gravity would kick in and the universe of EVE would implode into a black hole, which makes all of your stuff lose all of its electrons and turn to plasma

Yay return all your stuff to Plasma! Pirate

I'm going to be looking forward to seeing these nebulae on Sisi.

Can we fix the gates orientation in space so that they appear to jump in the direction of the destination system - right now every gate points the same direction.

yet another x GB Patch containing things not needed & not changing anything .... CCP should really think about laying off 75% of the graphic designers and replacing them by game game designers & programmers ...

BTW the new fonts sucks also. Instead of fixing the one single character "Zero" in the existing fonts. Graphic department proved its justification by designing a whole new font .... and causing much trouble in implementing the change of font in the UI ... well done .... NOT. (i am talking of the nice UI/Common/Formatting/ListGenericDelimiter, we see right now in corp titles)

How come Wormhole Space is not going to be altered by these changes?

Cause w-space is fricken far away from k-space..?
Had you ever taken the datadump and plotted the positions of the stars into a 3D room?
Well, I did.. and w-space was far far far away..

So, why should it be affected by those changes?

There's no technical reasons why they can't implement my suggestion.

The reason why they can't do the constellation granularity now is of economic and prioritisational nature.
It took them nearly a year from talking about some company doing the high res rendering of the raw data until they are finally usable by us on TQ.. for 68 cube maps.
Multiply that by a factor of 5+ and you get it for each constellation.. so, about 4-5 years ;-)

Someone further up said something about layers of backgrounds, with the big stuff being sector bound (not region bound, so a streched region could have several backdrops and a compact region only one) and then some local/regional stuff thrown in by good measure (read: transparent overlays of smaller things that scale when you move from const to const).
I think that this would be possible and should be looked at.

It would be cool, absolutely, their constant alignment along a principal axis is a legacy issue. If we rotate them, we could possibly screw up some people's warp to zero bookmarks, which would cause rage, as if millions of voices suddenly cried out in terror, so it would require some investigation upfront.

This may have been mentioned but especially from a nullsec dwellers perspective, will this cause more lag in larger engagements and can it be turned off/down in the graphics settings if your PC struggles with it?

t0ri, I appreciate you're trying to look through a lot of replies but part of what caused all the drama over Incarna was CCP's mismanagement of expectations prior to launch (i.e. us thinking we where getting something more than a single CQ). Unless you want to repeat the same mistakes again, we need an answer on this question otherwise the first fleet battle involving almost 1000 pilots that crashes the node is going to result in some serious unholy rage Shocked

+1, who gives a **** about those whiny wimps. Point those gates at targets. No please or anything. Its a order!
No excuses either.

Also, get rid of those new bg.
Instead:
Start with a black skybox, or a base set of skybox textures (btw judging from the 3 screenshots I dont like the proposed ones. Way too cluttered, way too much "bright fog/clouds", way too many random non-eve stars)
For each system, make a list of the 100-200 nearest eve systems (from the 3d F10 map).
Render those positionally correct in realtime (project their position unto the skybox) on jumpin/undock and overlay that on the skybox base texture. I.E. on undock/jumpin, load the base texture from ".stuff" asset, generate the star overlay, "flatten" that unto the base skybox texture and use this new temporary skybox texture for the given system until you jumpout/dock (and cache it if just docked).
With only 200 or so, the process should be more than fast enough to carry out while being gated or during undock timer.
It doesnt matter if they are just 1/5/9/16pixel blobs on the skybox, what matters is that they properly represent the stars/systems we deal with, instead of repeating the same old mistake of slapping a completely random and disconnected starmap on the skybox, a starmap while isnt even mildly consistent. Like you said we have 30-some random ones at the moment.

The 3d map is just another model. Use it.

Just a reminder to everyone, we are watching this thread for feedback on the Nebulae once they are on the test server.

Let us know if you have any issues and please file a bug report here: https://bugs.eveonline.com/login.asp

Distributing static data is a _SOLVED PROBLEM_, no one ever has trouble distributing static data these days. Where the **** do you think you download the client from, or the avatar images? Does that lag your fleet fights?
Head out of ass plx, downloading the client and loading forum avatars is not a realtime and latency/lag sensitive activity.
Loading something the client demands to proceed is. +differences in size. skybox textures >>> thumbs used in local.

Client does not demand constellation/system background to proceed when it has fallbacks.

So, now what? The objections you guys give are founded in ignorance.

Dark space in my EVE, I approve whole heartedly. Now all that remains is for you to make it so, that the star significantly dims when you get further away from it within a system. I'd like to feel that I'm flying inside an actual star system at great speeds and moving large distances, instead of moving within a small room with a single static lightbulb in the middle of it.

I don't think rotation of the gates would be a huge issue - hardly anyone uses warp to zero bookmarks any more, or they just bookmark the gate itself (which won't be moving). All of the other bookmarks around gates tend to be at least a few kilometers away (or dozens/hundreds) and would not be affected by the collision box being rotated.

Rotating the gates to point at their destination system would be very much +1.

Rotation the stations, OTOH, would be a much thornier issue. And there's not as clear of a consensus about which way they should point other then "not south". Do you point them at their star? Which star (in the case of binaries)? At the planet? In a random direction?

I'm glad there's going to be some coordination between the supposed characteristics of the various regions and what they actually look like

The nebulae look fantastic on Sisi. As do the new battlecruisers (even if they're untextured) - found my first 'bug' though...

I've just been onto sisi and checked these out. They are truly stunning ccp, the changes from system to system and just the sheer level or detail.

Pretty breath taking stuff.

Don't ask about Italics, just tilt your head.
