....what?

Valve owns Steam, Steam is available on Linux, Mac and Windows. Microsoft have nothing to do with Steam (except for making Gabe Newell rage with Windows 8)

Oh my bad, i thought it was a microsoft thing.

Did you guys ever fix the patching issues, I used Steam when I started, but got annoyed with (not sure if it was CCP or Valve) patches frequently breaking the steam-auto-updated version.

I admit, I skimmed.

But is there any chance of making EVE free on Steam.

Really would like to move EVE under the Steam umbrella. But I'm not going to spend $20 just to do it

*Yes, I know there's the 'Demo'. But it's unclear if that's setup differently...say for Play-time Tracking. Plus, I just don't like seeing 'Demo' in my game library.

Really do like the suggestion that "/My Documents/EVE/"-folder be backed up to the Steam Cloud. Maybe even full Steam integration where the Screenshots are uploaded to Steam's screenshot storage. - rember I haven't used EVE one Steam...so I don't know if it all ready does that.

Yes, these issues should be fixed (but please let us know if something is still broken!)

My first account/character (Atacdad) was purchased and set up under Steam in Sept. 2008. Steam was quickly left behind and I prefer the direct download/install. I would see Steam as having an advantage (and I would use it) if I can purchase game time and plex via Steam and avoid the international currency charges I have to pay now because the current transactions originate overseas. I don't believe this affects what CCP makes in income, but it saves me a few dollars per transaction.

As a pretty regular Steam user (sheesh since 2003) I think that this is a nice thing to have the integration finally "real."

What I'd like to see in the future (in no particular order):
* Steam in-game overlay functions (screenshots, video, etc) - MUST NOT conflict with other frequently used overlay programs (e.g. TeamSpeak3, Mumble, etc)
* Community Hub and Workshop tie-ins (think Alliance and Corp logo submission processes, ship skin submission processes, Lore submission processes, etc)
* Ability to manage/authenticate more than one EVE account (since this wouldn't be too terribly helpful if the EVE Account authentication was tied to a single Steam Account)
* Possible Steam Sale incentives related to Power of Two, PLEX, Aurum, etc.
* Dust Account tie-ins as well (since it's possible to login to Steam from PS3)
** Buddy Invites via Steam account activation would be huge as well as it's currently missed (as has been mentioned)
* Possibility to leverage the Steam Groups function for alliance/corp communications/forums/announcements/events with hooks into the EVE API for Corp/Alliance calendars etc

I'm right behind you

I'm absolutely stoked by this, as Steam is my preferred gaming platform. I'll wait (im)patiently for the ability to merge my current account with Steam, since that's where I had purchased it in the first place.

Also, this is probably a small thing, but I cannot thank you guys enough for removing the expansion title from the game on Steam; it was always annoying to fire up EVE on Steam and have it say "EVE Online: Inferno" when it was very not...

Tradition defines and shapes a person, but should be evaluated frequently; far too often does Tradition no longer help, but hobble a person and stunt their growth. Especially a Capsuleer.

Nice work!

I know it will be of interest to someone inside CCP, so here's a bit of market data for you: I have a Steam account and "a number of" EVE accounts (more than 1). I would be interested in an account amalgamation which allows me to combine any of my accounts into one other account, such as say a few of my EVE accounts into a Steam account. Amalgamating my accounts into a Steam login would be especially attractive if there was a way select a group of characters to open EVE clients for, such as my mining fleet versus my mission running fleet versus my market operations fleet.

I have bought stuff on Steam (a bunch of Mac OS X games, including Portal and Portal 2) and have bought stuff on the Apple App Store too (including things like OmniFocus which are big ticket items in the iOS App Store). That is to say: I spend money through these stores, though I have not yet bought PLEX to sell for ISK.

I play almost exclusively on OS X (though there is that piano-black Medion laptop I bought because I wanted to run more characters at once).

Hope that helps someone.

I have two accounts I regularly use and would love to be able to launch Eve from Steam and be able to one-click sign in to either account, without providing any further passwords.

Pushing towards further integration with steam, plus multiple account support would be excellent.

Great work guys, looking forward to what will come out of this partnership next.

As much as this is a great step forward, implementation limited to people who buy the game today seems a bit.. disappointing. I noticed when the subscription offers were added to the database and was chomping at the bit to have Steam handle the billing.

I'm fully aware I'm being impatient, but damn it... Been around (with two accounts off and on) since 2005 and I'd love to be able to test additional Steam integration. What kind of "performance" tests are being done anyway? The number of people who use Steam to manage subscriptions and buy PLEX, or is it just a check on the performance of steam-based logins?

With EvE being a bit long in the tooth (which isn't necessarily a bad thing, it just means it's a great game), I'm a bit concerned that if the performance being measured is in subscription increases this may not continue.

ThisAttention

I'd like to be able to install EVE via steam like all my other games when I move to other computers.

I'd REALLY like it if steam would background patch EVE for me like other steam games Shocked

This and...

It'd be fantastic if my game settings (overview, layout, etc) were saved on the steam cloud so reinstalls would be a LOT less hassle, plus access from different computers, etc, would all tie up.

Squeaks

Ohh, so this! It's always a pain to have to reconfigure my overview every time I install EVE (or have to re-install, for various reasons). I know we can back it up via xml, but it's not a complete backup, and I occasionally forget. I also love the idea of potentially being able to trade Steam items for PLEX.

Aside from that, I'm glad you're finally integrating the two. I've been playing EVE through Steam since I started playing.

Please make a free option for EVE on Steam so existing customers can use it without having to go for the demo (this is what I am doing at the moment).

Is there any possibility of creating a way for us to link our existing EVE Online and Steam accounts or ID's? I have lots of Steam games already and haven't wished for a while that I could play EVE through Steam so I could track my gameplay and have my friends see me playing EVE.

I bought my EVE key on steam a couple of years ago but I don't really care for using my steam ID to login to EVE.

What I DO like about this is that I would gladly drop Paypal so I can purchase game time through steam, although I see that currently you only have the recurring payment option. I would only use it if I could do an one-time payment. ( Although I would prefer to pay with bank transfer directly through account management )

Also, please don't do steam achievements, I don't like achievements. What would they be anyway? Finish 1000 lvl 4 missions, Kill 10 000 rats in belts, succesfully awox 10 corps, scam 50 people, Mine till you drop ( 6 hours straight ) ...

Yeah, that was quite annoying, to say the least! Among other little things that were broken for some time is the Steam Overlay: according to our developers it will be fixed in the Odyssey release.

I've actually had a mention of world domination in an earlier draft of the blog; glad to see people can still read it between the lines Big smile

Steam workshop is where people take the work of other people and upload it again as their own.

If I could play certain games without Steam, I would.

Good luck however with your plans for total annihil.....sorry world domination.

Its time to stand up against the bad empire based CEO telling falsehoods about what new characters can accomplish and pushing them towards an in game experience of drudgery and loneliness keeping them in the shadow of ignorance for at nest their own profit at worse apathy towards all the experiences that Eve has to offer.
