Yeah, but Eve players aren't console players, who a majority are probably way younger than the average age of Eve players, so they would have a hissy fit and abandon DUST in droves.

not much considering I did that this morning when going to check out districts. Just depends on the mindset of the person/people involved

Crimes in EVE are the responsibility of the victim. Criminals get a slap on the wrist. It's always been that way.

If the criminal is good at what they do, yes, that is often the case. But there is a long list of ways you can end up screwing up and not making a profit in the end. Your personal skills are what makes those consequences (both the "possible" and the inevitable ones) manageable or avoidable

I had my freighter alt attacked recently with a very juicy cargo on board, but my would be attackers did not take all of the factors present (and certain precautions I had taken) into account. The end result was a fairly significant loss for them, and the cost of minor repairs for me.

Their ship loss was an inevitable consequence, their not making any profit to offset their loss was a possible consequence that they failed to avoid. This was just before the expansion was released, if it had been afterwards they would also have had to deal with the fact that I would have sold my kill rights on them for the attempt, and they would have had to change their method of operation (they had their Talos BC's sitting at the gate from the start)... which means even more potential consequence has been brought into the mix.

I have zero problem with someone being skillful enough to avoid or mitigate the consequences of criminal action, but that doesn't mean those consequences don't exist.

Hadn't thought about this but he is absolutely correct.

Beta aside - In the spirit of all that is EVE, EVE players should really be able to blast away at any planet, on any side they want without invitation. Consequences pending of course in the appropriate security bands.

Now that being said, I know an extremely large number of 30+ adults that play consoles on a daily basis. Of course, if any fool could come blow away their game, they would get frustrated anyway.

There are always solutions, just seldom practical solutions.
Similar to mining. 30 minute marathons of 0 interaction and that gets used against you when you go AFK.

and even then, only if orbital strike support doesn't incur aggression.

Do you realize that there are really strong, well organized player organisations all over Lowsec and Nullsec, that might be able to communicate and coordinate with Dust players?

The only thing that CCP has to get right is that Dust Battles really MATTER on a larger scale. Currently the link is weak (imho). Only some system influence within the faction war system. But Dust is Closed Beta right now, we‘re at the beginning of things.

If Dust Battles really matter, for example because sovereignity in Nullsec heavily depends on them, or if the outcome of Dust Battles governs who is able to mine Moon Materials in some system, then there will be very strong motivations for EVE corporations to coordinate with Dust mercenaries – or to nuke them off the face of the planets.

It‘s an MMO after all. Your comment sounds like you‘re just thinking about some solo pilots interacting with Dust mercenaries.

Yeah, although I have a character in DUST I have to admit I'm more interested in the prospect of selling/supplying/employing them with my EvE characters than anything else.

- losing your ship (in most cases dirt cheap),
- criminal flag (15 minutes of sitting in nearest station which provides you safe instadock)
- SS loss (which is easily returned by shooting NPCs. Don't forget about CONCORD bounties for doing it)

I will point out that the most important point (losing your ship) in most cases is far from "dirt cheap" anymore, and you've overlooked a consequence or two. Smile
