We appreciate your work. The animation is nice.
We'll appreciate your further work for making it optional.

CCP please say something that we at least know you're on the issue.
Because it is indeed an issue. The animation just hurts the eyes.

This may sound silly, but my 7yo nephew used to watch me play Eve, he'd just sit next to me and stare at the screen as though hypnotized by the cool environment... And now, you can probably guess what I'm about to say, its simply a sad truth, this aggressive animation sequence does not sit well with him, he can't take it more than a couple of jumps... Heck he's probably better off doing more useful things anyway hehe, but I'm trying to make you understand that making this animation mandatory is not helping the game in any way.

An interesting article about Solo PvP: http://themittani.com/features/new-eden-solo

Well, history proved that they rarely correct something that they are proud of, even if it was a mistake to do it in the first place... Not like this animation is bad, it is great in fact, but I can't stand it each XX jumps...

I made a post in this topic with my main account one week ago, who is now disabled. I didn't cancel, it is just that I didn't apply an another plex, and so time is out... I don't need multiple accounts to do only afk-hauling and trading in empire, and I don't want to do pvp again one day with this new animation, so I keep only one account for now.

CCP knows that the players will stay anyway or come back eventually. But there is a difference between gameplay modifications and this change as in this one, some players can't adapt depending of their personal situation... So I did what I can do : take note of CCP will, and reduce my activity to nearly nothing.

I still hope they do something, but the reason says they won't or not before months. If they do for my surprise, I will still be able to check with this account but until then... well, it gives me time to do others games =)

Removing obsolete signature... You just lost time to read that =)

I also find it really surprising that not a single internal Dev gets motion sick......

If you are truely cancelling your account because of a graphical addition that you don't care for, lol.

If it makes you sick, you may need to see a doctor and get a prescription, because it should cause no more motion sickness than being a passenger in a car is. There isn't even any physical force there. How do you play the rest of eve, do you have a bucket next to you every time you enter warp or accidentally move your mouse too fast when spinning your ship? HTFU.

And that's what it boils down too, arrogance.

When MoP came out one of the healing classes had an ability that literally blinded players in raids. 10001 complaints later, it was fixed within days.

It's not like it can't be done, it's if the devs w-a-n-t it to be done.

To be fair so here is a little support to ccp - you probably missed this: Dev respond

But then no more support from me here! Most want an option to close and it's not exactly what ccp want to make, based on what they have written, so maybe they have lost interest and therefore it is now a very long time since we've gotten an update.

They are probably going to look at the problem but I am afraid it is only a cosmetic change which will be made if indeed they are doing something.

I have now canceled my 3 accounts. Not because I'm angry or anything, but why would I support a game which so much bother me. As I've written quite a few times before, I just hope ccp come to their senses over time and I can return.

We ARE looking at this and considering what we can do. The back end system used by the client has changed which makes a "turn off" not a real proposition. We are looking at ways to reduce the nausea reaction some players are experiencing through other means.

It would be helpful if we got feedback about what in particular during the jump sequence is causing the most difficulty

I am sorry for those adversely affected,.

I've solved the problem and increased the content of my wallet!

Never gonna look at that crappy, vomit inducing, animation ever again!

Could Klang take the (now rotting) pizzas & the launcher out as they leave the building plz.

You got that feedback when it was on Sisi. It has been quoted on this thread with links ad nauseum. It has also been reiterated by dozens of players who didn't see it until it went live on Tranquility.

Edit: Here's a good summary. Again.

Mata Hotaki summarized much of what has been said in his post (#587). Here's a quote:

Mata Hotaki wrote:

1. Camera control is taken over by the client.
2. The camera view executes a nausea-inducing arc-and-abrupt-stop movement (main culprit in motion sickness feeling)
3. The "tunnel" animation and the abrupt stop afterwards add to the nauseous feeling
4. These awful effects make both the CPU and GPU run measurably hotter (4-5 degrees, compared to similar activity in Retribution).
5. ...EVE was one of the games that did not give me motion sickness until this last patch.
6. If you like the new animation, good for you. Nobody's trying to take it away from you. Just try to convince me how can choice in this matter be a bad thing.

I would like to add my voice to the legions of people who would like this crap turned off. In a game where lag is still the primary issue (yes i know you have renamed it tidi) you would think the developers would have a clue. Obviously you still do not. Stop putting in things that cause lag issues. Can you imagine what its like going thru gates right now with large fleets?

Speaking of large fleets.... honestly, we could use a hand in this thread precisely from you guys. There are lots of you. If you'd just drop by here once in a while and +1 on the days you find the animation particularly painful, we might eventually see some action.

