I really like this idea, I will bring it up with the appropriate team.

So your colleagues didn't think about something like that? Bad news.

When I first saw the login screen, I thought that these people do have good taste. Great design, not worse and perhaps better than in the Blizzard games. The first impression is very important. How can you not understand such simple things?

What? I switched to starting directly with the exefile BECAUSE char switching with the new launcher is a PITA.

If the new launcher supported storing and switching between multiple logins synchronously, I could see it being useful, but I'd hardly call that issues being 'smoothed out'. Plus, that functionality would pretty much defeat the purpose of the SSO mechanism.

So tell me, when would be the right "time to panic"? When tomorrow suddenly you won't be able to load evefile.exe and launcher will remain same?

Yes.

Was is right time to "panic" when CCP silently removed Jukebox once and for all, because "it consumed too many developer resources"?

No.

Sarmatiko wrote:
Maybe now it's right time to panic, looking at CCP Navigator's post where he expresses dislike to calculator\notepad existence or should we wait while those tools will be gone?

Probably not, considering those things are easily replaced by tools OOG. Of course, you can voice your displeasure at the idea of removing them, but it's not the end of the world if they are removed.

I guess it's a good thing CCP Navigator is the guy in charge of the community team and doesn't do anything relating to the client then!

Because really, this smacks of "I hate change". It's just a launcher, dambit. Its function is to launch the game, the end. If it was a plain text console, you'd still be complaining about "nostalgia".

Begging to differ... It's not just a launcher, dambit. In addition to launching the game, it patches the game, displays ads, displays videos (videos? - yes videos), processes sign ons, links to several CCP services, devblogs and patchnotes.

The sad fact is that this "mere launcher" cannot launch the game until it contacts some web servers and populates itself with a load of content that is extraneous to simple, basic function of launching the game.

I hope that the CSM will thoughtfully consider the risk of CCP overloading this new front end with too many bells and whistles, and creating a potential single point of failure that could block access to the game, (as we have already have seen is a real possibility).

To guard against this possibility, I would hope that the alternative - and truly simple - method of launching the game (i.e. ExeFile.exe) remains as it is for the long term - with the sign on functionality intact.

No argument from me on this - I'd actually forgotten that we could do this until this event occurred, and now I quite like it.

Don't forget to mention it to Soundwave. He's the main person (we see anyway) that is advocating the war on loading screens.

How many times do we need to repeat history to learn from it?

Feedback and warnings ignored as "I hate change": Unified Inventory. By both CSM and CCP (A big miss for CSM7 btw)

Deleting functionality and not understanding sentimental value: Ship-spinning.

Being rude as a way of communicating to playerbase: Well many examples but I'll pick the Mittani for this one. Please don't make me hand you a wizard hat.

Actually, what you have just presented are excellent examples of classic over reaction. Smile

Yes, it's definitely minor. Roll

Yes, incredibly minor, yet still worthy of some attention.

I am half tempted to go and dig up the extremely similar sounding spaz-outs that were had when the launcher was first introduced. I do recall a lot of people being furiously against it.

Let's not forget that the first release of the launcher was not exactly a smooth and transparent operation, either. You might recall major release-day problems, quick fixes by the CCP team/scrum in charge of it being pushed, and lots of angry subscribers.

The team in charge of the Launcher needs some more oversight, I think. They're now 0 for 2 when it comes to executing a smooth major release, and I feel that they're pushing bad code out the door not because they want to, but in accordance with the spirit of scrum, because they have to.

Yeah, and they sure look stupid now, right?

If you say so. Honestly I don't entirely disagree, but my point is more that they represent massive miscalculations in both initial planning and handling the response.

My "personal agenda" in this consists in having to batter my arse to load my accounts, a task that used to be easy.

The log in screen going amiss is not "my agenda", like it'd not be my agenda if I saw Ferrari suddenly stripping their brand off the plate and I told them how that's very dumb.
