Why stop at the textures? Why not go for broke and ask for the High-Res models as well, the ones they use for the bump-mapping.

That's a Templar, an Amarr fighter used by carriers.

Hi res textures can be used in real time on modern hardware. Hi resolution models will melt your computer.

Also, they offered hi res textures, if we want them.

Make the download and use completely optional and do it. You can never have too many options.

Because now you're talking extra work.

The reason they ditched the classic client was because the double work: everything had to modelled twice; everything had to be textured twice; everything had to be shaded twice; nothing was ever reusable. Textures can be batch-resized — models can't, and changing the model means there is no overlap in assets.

…and anyway, properly implemented tesselation does what you want without that duplication.

why not bring back eve classic and premium clients?

because on my new rig i would love to see high res and on my old laptop i would still use the regular res....

Fully support this. The only thing my (now aging) 560 Ti gets excited about are Captains Quarters and gas clouds in mission space. It wants to feel needed.

I'd be down for this. Im curious to see how "big" is the big they said at the art panel today.

Fixed that for you.
Yes, i'm nitpicking.

And it's doubtfull you could have even *one* highres model on screen at 60fps,
with all the other stuff going on ...

Did they actually say this would be an optional download, or is that part speculation?

I'd be all for it if it were optional and I could easily add and remove it at will, say, from the launcher.

Yes they actually said an optional extra download that could be added or removed. The art team would love to do it. They just need player support to convince the decision makers that its worthwhile.

You have my... um... axe support

Well they said they have most textures at 4 times the size. I assume that means 4 times the height and 4 times the width. That means 16 times the number of pixels. If we assume no additional colour depth, then the texture pack would be 16 times the size of the current texture download. So if the current textures take up at a guess 2GB, then the hi res pack would be 32GB. The 2GB is obviously just a guess, honestly have no idea.