Too few active voices (like mine!) weaken the impact. Which is why I'm gona shut up for a bit.

Thanks.

P.S. I've noticed that the Tranquility numbers since the expansion support the view that people are playing slightly less. See esp. the 'past month' graph. Of course, the causes are anybody's guess. And correlation does not imply causation. Still, you get zero points for guessing what I think one of the major factors might be.

Please devs, this and the constant scanner animations should be options. Just bumping to say I'm still here and I'm still annoyed and will be as long as these two features are forced on me.

Here we go again.

We ARE looking at this.
We are in the process of tweaking camera and FOV changes occurring in jump tunnel, the pre and post tunnel camera work as well.

no eta yet, as this is a slow process - especially with summer upon us and various people going on holidays.

Thanks for the info update. I've decided I need an off option since I do not want to see an animation here without it is a still image with perhaps a "Jumping" on, or something like pre patch.

But great ccp makes a sound again here! Blink Hopefully there will be an off option one day, just as we got on the cam shake. If this comes I will come terrible back to bother ccp again Blink.

My main here expires on 2/7 so I do not expect a miracle before then ... so from here shall sound a; Have fun and fly safe boys and girls! o/

Hey guys,

First off, thanks for all the comments that have been coming in regarding the new jump transition that we introduced with Odyssey. We've been keeping a keen eye on both the positive and negative feedback, and are currently looking at ways to resolve some of the issues that people are experiencing with the transition.

While we can appreciate the concerns that some people have regarding server performance, these can be cleared up very easily. The animation for the transition has absolutely zero effect on the server, or the time it takes for you to travel from system to system. In fact, the time it takes for the client to unload/load data about systems has been reduced drastically (~50%).

The only reason that this transition wasn't added in the past was due to technical limitations, and we decided to do it now due to the fact that part of the vision for EVE is to have a fully immersive experience that isn't interrupted by black screens with loading bars.

The process when jumping is as follows:

  • Player gives the command to jump while in range of a stargate.
  • Client sends notification to the server.
  • Server starts moving you, and relays this back to client.
  • Client starts animation.
  • Client unloads information about previous system.
  • Server finishes moving you to new system.
  • Your ship appears cloaked in new system
  • Server informs client of arrival in new system, and what is on grid.
  • Client loads information about new system into overview/local and begins transition end.
  • You are ready to move.

The transition effectively serves as a visual filler while all of this is going on behind the scenes, and is generated client side with no impact on the performance of the server at all. The time taken only depends on the server starting and ending the move between systems, which doesn't care about the client at all.

Simply adding the ability to "turn it off" is a cop-out, and leaves us in the position where we have a sub-optimal animation in game that some people are unhappy with and choose not to use. The jump transition, much like the warp tunnel, is here to stay as a replacement for loading bars, and therefore it has to be good for everyone, and has to function as intended.

We will stress though, that we hear your concerns and we're in the process of exploring various avenues for resolving them that include work on the camera and work on the animation itself to smooth it out and alter how it flashes and scrolls, however this is something that will take time and won't happen overnight.

Again, thanks for all the feedback, both positive and negative. It's being taken on board, and we're looking to make changes based on the things that you guys are concerned with the most, without removing the transition completely.

Thank you for this.

I know you guys must be frustrated by what you might perceive as our inability to be satisfied by your previous statements on this issue. However, you need to understand that your message to us included the fact that you were waiting to see if anyone still cared two weeks after release. So in our minds, unless we're shouting about this, you're just going to blow it off.

If the volume of dissent is upsetting you, I can suggest a solution that might be worth your time. Provide me with exactly the kind of update you did above. You could even consider formalizing the process of providing updates to your customers on the status of fixing parts of the game we perceive as broken. Even if it's just "No changes planned."

Also, please remember that last year's famous Hilmar quote about "not listening to what [we] say but instead waiting to see what we do" is still very much on my mind. I believe that CCP's corporate culture of handling player feedback has improved since then. That is why I am here, bothering to reiterate how important this issue is to me, instead of "unsubbing" to make my point. All I ask in return is professionalism in the form of clearly stated updates.

Compare your reply above with the first response we got from CCP in this thread. Post #3.

THAT is a good example of what does NOT work. Also, imagine your post WITHOUT the pretext of "Here we go again." (which does sound a bit snarky). You see what I mean?

If I were you guys I would work on a "policies and procedure" for how to keep your customers updated on this kind of issue that is at least perceived as transparent and doesn't fan the flames with vagaries and defensiveness.

EDIT: It's like you were reading my mind Sisyphus, but completed your post a few minutes before I finished mine. Thank you 1000x for an even more detailed response! <3
