This news makes me a very sad panda.

I guess I too will now be looking forward to games like Star citizen. And if that game gives me big ships, an economy to milk and awesome WiS content, I'll protest with my wallet.

Eve is about Capital ships, WiS, Boobs, PI and Isk!

Well Star Citizen it is, then.

Star Citizen is just going to come out and be mediocre

Just be happy with Eve cause it's the best video game ever created

Its called 'Star Citizen'. Nuff said.

You guys who backed this, I find astonishing when Elite: Dangerous is also being pimped and offers way more attractive gameplay concepts. I hate Wing Commander tbh.

Wing Commander was one of the shittiest space sims I've ever played. The Xwing series, particularly Alliance, was far superior.

I'm sure Dust will have space stations based conference rooms / common halls (they are in video clips already) - and EVE pilots will be able to use them too sooner or later.

Star Citizen will be awesome just because is not under the command of some big fat game companies, so the devs listen to their customers not to the suits. Not to mention that Chris Roberts is 120% dedicated to his dream..and boy... he really have a awsome dream.

They should have stuck with unreal or w/e torfi tech demo'd in 2009/10 that looked close to actually working and being useful and was suddenly abandoned for some in-house stuff they spent ~12m dollars on to bring us one room and a door ..

The room and door problem was fixed, by giving us the option not to load the station environment. Still it would be nice to be able to run several eve clients on average hardware smoothly, just like you could pre-Incarna.

I like the new graphics stuff they are doing turret, missile, etc animations and the new shaders and all that stuff, it looks awesome. But in the end you are still spending most of you time looking at the overview or little red dots, where fancy graphics means nothing.

Gentlemen, ladies, and other assorted scum and villains.

EVE will never die.

Ever.

Because this will be the only space MMO that actively encourages theft, douchbaggery, betrayal, more theft, lying, scamming, piracy, and griefing hapless miners.

There may well be other space MMO's in the future that involve huge spaceships blowing stuff up.....but as long as humanity still produces assholes, there will be people playing EVE.

I mean, come on, you think the Goons are ever going to leave the game? Or the Russians?

Never , I say.

Now send me isk you cheap bastards.

Everything in EVE is a trap.

And if it isn't, it's your job to make it a trap...:)

EvE will never die. is currently untoachable in her armored niche. Nobody neither try to challange it.
Some Sci-Fi flavour is not enough to make a competitor; have to be: sci-fi background + persitent universe sandbox and non now or for the next years plan to challenge this.

The only way to die for EvE would be suiciding.
Or a scenario like: CCP sell a quote to Sony and Sony destory the game (Sony is good at destorying good games)

But beside this... How many wanna-be competitor we've seen int he years? For many of them we don't even remember the names, go figure. They didn't even get close to have a ticket to join a challange against EVE.

I don't think this means the end of WIS.

CCP are doing some really good work at the moment iterating on eve's existing features but i think CCP know, like many of the players do, that the game can't just be about spaceships forever.

Just to answer a couple of points:

  • Team Avatar doesn't exist anymore. As per the thread linked earlier our prototype has been shelved for the time being. Please read both my post and the one from CCP Unifex for the full picture on what's happening with WIS development at the moment. The team members are off working on a whole bunch of stuff from the launcher, through to new game features.
  • WoD is definitely still in development and development is split off from EVE so that they can concentrate on their game and making it awesome.

For those of you interested in WiS content, like myself, you will be disheartened to find out that it seems CCP have pulled the plug on using Carbon as the engine for the World of Darkness game.

http://www.wodnews.net/Home/tabid/41/Article/750/exclusive-incarnacarbon-forked-between-eve-and-wod-mmo.aspx

Now, many of you will probably be thinking "What does that have to do with WiS?" Well, for a long time we had been under the impression that the World of Darkness team were developing gameplay using the Carbon engine, which meant animations, characters, environments etc would be getting worked on away from Eve so that eventually when they were better developed and would be able to get generalised to Eve to give us WiS content.

Because they have stopped using Carbon, it means no one is working on it. The Eve Avatar team have been re-assigned to making UI changes a while ago which means that now NO ONE at CCP is working on anything resembling WiS. It has been completely and utterly dropped.

Isn't this now the second engine you've completely dropped? Am I the only person who is more than a little pissed off about this?

Good catch and horrible news. I feel like you are failing us CCP leadership, and CSM until I see any kind of commitment towards WIS content. I really feel bad for the WOD team as well. This had to crush them.

It seems worse to hear it confirmed from you guys.

Thanks though for keeping us in the loop, you guys have been too quiet about about WiS content recently. Don't confuse that with me being happy about it though. It's a damn shame.

Although I doubt you'll be able to answer any questions, can you tell us if after the patching of Retribution there are any plans to start development on any WiS content?

Thanks for the reply, Bayesian.

I look forward to one day reading your post telling us that the WiS project has been reactivated.

As much as i love PVP, and as much as i hate PVE-only players, i was disappointed to see WIS scrapped. I Really hope they bring this back. Several people i know were disappointed that they cant really interact with their characters outside of a spaceship. I think it would be a great way to attract players who enjoy character customization and that type of interaction. It would make a noob's life more interesting too. I think if WIS is done right, it could totally be a true EVE experience.

PVPIS
New Item: Occular Nanite Parasite
Requirements: LVL5 Stealth, LVL4 Nanotech.
Function: Tracks the location of your victem for 30 minutes, including ship type, condition, boosters and implants.

New Item: Covert Cynosural Trojan
Requirements: LVL5 Stealth, LVL5 Nanotech, LVL5 Cyno
Function: Allows you to hijack for a moment the victem's motor cortex, forcing him to hit the Cyno button and transmit the coordinates to your fleet.

Imagine being able to PVP in stations. It could be awesome way to supplement the pewpew.

Its always amusing to read the 'new game has spaceships, therefore EVE IS DYING' comments.

If you think the most significant thing about Eve is the spaceships, then you really haven't been paying attention.
