Let's toss this out as an ideal. What if, there were a place where two pilots enter and only one pilot leaves? This place would be an arena of sorts. Two gates, at opposite ends of a giant arena floating in space. Let's say the arena is 100km in circumference. A giant sphere.

When you wish to fight someone in this arena, you agree to a duel by entering your names in a dueling box. Once both parties agree. One pilot flies to one gate entrance. The other flies to the other gate entrance. Only the two pilots who agreed to fight can participate. The arena is a sealed environment. No other ships may enter the arena when a fight is in progress. Once you enter it is to the death.

Only ships of the same class may enter. They can be fitted any way a pilot wishes. So in other words frigate vs frigate. Or BC vs BC.

You cannot fight the same pilot more than twice during any given month.

All pilots who wish to participate in the matches must make an entry fee of X amount of ISK. This will go into payout pool.

The more victories you achieve the higher your ranking. Once a month the topped ranked pilots for that month will receive a monetary prize for their efforts. The more people that participate the higher the prize winnings.

There would be rankings for frigates, cruisers, battle cruisers and battleships.

At the end of the year - the top ranked pilot for the year will get a fully fitted faction version of the ship that they flew during the season.

At the end of the year the rankings reset and the matches start all over again.

The game would track and list win - losses of those who participate.

Also...as an added benefit - other players could place bets on the fights.

So - is this something anyone else would like to see in game?

How does this take the open-endedness out of EVE. If anything it gives players more reason to PvP. It is also to the death. Things will still go boom. This just gives another option to make things go boom.

If you want to organise, advertise and enforce such an operation please feel free. For myself I'll give it a miss, WH space provides ample opportunity for PvP.

Yes, you are, when you come in saying...that's not fair...we can't RR and use under handed tactics. This is about pilot vs pilot. Not a pilot gang banged by a dozen of your buddies and you.

I never mentioned fairness. All I mentioned was keeping in spirit with this game's free-form, player-driven nature. Keep digging that hole deeper though.


The people who make suggestions like this don't get it though. They've never shot at another player in their lives, and want to be able to feel the water with their toes in an environment equivalent to a puddle after a light drizzle.

They also don't understand that they will still get their asses handed to them, because a gated arena doesn't account for player experience. They'll try it once, and then either never touch it again, or whine for CCP to give them free ships to play around with.

Only one I see digging a hole is you dear. Keep whining that this kind of fight wouldn't be fair because you can't use gang-bang tactics. Really makes you look bad. As I said, this would be for pilots to pit their skills against other pilots. Pilots that think they have what it takes to make a name for themselves.

This isn't for someone that is too afraid to do this type of combat.

I don't think poker players should be executed for cheating, therefore I cheat at poker.

There could be more than one arena. Not just in high sec. Plus, as I said, this doesn't sound like your type of game play. It would be aimed at others that would like it. Not everyone likes mining. I suspect not everyone would participate in the tournaments either.

This would take out some of the sandbox nature of EVE if CCP implemented it. It makes the game put limits on what players can do, which goes against everything EVE stands for.

On the other hand, if a player organized this, that would be frickin' awesome. Player driven events are wonderful.
