Walking in station ideas

First off, has there been any news on WIS? I can't really find anything new.

Anyways, I have a few ideas for the WIS. Saying if WIS ever gets anything added to is, I would like the following.

1. I would like for the big TV screen to show some "useful" stuff based on the real world and in game. (FaceBook, emails, stock market, news, weather, etc.) (In game: countdown on blueprint jobs and planet stuff. Some % on how full my PI spaceports are. etc.)

2. Obviously I would like to walk around the station and not just my room/jail cell.

3. I would like to see a market space hud in my room.

4. I would love to see the NPC offices.

5. I would love it even more if I could hear the NPC talk.

6. I would like a NPC market space where I can meet other players. (So not in the NPC offices)

7. I would like to have a droid/whatever servant/slave. Not a droid like swtor, but a male, female, or it robot that looks like a human (or not if don't want it to). (As capsulers, we should have one with all the money we have)

8. A black market. (I would like for some use to come out of having useless drugs that just sits there)

9. I would like for that eve online board game that was on PlayStation home to come to this game.

If they keep adding things to the WIS, does anyone agree they need to add some of this?

I'm beginning to think you're some kind of a horrible troll dressed up as a person pretending to try and suggest things.

1. You have an ingame browser if you want real-world stuff. Stop being lazy and use it. Facebook has proliferated to every corner of the earth, like some kind of Black Plague v2.0, it's not necessary to tie it into the ingame world as well. Use your ingame browser if you're that addicted. Your PI spaceports take all of five seconds per planet to check under the current setting. One of the screens even takes you directly to your PI management.

2. So would several others, but this takes dev time that isn't going to happen this year. The horse is dead, stop flogging it.

3. I'm pretty sure there's a device on the table that allows you to click a pop-up and open the market window. If that fails, press Alt-R. What exactly do you want from a market HUD that the actual window won't do 100x better?

4. See #2.

5. Let's learn to walk before we run. Or if you prefer, let's put the horse in front of the cart rather than the other way 'round. Additionally, see #2.

6. See #2.

7. I- ...I don't... I'm an interceptor pilot and what is this? I'm afraid to even ask why you want this.

8. The "black market" idea has been suggested as a possible use for player-owned storefronts under Incarna, but it's silly to think that drugs just "sit there". Smuggling as a profession could use a little work but otherwise there is indeed a limited trade of high-grade illegal boosters even in highsec.

9. Why do you want this?

After what happened with Incarna I can't help but feel a huge majority of the EVE playerbase are more interested in space ships than space barbies.

I expect it's not really a majority, it's just that they're more vocal and certainly more harsh. I'd put the numbers closer to being equal for/against with a group in the middle that doesn't care at all. Please refer to one of the countless many "It wasn't WiS that made Incarna a PR disaster, it was all the other stuff too" threads.

Sounds like you're more of a troll. Just because you don't like, you didn't come up with the idea of, or because just because. Doesn't mean my suggestions are any less than anyone elses. (The chances of them coming true is another story)

Oh brother, are we resorting to calling eachother trolls now? It's like "forum first line of defense". Whatever...

Anyways, I found the OP's suggestions interesting and, heh, non trolling. I've been silently hoping for a long long time since Incarna that CCP will breathe new life into the station features. Not EVERY player is more interested in being in a spaceship all the time than being a "space barbie" as it was put. Ever since Incarna was released, I looked at it as another way to immerse myself into the game. IMMERSION. When in the hell did people ever get enough of this in a game and say, "No more!" And when was immersion ever bad for business anywa.... you know what, nevermind. Some smart ass here will link some news clip about some idiot in real life going too far.

I don't fully understand why Incarna supposedly "flopped". I've enjoyed it since release but it has been growing stale. It hasn't been expanded, touched upon. I think the another poster's description of being in a "jail cell" is pretty accurate in how it begins to feel. Lately I've seen more and more threads of people calling EVE Online their second home. Really think about that for a moment. Don't you think people like that want a more immersive experience as well? It's my hope that CCP hasn't really given up on the Incarna experience yet. I want to enter a living breathing world that goes beyond just my experiences in a space ship (which is considerably less immersive for me anyways. Camera drones.... who came up with that @#$%?)

I don't wish to 'flog the dead horse' myself, but I know there are other people out there who feel the same way, and I hope in some way that is expressed to CCP. Bullshit in games these days is all about marketing and making choices with the least risk. Incarna was a risk, I believe percieved to be worthwhile to CCP with the introduction of AUR. People would probably give a damn about what they were wearing or what's available to their avatars if they were actually putting it to any use, socializing in a station environment with their friends and engaging in other activities, immersing themselves. If CCP does percieve Incarna as a failure, I hope it doesn't scare them away from future innovation in any way.

Bah, @#$% it. The OP is spot on, and his post is just a smaller hint of the hopes and dreams of many of us out there with EVE Online have for the future. It just seems like people have nothing better to do sitting in their current iteration of captain's quarters but to throw imagination out the window and over critically analyze and critique (wrong word maybe) everyone's posts. Hell, I'll probably get the same for this post. Bring it on. Your welcome to find out that I don't give 2 *****. Respect Graig Bennett2th, your no troll (in this post). I really want to think of EVE Online as my second home as well...

