Socket closed 5 times in just over an hour. Sounds like maybe the winter expansion ought to be on hold until the basic function of CONNECTING TO THE SERVER is taken care of. Might be useful to have a player base that can enjoy the expansion for more than afew minutes at a time so they can rave about how awesome it is to their friends instead of posting annoyed forum posts like this one.

Getting the same problem, its damn annoying. I multibox a few accounts, either 1 or 2 drop and the other 2 accounts are ok, or they all drop.
The worse part is what when I see one of my chars flying away from the fleet because he has had a closed socket. I can't then close that client to restart it. I have to wait until I get the restart\quit option to come up, which can take anything from 1 to 5 minutes to appear.

I have experienced the same problem as above for the last four days although it seems to be happening only in the evening (EUTZ). Typically the first signs of this problem turning up is a significant slowdown of market, wallet and inventory updates.

Wow thought this was just me having the issue! So far I have:
- Done the old turn it off turn it on again tricks.
- Cleared Cache
- Uninstalled and reinstalled a clean copy of EVE.

Also interesting is I seem to be getting booted from a lot of DUST514 games too when I haven't before, issues may be related?

I am:
- Nottingham, UK
- BT is my ISP
- Using BT infinity ~40Mbits/s connection and stable

If there is any more information I can provide to bring an end to my multiboxing nightmares please let me know.

I have been having the Socket Closed error for the last month, it seems to be when I have multiple clients open. I have had it were it only closes one of 3 clients open and I have had it close all of my clients with the same error. It seems to happen more often when I'm jumping from system to system, but it isn't limited to that, as I have been ratting in a system with my accounts and gotten the error 2 hours in.

I have had it close out TS as well, and other times TS doesn't skip a beat! Also I run two laptops and while one will get the Socket Closed error, the other one just keeps right on like nothing happened.

CCP Please HELP!!! This is not ok that I can't even play the game anymore. I had 3 of these erros within the last 30mins, the first two were only a few second, but the last time it shut everything down for 3mins. I finally gave up playing and watched a movie!

If there is any program I can run to record when this happens or any log files I can send you I would love to get this problem fixed.

Was playing eve perfect for hours yesterday, at about 19:00 (UK Time) I got socket closed about 7 or maybe 8 times within about 30 mins.

Don't know how or where to get info that a Techie mite need to look into it.

Things I do know:
-Character was active....very active, was out and about doing missions, salvaging, trying to warp, trying to dock trying to activate and deactivate modules.
-My internet connection was perfect, I didn't lose connection at any time!
-The only other thing using the internet was google chrome which I was using for Somer Blink.
-For the brief moments where I was able to connect, I noticed other people complaining about the same error and not the odd one or two lots of people (One of which I know to be French)

I don't think it's bound to any particular region, It is definitely 1 million percent not my ISP or my Computer, I agree with people saying that this has only happened since inferno patch. I personally have not seen it before then.

I can only guess that there must have been a big fight last night, as it all started to slow down and then freeze in the same way it used when there was a massive fight going on.
Could it be linked to Time Dilation or programming that has been modified in an attempt to gain better performance on the TQ server ?

Whatever is going on it needs to be sorted as it is unbelievably frustrating!!!!

PS opening the new inventory seemed to cause about 3 of the errors

Getting Socket Closed.. Unable to view forums or they are slow. Kicking me out of game and also unable to log in....

However I have noticed its a routing issue. And a router in my route is playing up. I am with BT in the UK. And the router isnt a BT router so most of my internet is fine

I think that this specific issue is something that is out of scope for CCP's responsibility. There are a few posts on BT's forums that relate to this issue.

I ended up e-mailing the ISP AboveNet (Which is now owned by Zayo) saying that I couldn't get to CCP's sites and Eve and I couldn't get the AboveNet Site neither and now the routing is looking a lot more healthier...

I live in central Europe, nothing to do with BT, but have the same problem.

The issue is NOT related to multiple clients, I also have it with running a single client. Ofc it could well be that it increases the probability if you run multiple clients.

I happen to have been working with various remote logins on distant servers while socket closed, but NONE of my other connections broke down, so I'm quite sure this is not related to anything in my local setup here or my ISP's.

Could we finally get SOME STATEMENT FROM CCP that they are at least aware of this, and hopefully even looking into it?

Just to add my experience here;

Starting yesterday evening I had eve logged in when the client closed with 'Socket was closed' errors.

From that point on, whenever I start the client I now get:

* a python exception on launcher startup ((I have copy pasted copies of these))
0r
* 'Unable to connect to content server, shall I start the client anyway' as a message.

Upon choosing 'start the client anyway' I get

* server: unknown / status: unknown
or
* authentication appears to hang
or
* authentication works, but on selecting a character to play I get a double 'Socket was closed' popup.

The odd thing is that I am unable to contact any eve domains either. I cannot load forums.eveonline.com, for example.
All other internet web access / name resolution / streaming etc.. works fine. (I am currently connecting from a different address to get here)

At the moment for me, Eve is not working and I can't play :/

I don't think that BT was the only telco affected by the peering issue that seemed to affect a large majority of BT Infinity customers.

El Reg wrote:
BT Infinity customers have been complaining about peering issues that have prevented some of them from accessing popular websites for nearly five days.

And now, after some haranguing, the national telco has said sorry for the service disruptions its punters have been moaning about.

BT said in a statement to The Register:

We are aware that some customers are having trouble accessing some websites and online services. This is due to an issue with a peering network beyond BT’s service boundary. Our support team is working with a third party to resolve the issue asap. We would like to apologise for any inconvenience this issue has caused.

A number of readers got in touch to tell us that they were struggling with BT's service due to a "major packet loss".

The company's customer forums were also full of posts about the problem, which some claimed originated from overseas traffic going through Zayo-owned AboveNet in the US.

El Reg understands that BT is not the only telco affected by the peering problems.

We've asked AboveNet for a statement and we'll update the story if the company returns our call.

^Quoting the above ^

Was doing a bit of research last night and I have noticed that quite a few AVG users have encountered this problem,
It may be co-incidence that users of AVG have had this, some seem to think their anti virus could be the cause, although I have checked my firewall etc a million times to ensure it's not being blocked and it's set to notify me when it does block something.

I'm not an expert by any stretch, but could this be related to the way that "packets" are being sent to and from a persons computer whilst in game?
Is it possible that my security software will under certain conditions see eve as a virus?
Have there been any changes to the client, that could cause this issue?

I don't care who or what is at fault, I just want to get it fixed.

The problem with the ISP that hands the traffic from your ISP to the Servers.... They did some work over the weekend as they have recent been brought up and they were mergeing the networks together....

Still got problems with closed sockets.

Changing the port to 3724 as mentioned here http://support.eveonline.com/Pages/KB/Article.aspx?id=405 doesn't help.
Got disconnected again a few days earlier.

Interesting was that I couldn't access EVE Forum as well for about a minute - other websites did work though.

//edit
Got it again while i was AFK.
But now there is something new.
I was running EVE with two clients on PC1 (my main) and one client on PC2 (laptop).
All clients on PC1 lost connection, the client on PC2 kept working.
Maybe there is a conflict between some sort of software or something.
Both machines are running under Windows 7 Professional 64bit.
