I also think its funny when you hear people talking about combat and killing ships as if it took some sort of skills. The only skill it takes is having a good layout on your ship, and once you actually get into combat its more like a chessgame than a space combat sim.

Okay first off let's be honest, here is a picture of the average Space Combat Sim. Just replace the Biplane with a Space Jet Fighter, the Background with Stars and the Blimp with a Space Cruiser. Space Sim's are basically "flight simulators" in space. At least in EVE you can fly something bigger then an F-15 Eagle.

Second, what is wrong with chess? 1400 Years after it was invented it is still going strong. Good bet a lot of people like chess. Probably because it is such a skill less game right? Unlike Fighter Jet Sims which have all the skill of turn behind the guy and hold down the space bar.

Without going into specifics I will say the following.

I have been playing for just about 2 years now. Some of my fondest memories are from my first month in the game.

I was scanning in my second week. No I couldn't do every site. But I could do some.

I was in a wardec my third week. I played hero tackler. Tons of fun. I had no clue what was happening most of the time as the overview was so full. Many times the call to warp out was made and I only realized it when I was all alone suddenly. People loved ribbing me over teamspeak for that.

There are lots of noob friendly corps out there.

In my first couple of weeks, I had literally setup a combat frig and some other stuff, threw them in an industrial and would fly around to new areas to try. I kept my ships un-rigged so I could repackage.

2 years later, I still find that the fun I have in EVE is the fun I make, either solo or with friends I have made.

TLDR: Fun in EVE is the fun you make.

Entitlement, the otheer poster hit the nail on the head.

There is no theme park in EVE, well there wasn't FW and Incursions are a little parkish. Still the point of EVE is that you are empowered to make your own fun. Stop looking for the next quest NPC and just play the game. Fly arround, look at stuff. Lose the destroyer and get good in your favorite frigatte. You can do all kinds of things in high and low sec with frigs.

Or you can demand that things are handec to you, you willnever get them, no amount of skills will open that door. Go play wow or swtor either will take you on a buided tour.

OP: According to your character link you are 2 days old. You claim to have done all the tutorials and a few missions as well so you should be well on your way to 1.0 reputation to access level 2 missions. I do not know what skills you have taken but i am willing to bet you have skipped Social and Connections. Social increases the amount of standing you get for each mission and Connections increases your Standings by a chunk, easy enough to get you to level 2 missions by training it to level 2 or 3.

You complain about not being able to get into bigger ships quickly. Well, you can be skilled enough to get yourself into a cruiser and start level 2 missions with basic skills in around 3 days depending on stats and with these skills.

Cruiser 2, Targeting 2 (means you can lock 4 targets), Energy Grid Upgrades 2, Energy Systems Operation 2, Shield Upgrades 2, Gunnery 3, Medium Turret 2, Weapon Upgrades 2, Hull Upgrades 2, Repair Systems 2 and Afterburner 2.

Those are a bunch of basic skills at a high enough skill level to allow you to survive level 2 missions, all trained within 3 days of starting. If you really want to fill out your skills after that then look at the certificate system, that is what it is for. To be honest though if you are complaining about skills taking a week to learn then EvE is really not the game for you. Some of the more advanced skills and specialisations can take months to learn.

Two of the defining characteristics of a carebear are wanting other players to play the way the carebear wants and whining on the forums for the game to change when they don't. Yet I see more threads on these forums from gankers than I do miners whining about wanting the game changed to suit them.

Welcome to MMORPG:Insane Mode. This will probably be as of current the most hardest game you'll ever play and the rewards just as hardcore, ingame and out.
In this game, everything is hard fought, hard earned, and even if you inject RL money for Plex and Aurum you efforts are always hard worked off a RL job, shady or legal.
If you can't handle an addiction which EVE can be,you'd best walk way now or prepare to be yet another one of EVE's regular customers to put it very mildly.

I have been trying out Eve the last week or so. I actually ended up buying 2 accounts after seeing how long it takes to train any skills, becuase I wanted to get into trading, but also Pvp, and I can see it would take too damn long to train in both. (at least for me, I am a bit impatient). .

If you bought 2 new accounts were you given cerebral accelerators as part of the purchase?

These give a massive boost to skill learning for 7 days, hit ESC and hit the claim items tab to see if you got any, then read instructions for their use.

Meh. That's not necessarily true.
EVE is also one of the most casualfriendly games out there. People always forget how awesome EVEs skillsystem is for casuals who don't want to sit 6 hours a day in Stormwind, knitting trousers to push up their knitting skill.

How much effort you have to put into the game depends entirely on the goals you set yourself. I always point towards exploration as the profession of choice for people getting into the game. Low skill requirements, easily doable in a cruiser, takes a guy into lowsec early. Teaches valuable skills like scanning, safepoints, bookmarks. No big commitments to schedules and actually good for solo players. Just fire up the client, explore for an hour and be done with it again. Perfect.

Also, everyone who's exploring is not mining, which is always a plus.

Wow, a lot of harsh replies to you my friend..... LOL. That's ok, if you can't handle it, Eve wouldn't be for you anyway.

No, but seriously. If you approach this game like other MMO's, you'll never find it interesting, and won't get what's great about this game. As a very general statement, I would say Eve is mostly a PvP game at it's heart. If your intent is to continue mission running, you won't last more than a few more weeks, since it's painfully boring. Especially given that the ISK rewards in lower levels missions suck.

The only way your going to start to really have fun in this game is to realize that you have to join a corp, or get involved in factional warfare. Don't fly and fight solo to start. Fleet up, and start to learn the nuances of the game. As a new player, your definitely useful in PvP; stop thinking bigger is better, and that you need great "gear." It's more about filling roles. Tackling, frigates, and destroyers are very useful in factional warfare. So... it's up to you if you want to stick it out.

Let's be honest here. The F1 key combat isn't going to be winning any game play awards. In fact I would say Star Wars Old Republic on-rails space combat is more fun than EVE space combat.

I think the key problem here is all you people are saying "Good riddance" when we should be saying "Yeah it sucks. Hopefully they'll improve it someday."

Arguably there are other reasons to play EVE other than the combat mechanics, but belittling someone because they don't like it just makes you look ignorant.

Looking to talk on VOIP with other EVE players? Are you new and need help with EVE (welfare) or looking for advice? Looking for adversarial debate with angry people?

So the key problem is that everyone should agree with you and the OP that EVE Combat sucks. Know what, I know saying this is going to be part of your so called "key problem" but I'll say it anyway. You can keep your SWTOR Rails and I'll keep EVE.

I'm fairly sure people are getting mad because the OP said their beloved emperor is wearing no clothes.

Or are you going to say that pressing F1 is the apex of interactive game play experience and that no room for improvement exists?

OP can say it all she wants, doesn't make it true.

I love this kind of binary thinking, it is always good for a laugh. Do you support free healthcare or do you think the sick should be shot to death on the street? A valid question if I ever heard one.

Everyone knows there is always room for improvement, go take a gander at F&I, you'll find a lot of people from this thread. There is a massive continent sized difference between room for improvement and saying EVE sucks and is skill less. The changes the OP wants is not an improvement it is a genre change, EVE has a genre the players like and if you want to play a different game there is the door.

F1 gameplay is limited to DPS fleets & PvE. You've clearly never tried anything else.