Thanks for agreeing with me. I'm actually kinda PO they spent more time in making a light show for when you leave the station then doing something in WIS.

They aren't touching WiS at all this year. The CEO of CCP himself said that. No WiS for summer and no WiS for winter. The soonest you can expect to see any development at all on WiS is after WoD has been released. The Incarna expansion generated such enormous negative backlash amongst players and such negative publicity in the gaming press that CCP isn't keen on touching anything to do with WiS for a long time.

I have a better idea, how about remove WiS from the client so people can free some HDD space?

Maybe you should remove that 20GB of goat fetish videos if you're short on HDD space. Otherwise, if the problem is that you're playing on a potato from 1998 with only 60 GB, perhaps you should upgrade to something more modern.

Companies say one thing, then do another all the time. I just hope CCP knows some people like WIS, and some update on it is better than none.

You aren't listening. Or reading. Or whatever. Basically, you're not paying attention.

"Companies say one thing... '

Yes they do. It happens all the time and you're completely right on that aspect. However, the last time CCP touched Incarna, the backlash and negative results were so bad that it nearly cost them the whole company. Let me say that one more time.

The last time CCP touched Incarna, it nearly cost them the whole company.

It wasn't specifically the Walking in Stations that nearly ruined CCP. It was the completely unfinished state of it. It was the microtransactions. It was $70 monocles. It was "Greed is Good". The whole thing, all of that and more, added up to create a disaster so bad that any single part of the expansion being mentioned now conjures up nightmarish demons. Go look into a mirror and say "Incarna" three times fast and tell me if anything appears.

These CCP people have mortgages to pay. They have food to buy and families to care for. They're not going to touch WiS again, even with a 10-foot-pole held by someone else, until DUST has become more profitable and World of Darkness has been released. Then and only then, when they've got the technology for WiS developed and optimized (which is what World of Darkness is doing for them) and they've got a wider playerbase providing them a more diversified income stream, will they likely dare to touch WiS again.

Right now, EVE is effectively CCP's sole income. When they start to work on WiS again (which may be a while, since Soundwave feels it's a different game entirely) they're going to **** off a lot of people who hate everything CCP does (we call them "bittervets" and don't know why they still play) and CCP's going to need the revenue from DUST and World of Darkness if they want to mitigate the potential effects of those people leaving the game in an unjustified rage.

I agree, Walking in Stations should be iterated upon and shouldn't be left to languish in its current unfinished and effectively-a-joke state. I strongly disagree with CCP Soundwave about it being "a different game than EVE". However, given what happened last time, it's definitely a terrible idea to touch it until they've got some insurance in the form of other games to keep money coming in if things go the way it seems they will.

1. I can't listen to text. See a doctor if you can. 2 I did read and understand what you wrote down.
I don't think it brought them to their knees because they never seen a serious drop in players online. (If you login by the game window, look at the amount. It's normally around 20k) Anyways, everyone had problems with the $70 monocles. But, that isn't the WIS. You may say it's apart, but in reality it's the new store.
Sure people were PO when it came to the WIS because it's halfway done. But now people are super PO that there is no update (dev blog or real update) on the WIS.
So anyways, people aren't that PO at WIS. They are leaving/PO because of the crappy nexus store.

As far as WOD. First off, thanks for letting me know about WOD.I am 50/50 if WOD will affect EVE Online. I am still researching WOD, but I can't find where CCP will link EVE to WOD. Like I know it's in the same universe, but that's it. They might link the chat, but that's not enough.
However, lets talk about how WOD could affect EVE. WOD could mess with WIS if the social area is station like. Or if they take some of the graphics from WOD, and bring it to WIS. (I could see this happening) Or lets say WOD is directly linked to EVE. If it it's then I can't see a way it wouldn't mess with WIS.
Now could they hold off WIS for WOD? Of course. Should they develop the 2 side by side (since many of the graphics in WOD can be brought in WIS)? Yes

BTW WOD kinda looks like the Matrix Online MMO.

I don't know where you read they're in the same universe... but well, they aren't. CCP is slating WoD as a Vampire simulator and it's based on an already existent paper RPG. Hello no to Vampires in EVE universe (well, the supernatural kind anyway... we have Blood Raiders already right :P?).

Anyway, on topic, most of your suggestions are the kind of things that were features CCP wanted for WiS. But well that all fell apart. Look up "Team Avatar" if you want to know what's happening with the tiny team left working on Incarna related things, the most likely thing to come out of it first is a new EVA mechanic tailored towards exploration/special salvaging.

Well the EVE Online uni is called New Eden. In this video it says "cast of of Eden" around 1 min. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OEi7nQbNDog it says
That means they are in New Eden (the EVE Online universe).

It says "Cast out of Eden, their souls discarded, their flesh made immortal". They're not referring to New Eden. They're referring to the biblical Garden of Eden. World of Darkness has its own universe and its own lore and is not linked to Eve Online.

More than that, though.. why are we debating about vampire lore on a spaceship forum?

Because I thought it was possible it could link up. But that sucks. I was getting happy there for a second when I thought there might be a chance we may have to fight off vampires in stations.
