Dear Hellmar,

I have been fascinated by the development of EVE from the very beginning. What you are all creating is incredibly daring and innovative.
On the one hand, not everyone can imagine how many complex and rich experiences EVE may yet offer ... On the other, most hardcore players simply don't care... This is why it is so hard to be a pioneer. It's a risky business requiring a unique blend of courage and caution, infused with a whole lot of sturdy endurance.

I have to admit that lately I do not have time to play this game, and even when I did, I was a boring carebear. As it stands this game is extremely time consuming and it requires a level of dedication and commitment I simply cannot master.

Paradoxically, my favorite moments in EVE are when you and Torfi talk with great passion about the future and potential of EVE. I love a great vision, it's like being on the front line of evolution itself.

I hope that one day I will find my own place in this game - these days I only find time to play casual kind of games. Therefore yes, you are absolutely right, the gaming industry is changing very rapidly and those who do not see the big picture will not endure.

I understand that people who play much more then me are very upset, you tried to steamroll your way to the future, that only works if you intend to rule the world as an Entitled Tyrant. (ET) :-) To your credit, you are not the first innovator who has attempted to outpace his own vision.

"When we are no longer able to change a situation, we are challenged to change ourselves". ~Victor Frankl

Your humble sincerity is very inspiring and cleansing ... Thank you.

Please continue to manifest the vision that is EVE.

It's refreshing to see these problems adressed, and it restores my faith in CCP.

I'm sure every one of us wants to come along for the ride, and be a part of EVE as it evolves and adapts, and I am certainly among their ranks. Myself, and many of my friends, have gone as far as to buy new computers, or more monitors, for no other reason than to be able to enjoy EVE to the fullest. The way EVE works makes it more than a recreational activity, it's practically a seperate world that you can experience, virtual reality as opposed to a game.

While the cash shop's items are outrageously overpriced, I see no real harm in it. People who have that kind of loose change will spend the money, those who don't, will not. I can't condemn any move that may score CCP a little more money that may go towards better expansions, or improved servers.

My one, major qualm is DUST.

Many people see DUST as a shameless cash-in, to take advantage of a console shooter market that is blooming right now, the money is flowing like wine for games like Call of Duty.
Again, anything that might net CCP some more moolah is fine by me, and I'm interested in the game, it's an expansion on the EVE Universe that I would enjoy taking part in, or at least exploring.
The problem is the exclusion associated with the (inexplicable and sudden) announcement that the game will be a PS3 exclusive.

Not only are you outright excluding the entire PC userbase that make up all EVE players, as logically anyone who is a fan of EVE owns a home computer, but you're even denying yourselves the revenue that such a game would have, were it released on the Xbox 360.

It's a decision I cannot understand. If you wanted to attract EVE fans, the PC would be a logical choice, if you wanted a very large community of shooter enthusiasts, the Xbox would have been the right choice. The PS3 has neither.
Why not go multiplat?
You say you want EVE to be accessible for everyone, yet you exclude your own fans, and at least 70% of your potential fans.

I may have bought two more monitors for EVE, but DUST alone will not justify such a significant and expensive purchase as a PS3. For those EVE players who own neither console, I doubt they very much enjoy the idea of having to buy one.
I would buy the game if it were released on the PC, I would even pay another subscription fee on top of EVE if I enjoyed the game, but excluding fans of EVE who don't own consoles by making it a console exclusive is very short-sighted.

Consider this another red flag, one that I urge you to heed.

Hope is restored.

Faith - Will take a little longer.

But damn, that was a fine dev blog Hillmar, and a good first step to restoring faith as well.
CCP's actions over the coming months will show if faith can be restored as well.

I hope so.

To Sir Hilmar -

These are my simple words to you sir --- THANK YOU!!

CCP's sand box is EVE Online.  The sand is owned by CCP.  We pay them a monthly fee to throw the sand at each other.  That is all that is here, so move along. Nothing more to be seen.

I think you guys just went up a notch in my book. Everyone makes mistakes, especially in business, but it takes a big man to own up to them and apologize and then change his ways. Will this happen? I think so, because if it doesn't the fallout will destroy eve. Keep your word, and your customers will be here to support you!

It's all just pixels on a screen, but just like the 3D simulation transcents its two-dimensional simulation, I think the sentiment of the letter certainly projects more than the status quo. I look forward to winter! Brand new PC is on the way and so will my alt account!

A very well written piece, Hillmar. I have resubbed both my accounts. Provisionally. I am taking a chance and giving CCP the benefit of the doubt, against the lessons of past experiences.

Use the next few months well and you'll regain your lost customers.

Appology Accepted...

And thank you for finally coming to terms that 'we' are CCP's share holders more so than anyone else...

We are true fans of EVE. And I look forward to a revival in Development under your more humbled guidance.

Thank you, and thank you CCP staff.

Dear Hilmar
Its really a wonderful thing to hear from someone up the foodchain. Its even better to hear that you are truly apologetic to the EVE Community. It takes guts to admit you are wrong, it takes even more courage to admit failing the EVE Community. Granted there are times when you don't pay attention to what some of the community has to say, but when the majority say something needs work, then chances are, it needs work. I support your endeavor to soul search and make EVE better, but i have one piece of advice that i would like everyone in CCP and the EVE community to embrace, It takes time to make something perfect. If all the community does is bark at CCP for messing something up, instead of letting them take time to fix it, then everyone gets in a bad mood. CCP Hilmar, i want you to tell everyone on the development team to take their time and do it right, no matter the time limit, i want incredible good looking content in EVE as much as anyone, so don't do what other game companies to and RUSH RUSH RUSH, please take the time to do it right and continue to listen to the EVE Community as a whole, the good and the bad. Do what you see is best, but not without consideration of how it will affect ALL of us. I support you 100%, keep the game alive.
Thank you.

For a long time - too long a time - this ship called EVE has been rudderless and her Captain oblivious to the protests of her crew.

It has taken near mutiny to awaken you Hilmar and even though you might see the course we need to chart we are still adrift in a heavy storm. Let's see how you handle the tiller from here.

This.....is unexpected

But in a really, really good way.

It's really nice to see that people really can stop and see when the course they've set is leading them astray. To be honest I really didn't think something like this was likely to happen after the "perfect storm" mentioned.

I hope that this is the first step of many in taking EVE to it's fullest potential and in improving communications between CCP and the community. Because there was some helluva damage done in the last fiasco. Improving trust and communications is important.

Because where we're headed, we're gonna need it.

Honestly, the drama and shenanigans this summer left a bitter taste in my mouth. The skeptic in me doubts that Hilmar even wrote that, that it was written by someone else, he read the copy and approved it to be posted in his name.

Regardless: Actions, not words, and all we have so far is the latter.
