I visited a collection of the museum in Berlin yeeeeears ago, when being in school. There was a red steel thingy lying in front of a red metal radiator. A small sign at the wall told us that this "art" was called something with red steel or so, I dont remember right but it was an absolutely unexciting name. So my frinds and I sat down on the red steel thingy, looking at the radiator and wondering why that should be art. And the bench we were sitting on was really cold, no pillows or anything!

Didnt take long until a watchman came over and wanted to throw us out, fortunately we could explain our behavior and he took it with a smile :)

Another "art" thingy was a frontwheel of a bicycle mounted on a wooden stool.

Buuuuuut, even if I dont really know what modern art is, EvE is beautiful.

So?

Just because people pay millions for a Van Goth doesn't mean the dude knew how to paint, or Pollock for that matter.

I can tell you're one of those people that thinks "anything can be art". I'd like to say as someone with real talent that that is a bunch of bullshit.

Monet, who you obviously know as being the "modern" artist of his time, is rolling in his grave. Yes, I'm one of those people that beleives that actual talent is needed to make art, and that art post 1950's (Modern art) isn't art. I don't care if it looks pretty hanging voer your TV becuse it matches your carpet and drapes.

It's not "Art" when everyone can do it. EVE is art, as are many other games, but they belong in a real museum, not MoMA. MoMA is were you go when you want to see what people do in the absense of talent and dignity.

I consider EVE mondern art, a lot of other games as well.

Having taste and sensebility doesn't make me narrow minded. It just means that the stuff my nephews draw for me are cute, but they aren't "Art".

EVE offers something worthwhile that doesn't require anyone to interpurt or have meaning beyond the capacity of the viewer to understand because it's hidden as a "white on white" painting, you know, real art.

I know. He even kept on at it vehemently after I typed "to each his own".

To dismiss all modern art as trash is ignorant.

Like anything else, be it literature or Internet games, 95% of it is BS.

It's a matter of finding the 5% that is the true gems. I cannot stand country and western music in general. Hate it, but I can list 5 artists who I really like and will listen to, so I cannot say all C & W is trash.

You are the one with the sadly closed mind....AND there are libraries full of critical opinions that negate yours utterly.

Even my (RIP) Father, who HATED 'modern art' went into shock when he walked into the Rothko Chapel, and actually 'got' his work. Even he had to recant.

But go ahead and live in your own mental cave.

Would you expect someone that builds custom motorcycles to "just quit" a discussion about custom motorcycles? I wouldn't.

I said MOST modern art is crap, a hack job. There's very little "good" modern art, such that it's actually art, or involved some level of real talent. Most of the time it's the equivilant of a really bad novel that requires the artist to explain the plot for anyone to remotely grasp it; that someone group of people decided was worthy of displaying in a museum and calling "Art", when it is not. Which may be why MoMA isn't taken seriously by a lot of artists, and why it's NOT the pinacle of "Art" today.

EVE is worthy of far more then MoMA. It doesn't belong in a musuem that considers a 3inch piece of rope tacked to a wall "Art", or balck canvas "Art", or splattering paint randomly on canvas "Art".

But what can be expected when the people who decide what art is tend to be the collectors and displayers of art, and not the artists themselves; as it's always been. It's no different then Monet being repeatedly turned away from the Salon, because they didn't think impressionism was "Art, and therefore not worthy. Today it just happens to be the arguement of whether or not literal crap is considered art.

PS: And if you think I'm bad here, imagine what it's like to be the person with me when I start screaming and strorming out of a modern art museum, infuriated by the idiocy I witnessed.

It's that passion that keeps me from feeling that it's subjective. Trash is trash. No matter how much fabreeze I spray on my trash, no matter how much like a rose it looks, it's still trash.

And MoMA is a landfill. EVE deserves better than a landfill.

I think it's great they're getting recognized, just sucks it's gotta be MoMA that's doign the recognition.

And no, I'm not the minority. I don't care how many proffesors tell you that "modern art" is the pinacle of art today.

Like I said, history has demonstrated that "what is art" has rarely ever been decided by the people that actually make the art; it's decided by collecters and exhibitors, and something most artists have always been a bit at odds with.

In fact, artist throughout history, sinse the rise of the art musuem have traditionally been at odds with museums in general. Generally it's not enjoyable to have to gain the exceptance of even your peers, it's another when you're practically required to gain the acceptance of people who aren't your peers.

When you get done art school, and if you decide that you want to do traditional art, you'll eventually end up just like me. You tend to reach this point when you get to know intimately that what people think of as "art" is usually not decided by the artists or the art itsetlf, but "someone" else.


Why do you think history is full of so many bitter, alchoholic, and drug addicted artists. Something makes us this way.
MoMA is a pretty good example of one of those things.



On a serious note. I'd love to hear what CCP's artists think about this.

Hell it even covers stuff they are only just getting in. Get this, there is a bounty hunter profession!.

For real quite alot of the manual is about picking your character blood lines etc and how that effects you, all of which is superfluous now. As is much of the mechanics that have changed, and the ship selection has rather improved :).
