Why would you want to increase the number of females in game? I mean seriously, if all the women are wasting their time on internet spaceships like we do then who the f**k is in the kitchen cooking dinner?????

To be fair, the last person in EVE that I asked for directions, directed me into the loving arms of the Amamake gatecamp.

So it's a bit of a lesson learned on my part to figure out my own directions. And to check dotlan.

They crave attention, willing to do anything to get it and you can't do much else but despise them for what they are: complete sell-outs. They simply make a big deal about being women, while in my opinion, gender shouldn't matter in an MMO.

Because no woman ever spoke out after men say there are no women in EVE to say "hey I'm a woman, we exist and are real" and then got accused of just wanting attention, right?

Absolutely, gender shouldn't matter in an MMO. Unfortunately, when women are a minority and speaking out to correct the assumption that there are no women around means that you get labelled as "just wanting attention" and made a target for bullying and **** "jokes" it does matter. Especially when you can't hide your gender on comms.

This.

When you operate under the bullshit and false assumption that you have no privilege over women, and that it is an equal playing field, of course it looks like attention seeking.

So they shout down anyone trying to being up the lack of equality as attention seeking. Further dismissing, shouting down, and exacerbating the problem they claim doesn't exist.

Same song, same dance of misogynist and sexist going on about how good minorities have it while having no clue about what they speak.

Obviously the problem here is that you're not a real man

This is actually an interesting example. Your intentions were clearly good--TZ is an important consideration for an international MMO. What we have here is just two perspectives with no overlap.

She was apparently unaware that your real question was what time zone she was in, and assumed that you were asking where she lived for other reasons--because women are depressingly likely to get that question for that reason when online. That's why she lashed out. If you ask the question you actually meant to ask, "what time zone are you in, so we know if you'll be on with enough of our existing membership," then there would have been no problem. That's not to say that this was your fault, just that you asked a question that any number of men have had no trouble responding to, and whoops! turns out that the question sounds totally different to a woman who's been harassed in games before.

That's an awareness issue. Just like most men simply don't consider that parking lots and garages are tense and dangerous places for women, or don't register that the look on a woman's face when you get in the elevator with them is one of terror at being raped, because that happens too, because it's just not our experience of things. Once you're aware of these things, it becomes much easier not to say or do something that gets misinterpreted the way your question was.

Of course. Real men hull tank. I've long since gotten used to such sissy things as shields and armor.

You must realize by now that this isn't funny, and nor is it anything we can even care enough to be offended at anymore.
So now I'm just left wondering why you even bothered.

Your solution is that 98% of the community should step on egg shells for the other 2%? Doesn't sound very efficient.

No kidding!

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fluoride_toxicity

Just read through that, that stuff has some messed up side effects. I mean, sure, 60 million people in India alone have flouride poisoning, but at least tooth decay has been dealt with. Roll

And the, what do they call it, Alum? That white-ish crystal crap they use to purify water? That stuff is n.a.s.t.y.

Maybe said woman should have been aware that asking where she´s located is not necessarily a preparation for harassment, and refrain from nasty insults in the first place.

That problem has nothing to do with any intentional water fluoridation effort and everything to do with contamination from dissolved granite in groundwater.
This causes levels that are far higher than is used in actual public water fluoridation.
Everything is toxic in high amounts, including stuff that is beneficial in lower amounts. Drinking too much water will kill you. Does that mean water is dangerous?

Not that this has remotely anything to do with the thread, but I still felt I needed to address it.

I think only slightly gay men cyber in eve - if you didnt know that 96% of eve were men, you probably did subconsciously and i will just let you think about that.

I know a few women in eve, but now that i think about it i probably do know 50 males to one or two females.

How to attract more? You cant, its the curse of the internet and the nature of the spaceship beast, girls just dont like huge metal ships in a vacuum it seems.

I'd mostly agree with that. The onus is on the person who lowered the level of discourse. And such an overreaction would be unwelcome in my company, were I making the decision.

A knee jerk reaction is always an emotional reaction. And an emotional reaction is by definition not a logical or intellectual one.

Hey remember when goons were killing ice miners all over the place and every single male miner just said "Well played, good sirs, well played" and maybe raised a single eyebrow for a second in acknowledgement of the brief inconvenience?

But wow it sure was an eye opener to see how many women were mining ice in gallente space there were.

So that too is because of the goons?

The goons stated goal in EVE is to stop other players (At least 96% of whom are of course men) from having fun.

Obviously, goons are all women.
