Well they said they have most textures at 4 times the size. I assume that means 4 times the height and 4 times the width. That means 16 times the number of pixels. If we assume no additional colour depth, then the texture pack would be 16 times the size of the current texture download. So if the current textures take up at a guess 2GB, then the hi res pack would be 32GB. The 2GB is obviously just a guess, honestly have no idea.
Four times as big ... two times horizontally and two times vertically ?

I would very much like to see this.

Not only so that those of us who spent a gawdawful amount on our gaming rigs and could actually use this, but all players could benefit from the resulting increase in quality in youtube videos and the like.

A big boon to video makers. Which in turn gets EVE more and better free advertising, which in turn gets us players more people to interact with and shoot at.

Win for all.

The only end-game content in EVE Online is the crap that makes you rage quit.

It depends on what they mean by "4 times the size." If they literally mean the files will be 4x larger or that the pixel area of each texture is 4x greater, then yes it would be 2x horizontal resolution and 2x vertical resolution. But if they mean 4x resolution in each axis, then he's right that this would mean 16x the number of pixels and consequently 16x the file size.

Simply saying "4x bigger" is pretty ambiguous.

Enjoying the rain today? ;)

+1 for support. If they have it ready it should be our choice to use it or not. <3 High res textures!

Play EvE how you want to play it and do not let others dictate how you play. Evolve your playstyle to protect yourself from others! Even in "PVE", "PVP" is there, lurking in the shadows.

CCP has stated they have hi res textures for almost all assets that are 4 times the detail level compared to what is in the game now. They have said all we need to do so prove to them that we want them and we will get it.

Kind of hard to provide a citation for a live video stream. Watch the game development talk with CCP Soundwave and the art panel (from fanfest 2013, in case this is being read at a latter date)l. It is mentioned in both.

Even if your machine couldn't handle such graphics, you would have to be insane to deny other players of an optional gfx features....HELL YEA! for hi res textures! this woud have to be a unanimous yes from the community no?

I would have to check the video again to be certain, but I believe the phrase they used was 4 times the detail. Hence my assumption.

Came here looking for this exact thread to add my voice to the petition.

PLEASE CCP, release high-res textures as an optional download, and/or as a toggle in the in-game graphics options.

For those of you wondering the "specifics" of this high res art, it was noted in Jester's blog and on TMDC (links below):

You do realize this will probably be for a price. If they already have it done there would be no reason to ASK if players want it as a option. In reality they are asking "Would you be willing to pay for it?".

And yes I'm cynical when it comes to CCPs business logic.

Sure, having more graphics options is never a bad thing.
