    Thanks for the reply, Bayesian.

I look forward to one day reading your post telling us that the WiS project has been reactivated.

well for developement timeline that will be after

new sov (so no go in 2013)

new pos (so no go in 2014)

hopefully dust will be a sucess and by 2015 CCP will have EVE in a strong enough place and have enough money that they can reinvest in the WIS prototype and finish it...

tbh i wish they just opened the damn door... but have it lead to a dust closet and make it one big joke...

I too am looking forward to Star Citizen including having made a pledge, especially after I saw that they will have a form of WiS that on paper looks far superior to what was planned in Eve anyways. Walking on planets, even walking in our own ships and ships that can be boarded by pirates.

Now the only hope I have left in Eve is that they release those latex catsuits that they have repeatedly said they had ready or almost ready and after months and months and months nothing >.>

you do understand that there is a huge differnece between the WIS that incarna was going to bring and the Prototype they are talking about right?

i have no problem with keeping WIS in the "Closet"

but ffs i was really hopping to see the prototype for active avatar gameplay in 2 years...

good thing about eve is eventually we will have it... its just a matter of time...

If it doesn't add anything positive or worthwhile to the game then it is a waste of development time. When CCP can't even put together a decent number of people to re-balance game mechanics they certainly shouldn't be wasting time on worthless new 'features'.

Lol at all the optimism for Star Citizen. I'm looking forward to the game too but lets be real its no competition to EVE. Everything shown says its Freelancer in high detail, that's it. Yes you can get out of the cockpit and walk around but for what purpose? 99% of what you do will be in space. You can't fly capital ships, the player count is capped at what 100-200 players? There's going to be around what 100 systems? Freelancer was really cool when it came out, and its still fun, but I'd choose EVE over it any day.

It really depends on how they do it. If Star Citizen has the immersion and the story of Wing Commander, it could be quite big. If combat is fun and addictive, it could get bigger. And so on, and so forth. Plus the main draw for me personally is the promise that it will be a PC game at heart. No compromises for silly console restrictions.

And while a lot of the stuff is probably true (reg 100-200 player limit), is that really all that bad? Not everyone likes blobs. I certainly don't. And even 100 people shooting each other is a respectable number.

Flying capital ships, again depending on how it's done, might not be necessary. If you remember Wing Commander, in some ships you could switch between turrets (front or rear of the craft). They can also go the Planetside 1 route, where it took multiple people to drive tank - one to drive, one to man the turret), meaning larger craft might require 2-4 people cooperating to survive. And if the limit is 200 CRAFT, not 200 people, and some craft fit up to 4 people? That's 800 people in a battle, not too shabby.

They could add boarding action avatar combat within the ship. It's nothing new, first I saw it was in Starblade (Silmarils, 1990), and more recently in Pirates of the Burning Sea (Sony MMO, 2008). That could add a lot of depth to combat.

Depending on how they handle collision and line of sight, the combat itself might get very interesting, if smaller wounded craft can hide behind larger, heavily tanked units and avoid damage that way (this is also something Pirates of the Burning Sea had). Might make even relatively blobby combat a lot deeper than EVE's. We just don't know yet.

Bottom line, it's not a "threat" to EVE per se. EVE is a full-fledged MMO with all that that entails, and Star Citizen is more of a multiplayer game. BUT, if done right, we could see Star Citizen siphon a lot of players from many games, including EVE. Again, depends on execution and how far they're willing to take it. You just never know. I mean, look at Guild Wars 2, looked incredibly promising on paper, but the population is steadily going down as developers fail to address core issues. And many folks expected it to be the best thing to happen to the genre since sliced bread. You never can tell.

Having said that, adding avatar gameplay to EVE, and turning it from "spaceship game" into "sci-fi sim" could have been the best thing to happen to it. Let's face it, the game IS stagnating. There's "growth", but most of it is most likely alt accounts. The actual player numbers are nowhere near high enough. EVE's 65k peak concurrent users (or current 45k average) are nothing compared to GW2's recent 400k or WoW's recent 1000k concurrent users. It's not even in the same category. Avatar gameplay could change that. Or not. Personally I feel it's worth the risk, though obviously CCP disagrees and is happy to continue watching the game go on stagnating. Hey, it's their business. Literally.

I would have loved to agree with your sentiment babe....

But after this soul killing newskie, the only thing that'l keep me around would be stripper bars and casinos.... a cat suit just wont cut it.

WiS was a huge waste of resources. The only plus going forward would be to trim it off the release so it saves download time and disk space.

why you think WIS is scrapped ? BC Some Idiots screaming EvE is Spaceships only.
Even if some gameplay sharded when Star Citizen goes life,it will have the features WIS could have and with a great and above all tested game engine

Why should we remove the biggest failure from CCP out of this game.
Let it be ,so CCP remembers never to promise something they can,t handle ever again.

Just to answer a couple of points:

    • Team Avatar doesn't exist anymore. As per the thread linked earlier our prototype has been shelved for the time being. Please read both my post and the one from CCP Unifex for the full picture on what's happening with WIS development at the moment. The team members are off working on a whole bunch of stuff from the launcher, through to new game features.
    • WoD is definitely still in development and development is split off from EVE so that they can concentrate on their game and making it awesome.

So we are going to show something at Fanfest and discuss this with real humans ,was another we show something promise?

Sounds like it, from the other thread linked earlier. Though next year's FanFest is last week of April. So still over 5 moths away. And just because something gets talked about at FanFest, doesn't mean it'll get done. Unless there's already playable prototype by FanFest, I wouldn't expect anything in 2013.
