equal measure ? then find another game that's more to your liking.

In case clicking links is hard for anyone who's reading this thread, there are over 6,000 hits for "bullshit" on Eve-search.

But as Homer Simpson once wisely observed: "Those are just facts. You can prove anything with those things"

Your move, Ace Blink

You know he won't read that Malcanis, Ace seems to block anybody who disagrees with his/her world view or that can present a coherent argument, I'm surprised Tippia has lasted as long as he has.

I'm on that list with you, and I consider myself in good company Big smile

Yeah, no bullshit in that statement. Tippia trolls harder than any of the 3 of us in any case, but remains unblocked by Ace. Honestly astonishing.

The best part, I thought, was that Ace blocked Malcanis for telling her that DotLan does, in fact, use EVE API. I mean, that is ten kinds of bullshit.

Let's just say that Ace is someone whom I am happy to know that I have her bad opinion.

And still you got top vote on all my accounts. I rather have a representative that can take a hit and retort with a valid argument than some nitwit who avoids a discussion altogether. You proved me wrong in said post, which only strengthens my faith in your integrity.

You're a little trickster tho, don't make me put our personal NSFW stuff in this thread! Bear

For a representative on the CSM. Ya know, the whole reason why the election happen, so the players can choose who will represent them in front of CCP?
Again this represent word?

Has your representative asked you your opinion or views on any issue? Have the CSM as a whole polled the player base on what they want? Did they come to the player with changes CCP was thinking of making and getting our opinion? I see no representation at all in CSM.

For me, I voted for Technical Experts to interface with CCP. Ones I felt were either knowledgeable or brought something to the table. I would have voted for mynnna (Goonswarm and evil of course), if I didn't already believe they were a lock. In game Mynnna would destroy my ships, take all my ISK, and the probably find some way to erase my skill points, but... he knows part of this game that very few do. In his area he is an expert.

He sure doesn't represent me.

Dude... I'm a n00b, but I clearly remember a post inviting players to a townhall meeting to discuss the game and things players had to say about it. They wanted players thoughts on the matter so that they'd have something to say to CCP on their next meeting with them. That is a classic example of representation.

If you didn't participate in the townhall meet and said your say, that's your fault.

Watch this space.  New exciting signature in development.

Representation - "The action of speaking or acting on behalf of someone or the state of being so represented."

Do you feel mynnna will act on your behalf?

If a member of the CSM uses their title and position as a tool to defraud players out of their Corp... is that acting on their behalf?

If a majority of the player base wanted an end to ganking... do you think your representatives would fight for that?

They each have the view of the game and what can be done to improve it. They will listen to other people ideas... that doesn't mean they will push for any of them. A thousand townhall meetings calling for the end of highsec war decs... won't get these CSM members to push for something they think would be detrimental to the game. They are not going to conduct opinion polls and then use that as their goals.

CCP has a features and ideas section in which players can put forth their views on new or changing features... and it looks like CCP reads those posts. In some case I think they have actually gotten some ideas from them... and perhaps implemented them. That is not representation.

The CSM works with CCP to make the game better. They are there to improve/protect the game... not represent you.
