The last time CCP touched Incarna, it nearly cost them the whole company.

It wasn't specifically the Walking in Stations that nearly ruined CCP. It was the completely unfinished state of it. It was the microtransactions. It was $70 monocles. It was "Greed is Good". The whole thing, all of that and more, added up to create a disaster so bad that any single part of the expansion being mentioned now conjures up nightmarish demons. Go look into a mirror and say "Incarna" three times fast and tell me if anything appears.

These CCP people have mortgages to pay. They have food to buy and families to care for. They're not going to touch WiS again, even with a 10-foot-pole held by someone else, until DUST has become more profitable and World of Darkness has been released. Then and only then, when they've got the technology for WiS developed and optimized (which is what World of Darkness is doing for them) and they've got a wider playerbase providing them a more diversified income stream, will they likely dare to touch WiS again.

Right now, EVE is effectively CCP's sole income. When they start to work on WiS again (which may be a while, since Soundwave feels it's a different game entirely) they're going to **** off a lot of people who hate everything CCP does (we call them "bittervets" and don't know why they still play) and CCP's going to need the revenue from DUST and World of Darkness if they want to mitigate the potential effects of those people leaving the game in an unjustified rage.

I agree, Walking in Stations should be iterated upon and shouldn't be left to languish in its current unfinished and effectively-a-joke state. I strongly disagree with CCP Soundwave about it being "a different game than EVE". However, given what happened last time, it's definitely a terrible idea to touch it until they've got some insurance in the form of other games to keep money coming in if things go the way it seems they will.

This is crappy world us EVE players live in with regards to CCP. I believe your spot on in how CCP undoubtedly perceives their experience with Incarna. Bittervets? Unjustified rage? Could not agree with you more. By no means is WiS a different game than EVE. It's always been my opinion that it was an extension of it, an opportunity to open more doors that would create immersion in the EVE universe, and allow players to step out of their ships and go about different tasks on foot, all for the purpose of sucking the player in and helping them believe and feel that this is a second life. God, I want(ed) that SO BAD. We make these characters, and spend YEARS training them and investing in them, they become a part of us in a way that no other MMO out there can compare to. Keeping that in mind, IMMERSION is in my opinion one of the greatest missing links in this game, and Incarna was a direct means of addressing that, even if it was just a single stepping stone.

I made a post earlier today about me and my wife considering leaving the game after over 7 years invested. I look back at how much (or how little) has changed, versus what I believe can change in the next 7 years and it just doesn't feel justified to keep playing. Patches that change one or two features in the game and offer a little balancing are called expansions, and then I end up feeling like with each one, we're celebrating mediocrity. Incarna was the only expansion that changed that for me, it was a HUGE step which I believe was largely successful in ways (immersion) and a disaster in others (introduction of AUR). Due to this "Unjustified rage", the one expansion that really mattered is history, an afterthought, a dark spec in history in the minds of CCP. Screw that.

I just can't justify sticking around anymore. I've squandered my years in this game, clinging to hopes and dreams of what EVE can eventually become. Throughout the years, especially after Incarna, I told my wife that this game could seriously go places and change the way that we look at games like this. Games where we can immerse ourselves in a universe, invest our time into a second life and reap great enjoyment from it. I WILL NOT lie, I'm aggrieved by the experience of it all over the years. I hope CCP wakes up, takes risk, and does once again what they did in the first place those years ago, INNOVATE! But after 7 years, I can't afford to hold my breath anymore. Leaving EVE is gonna be like breaking up with a girlfriend for me, whereas my wife will likely welcome the opportunity to experience something new with subscription savings.

WAKE UP CPP, there are people out there that love you. Even if it's been like watching your loved one grow fatt and get crows feet and excessive wrinkles, you can still make a difference!
