The few Dev comments we have gotten is it will involve cooperative game play in a hostile environment. Something like we saw in one of the trailers with people in space suits exploring ruins. I presume part of the "cooperative" part is having protection so your ship does not get stolen while you are walking about.

This is still en-route and I'm currently trying to unclog the pipes that are holding the dev blog up. It's been delayed for so long now I'm going to update the pictures on it to something that's more representative of the current state of things!

You're correct though the gameplay we've been prototyping is based around cooperative gameplay in a hazardous environment. You'd be cooperating both in space and in the structure you were all walking around in though and there would still be the potential for conflict with other people in the structures you are exploring.

We're pretty excited about what we've come up with internally.

Well that certainly sounds promising, I wonder if in future we could interact with DUST soldiers on stations, now that would be just awesome.
anyway always good to hear that incarna as a feature is not forgotten, just waiting for better days.

Well, if each race has its own racial weapon systems, then each race should likewise have its own racial fighting style.

In which case you have a perfectly legitimate excuse for Caldari to utilize Falcon Punch.

TO CCP walking in stations was just a way they could get an item shop into the game. Now its here it no longer has any uses and will not be developed any more.

That sounds good. Ready for dev blog now.

My completely awesome idea:

Develop the WiS stuff it as a new game. Have all kinds of cool stuff in stations - bars, gambling, let us shoot, talk and otherwise interact with each other. With enough depth, it could even be a whole MMO in itself.

Then, in a similar way to Dust, tie it all into Eve. If we travel between stations, we buy passage on an Eve player's ship. Let us hire Dust players to take planets for us, or maybe to provide muscle for our station-based crime syndicate.

I would love to see this sort of "integrated but seperate" idea develop to the point where I, playing WiS Online, could hire Eve players to transport my Dust-player mercenaries to the station owned by my rival in order for them to assault his HQ, creating enough of a distraction for my friend's spy character to hack my rival's computers and download his most advanced blueprints or siphon off cash.

Greetings capsuleer,

It was suggested before. It was partially supported, but the rabidly fanatical "WiS or death" capsuleers did not like the idea. I supported it, simply because it meant capsuleers and the further investment in New Eden was separate.

Regards,

Shian Yang

DOH!

Still, um. great minds think alike! (and I just added another like to her post)

I think if safe to assume the vaste majority of EvE Online players want CCP resources on FiS.

The vast majority of vocal players, sure. Most Eve players probably never post on the forums.

Well, i'm pretty sure, that there would no one seriously deny any interest in FIS.
But please look at a recent made remark from CCP:
Quote:
At Fanfest we had a large number of people asking us to give them more options for personalizing the look of their avatar.

... which shows pretty good, that there IS a significant amout of people ALSO interested in stuff besides FIS.

Sooner or later WiS will be released because EVE is the looooooooooooooooong term game, and it would be awesome, and it would produce only profits for everyone (devs, old players, new players) and i hope there is team created only for working on WiS.

Personally i'm waiting for WiS, and please release it fully in the next 3 years.

I run several instances of eve in my computer and i always turn the station environment off. The game runs pretty faster with that **** off.

I would love to pilot my ship with a joystick, for example. Making this a true game of spaceships. Not just spam clicking the screen as a ******. Actually maneuvering. That would be a great improvement, and not a second life inside EVE.

This is the most exciting thing I've heard in ... ever? I'm glad to see they have some actual gameplay underway with Incarna. It's a very impressive engine; I hate to see it being used solely for staring at the door.

Serious question: why are you not doing these things in Second Life or some other such 'social gameplay' environment?

Because I want to play with spaceships too. Why can't I do both? I have friends in this game, I don't have friends who play WoW or Second Life.

You and your friends can go to STO. It got spaceships, dance...Big smile

This is also something I'd like to see in some form in the future. I have my combatstick 568 ready at any time, I use it in games such as Freespace 2 (which has only gotten better over the years, like a fine wine), and of course X3.

Just to be totally clear this has so far been prototype work and we need management support to move further on into the production of it. That lots of players and developers are actually quite excited about it is obviously a big plus point in that regard.

We waited nearly 10 years for Incarna at all; being an Eve player teaches you to be patient. It's exciting to see that it's being worked on at all. Here's hoping that CCP will approve the support and developers for you to move this work to the next level.

Avatar based exploration in a hazardous environment. This is what I was hoping for. Quick, someone give this team some resources.

EVE can be more than just spaceships.

Doh! Sad : I was right, WiS is gonna be the same FIS stuff I didn't care about for three years, but with avatars.

Yes! Twisted : my informed hunches are becoming deadly accurate, for what is worth.

CCP Bayesian: you think that people want FiS on avatars, and i think that people wants something else.

Your line of thought ends with a hundred art assets wasted, and mine ends outside of EVE.

Wasn't team avatar originally supposed to be funded by the NEX store to keep them separate from FIS? Now that people are actually using it (since there are items under $70), maybe they'll start getting some extra cash flow.

I think i remember this concept at one of the fanfests right? Tying it into the exploration system so you can actually dock at them nice looking stations you find and explore the inside in search of artifacts or an ancient computer to hack. It opens up so many possibilites and i'm extremely excited that this is being prototyped.

It does raise a lot of questions about how it will work in game though. What happens to a capsuleer if we die outside of our pod? What happens to our ship if we die inside a station where its docked? etc etc. I guess its way to early to think about these kind of things though.

Looking forward to the blog
