Can we turn off the new jump animation?

x2 accounts canceled.... I cant play anymore for the first time in 6 years

If EvE doesn't want my money due to the fact that like others I have motion sickness then more power too them....

I am not asking for it to be removed just give us the OPTION of turning it off......
I also find it really surprising that not a single internal Dev gets motion sick......

Being new to this game and coming from more mainstream MMOs let me say I had the entirely wrong idea when I glanced over this title.

Just doing my part to keep the thread alive. It's a real shame that even with the valid criticism provided on Singularity this animation was still introduced without an off option. Personally the only thing I think that really works for it are the neat effects on the gate itself. If CCP had just stopped there and still had the load bar I think all parties would be satisfied.

I'm not in the motion sickness camp, but the animation itself is cumbersome and awkward and those two things are multiplied by each jump. I don't even sit in front of the monitor for anything over 5 jumps as it's just too tiresome to watch. Here's what I've noticed sticks out the most.

The warp in for the long tube or tunnel like gates in Minmatar and Gallente space. When we warp to these gates I assume it is to the entry point of the gate correct? Why then does the camera rotate 180 degrees to the back of the gate? That right there is incredibly jarring.

Second the first person view. Suddenly our ship is gone. Ugh! why? The ships are why we play this game in first place. Then the tunnel animation. Have you really watched this thing (those of us who can)? I get absolutely no sense of forward motion from watching this. Instead I get a sense that I am looking and moving down something which of course conflicts with the obvious fact that I am looking forward.

An option to turn it off would be great, but if that can't be implemented a reworking is definitely in order. One which includes not removing the ship from view and not removing camera control. Here's the real kicker though. If the desire was to improve the immersion when jumping then the entire jump process from warping to the gate to exiting from the gate should be overhauled. Ships should warp in (or approach) the actual gate entrance not vanishing at some arbitrary distance from the gate. Then a simple but effective transition should play. Then exit at the actual gate exit of the arrival gate factoring for collision with whatever ships were in the exit area. When gates have heavy traffic the ships should all be properly aligned and not oriented in a mixed up assortment of directions. Just my two isk.

I'm curious to see what the fix is for this.

If you are truely cancelling your account because of a graphical addition that you don't care for, lol.

If it makes you sick, you may need to see a doctor and get a prescription, because it should cause no more motion sickness than being a passenger in a car is. There isn't even any physical force there. How do you play the rest of eve, do you have a bucket next to you every time you enter warp or accidentally move your mouse too fast when spinning your ship? HTFU.

If you feel the need to be an arrogant jackass when replying to those whom the animation affects...maybe posting on the forums is not the best thing for you.

Why don't you try actually reading many of the former posts and see WHY it is affecting people.

Are you a M.D.? If not, your opinion is just that.

That this passed through QA is showing that content isn't properly vetted before release. Strobing lights (what folks experience now upon leaving dock) and this gate animation clearly shows the art department is pushing effects that have no business in games.

Developing games in a simulator isn't the same as developing a game for an audience with 10000001 health problems.

Each one of them are paying for the development, too.

I had been partly struggling to list all of the reasons this differs from the in-system warping animations, yet feeling that I was lacking something. I think this was the final piece of the puzzle.

In-system warping still maintains the tactical overlay, should you be using one. You can also rotate the camera and view any celestials for which you have brackets specified. All of these serve to make the distinction that you are watching a ship move through space, as opposed to being thrust through space itself.

With inter-system jumping, you lose control of the camera and your ship vanishes. First the camera independently rotates to one end or other of the jump gate while zooming in, regardless of your current camera zoom settings. When the jump animation begins, it is not consistent. Sometimes you appear to be flung through the gate, while at other times it appears that you back up from the gate briefly before being thrust through it. Still other times there is a momentary reappearance of the gate after the first one or two animations are run.

The cloudy warp tunnel animation is also not smooth, assuredly due in part -- though not entirely -- to the transition to the next system. System performance most likely also contributes to the lack of a smooth flowing visual. You may not zoom in or out, or rotate the camera. Several times of late, I have also noticed that the camera is showing the jumping animation to one side, instead of head-on.

I think the biggest problem people are having with this, and it is entirely likely the problem that I also have with the animation is the sudden shift into first-person perspective. In third-person you have a point of reference, and even though many things are similar, you can clearly see that you are watching -something else- moving; you are not being told that -you- are moving.

Two changes that I personally would like to see, not that I'm anyone to make such a call: first, change the current animation to a third-person perspective, leave the tactical overlay in place, do not automatically zoom the camera and in fact leave control of the camera in the hands of the player. Camera control will accomplish nothing except to allow the player to maintain the impression of watching something else in motion; an important step in helping to prevent motion sickness.

Second, provide a fade-out, fade-in option for those who do not like the animation. You are playing two pieces of an animation, it should not be difficult to change each piece. You could make it dancing clowns if you wanted, as all you need to do is trigger each animation to play at the appropriate time. While jumping into the system, the display fades to black. At the transition, the display fades back to normal. This actually happens already in some heavily congested systems from time to time, though it's more a sudden change to a solid medium-grey visual until the jump is complete.

Right. Looks like the gloves are off, eh?

Let's be clear: this animation has zero to do with technological progress. It was the brainchild of some overly enthusiastic 'artist' wonk who has evidently never heard of 'usability studies' and can't distinguish kitsch from content. Likely, his job is now riding on not giving up on this bit of graphic wizardry. So players are stuck without options.

Real progress in this case would ammount to (1) listening to pre-release player feedback when it's given; (2) carrying out usability research on major new components rather than leaving them up to 'artsy' types; (3) engaging in dialogue with the player base.

Sorry to see you guys go.

Once I am in warp, the animation is OK but the camera spin that happens right before that makes me nauseous and dizzy as hell. I have only had a couple of games ever do that to me. I run high-end kit so this is not an issue with my hardware.

If you cannot provide an option to turn this off, please just remove or replace the ship spinning-around part that happens and that would probably stop it making me and other people dizzy.

I've given it some time, and am amazed to find I am now compensating by looking away during every jump. Maybe everyone is...

It's very distracting and annoying though.

Would still very much like to turn this off.

it's so out of place...every jump feels like a desperate cry from CCP that they wish their eldest child had turned out different...poor Eve.
