Everyone has between 5,000 and 7,500 AUR already from EVE Is Real, so that's not much to complain about.

I really hope the marekting-guys @CCP get that people who already pay 1,2 or even more times for that game don't want to pay even more for some "DLC" features. Expanding the need for aurum only will lead to another shitstorm. But I think they are still recovering from the last one ...

Anyways. I really hope they don't remove all WIP stuff and just show us more of their plans. Even if they won't come with Inferno.

Welp I'll definitely be buying these new outfits,
So long as they don't continue to bug and tell me I need to put a top layer on when I am already wearing an outer layer

There should be a rather awesome pic here

Cosmetics are already NEX items. The main problem is that CCP needs to drastically reduce the prices or get rid of the store completely. I was only arguing for new cosmetics not being part of the default set.

Always fun to see whats on the test server.

As a suggestion, whenever the new clothing is released, I suggest you move what is currently in the "bottoms" area to the "outer" list. It would allow for styles such as this:

Personally I like this much better then with the accompanying shoulder piece.

Any updates on the underwear bug? I know it's a known bug that only effects the oldest characters and that it's been brought up in the past https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&m=894977#post894977 but you guys really need to fix it with all this new clothing coming out.

I thought you wanted to remove those clothes and not fix them so all colors show up like they should? Big smile

I tested the new clothes upon stumbling on them accidentally, and although they're very interesting, they left me wondering wether we'll see racial clothing in the future. I can't imagine an amarrian female wearing none of those, but further, one of the main issues with the avatar creator is that characters got (can get) a strong individuality, but their collective identity is null. There's now ay to tell what race is someone, which kind of detracts from the RPG element.

Well sure, but some of it ought to be. Don't you think?

Or do you think there should be no skin-tight clothing in the future?

Those do look awesome. Unfortunately, the character customization UI is already starting to break down due to item proliferation. It really doesn't make any sense from a UI design standpoint to show each recolor of a garment as a separate item. Not only is it hard to tell from the small icons what exact color a particular garment is, but it takes an awful lot of scrolling to go through all the available garments, and there is no easy way to tell at a glance which designs are available.

It would make a lot more sense if only the garment designs were displayed as discrete items. For example, instead of showing ten recolors of the same pair of boots, the item selection panel only showed that pair of boots in its default color. A player could choose a different color via a context menu, whether it be a popup, a slide-out panel, or a right-click menu.

It may also be a good idea to merge the NEX store and character customization. Players could be given the option of trying on different items, and buying them for AUR before moving on to the avatar/finalize stage. It is not always easy to justify sinking a month's subscription in ISK or cash on a virtual item that you can't even try on except by going to the test server. The idea is to separate a player from his cash as seamlessly as possible.

A big +1 for this, its what Uru / Myst Online did and worked well in most cases (in fact some clothing had two color selections to work with). One item did not allow it (the colorful jacket at the end of TPOTS), so I suspect the trick was through one or two extra texture layers that defined the tinting locations.

SL allowed this with just about everything - to the point where smart designers will supply their wares in grey tones and allow the wearer to re-tint as needed. I would buy things regularly in that format (or in one case, create my own). The reverse of that was There.com, which did not allow tinting (like NeX), and I tried to always make do with what I had or just not buy anything at all.

Eve-based example - I do like the corporate jacket in NeX (the one where it says you can have the sleeves embossed), but not its color (grey I believe). If I could get that tinted closer to goldenrod it would fit in-line with the character background.

I'm supposed to be on vacation this week (hah!), perhaps I'll spend the time to get some examples up. Had finally caved in once already within SL and ditched the original (2004) hair, since it was broken on newer viewers.

The cuff section on the new boots looks off to me. When you zoom in on them, you can see a gap of empty space between the character model and the cuff.

Highlighted the relevant part for you.

I suspect the proliferation of skin-tight stuff is due to it being easier to make/code ('cause the fabled Incarna 'clothing simulation' leaves a lot to be desired, to put it mildly).

I hope that it's actually referred to as the "Decency Check" in the code. Big smile

Not sure that this (full body shot) would count as "decent" anywhere outside of a nightclub, though. :P

That said, I am quite fond of the black skinsuit with gold trim. Oops (Pics: close-up, full-body)

I'd like to note that the above body suits are rather pleasant. Yet unfortunately the Asian bloodline characters seem to have a bra strap that runs over the shoulder as well as around the body.

The strap that runs over the shoulder clashes with the bodysuits whether you wear a bodysuit top or simply the bodysuit bottom & shoes.

It's a lot less black and white now as compared to pre-incarna avatars. It IS a lot more difficult to judge say who's gallente via the outlandish hair style or amarian due to the cyberknight with obvious head visor.

Yet do they all look the same? No. There is quite the startling quantity of ethnicity specific diversity represented across all the avatars of Eve. With a bit of practice you can fairly easily determine who's of which descent.

If you created a flashcard game with a guess the ethnic background goal, images flashed for 5 or so seconds in conjunction with ethnicity & bloodline tick button, you could probably get pretty good at it with a little practice.

This. The new clothes are all fine and surely have some dark science fiction look to them that really fits well into eve.
But...aren't we capsuleers supposed to be some kind of immortal demigods? Somehow I think that elegant business suits or heavily ornated robes would fit that theme much better... but maybe that's just me....

I'd like to apologize for the poor quality of the post above and sincerely hope you didn't waste your time reading it. Yes, I do feel bad about it.

IIRC 11ISK were a month payment for a mid-class worker.

Please, tell my bloodline without peeking my employment story nor cheating. You have 5 seconds. Lol

Obviously this is well past the 5 seconds time limit, but the shape of your avatar's eyes and skull (ed. - and skin tone) say "Khanid" regardless.

That sort of challenge works better when you give a random set of portraits without names. ;)

(Speaking of, feel free to guess mine with the same restrictions. I've had people get it wrong ingame.)

EDIT: More on-topic, I don't see a problem with the idea that people might have some trouble identifying what bloodline someone is without practice. Bloodline no longer has any measurable effect ingame beyond your sculpting mesh, and your race doesn't affect anything it didn't before (starter skills and standings, npc corps, default noobship, etc.), so at this point even your bloodline is merely a cosmetic choice.

Not to mention, that's sort of how it works in real life: if you take a couple average caucasians from various parts of Europe, the US and Canada, if none of them speak, and are all wearing similar clothing, you will probably be hard-pressed to figure out who's from where. Similarly for people from asian parts of the world, if you have a group of people from China, Japan and Korea that meet the same requirements (nobody talks, similar clothing), while you might be able to tell that they are not all from the same line of descent, it'll take practice and a trained eye to be able to tell who is who. (That wasn't intended to be racist, so if it comes across that way, I apologize.)

The same should be the case in EVE. Generally, most of the bloodlines are still pretty obvious after a little while. I can look at a portrait and tell which bloodline it is with almost perfect accuracy as long as it's not one of those hideous examples of the extremes you can reach with the editor (Large Collidable Object, for example). A little bit of practice and you will too. :)
