Not liking the items window changes

Ok looks like the ships, items and cargo hold windows have all been merged into a single window.

I like this in theory, but I would prefer if there were a way to have multiple inventory windows open at once.
Its an additional hassle if you want to transfer a fit from one ship to another.
Maybe do something like the show info tabs are now.

EDIT: OK just discovered the shift-click open feature.
It still doesn't resolve the whole closing of ship and hanger floor tabs.
Overall I don't see why the old system couldn't be augmented with the new features,
from my perspective they are 100% compatible.
Just slap the new tab on the existing windows.

If someone doesn't like the old system just leave one window open and problem solved.

I absolutely love it. It's the custom filters that have me sold.

I lied :o

I like that feature too.

Just want to have a ship window, a hanger window, and multiple cargo hold windows open at once.
All of which can have the custom filters and quick navigation tab.

Yeah, I'm still trying to decide if I like it or not. I did discover that you can shift+click (or right click and pick the option) to pop a window out and separate it. I'm still not sure if I'm sold yet though.

Yeah just discovered that little functionality too.

Thing is, I usually run with a hanger floor and ship selection window open when I'm in station

Its nice having that thing instantly there when i dock, without clicking.

It's now a annoyance rather than a major annoyance.

Would it be ideal if they kept the hanger interface the same way but augmented it with the search/filter stuff.
Or just put a check box in settings.

Shouldn't be all that hard, and everybody would be happy.

It's very confusing finding my ships is a pain in the a**.
Also draging items from one windows to another doesn't really work.

I prefer old style, but with filters.

Come on, give it 5 minutes and the confusion is gone.

There's a lot of awesome little things in it.

Only drawback for me is that the minimal size of the window in "compact mode" (with the sidebar hidden) is larger than the old one ( 30 more pixels lost to windows!).

It's also seems to be a bit messy when saving the kind of view you want (icons, text), as all inventory windows seem to get that style after docking.

i really like it.

However the main usability problem is:
- open multiple windows while docked
- undock
- all windows are now cargo windows

so you can't replicate old behavior with the new feature. There should be a way to tell the window to stay open only while docked and others only when in space. Looting stuff is also more work as before IMO.

how to fix eve: 1) remove ECM 2) rename dampeners to ECM 3) add new anti-drone ewar for caldari 4) give offgrid boosters ongrid combat value

Just noticed.
The right click ship -> open fuel bay
command is gone.

Bad form.

Overall I like the direction. However, it would be more useful if:

  • Ships, Items, and your Active Ship icons on the side panel were larger or clearer to discern than the rest of the icons in the panel. This facilitates quicker access to root directories and dragging items.
  • A double click should be the same as a shift-click in the side panel.
  • Breadcrumbs should be clickable; below the title bar.

This is my issue too. It seems to refuse to allow you to do anything but have one window for everything. I do like the look of it, it looks really slick and all, but I worry that it's at the expense of functionality (especially since it should be possible to retain much of the old functionality if done right).

I'm still on the fence about it. It looks nice, but it has become less functional for how I want to use the inventory.

Also, @Culmen, the Open Fuel bay is gone (as with open corp hangers and open drone bay and so forth) because it's now a nested storage inside the ship itself.

I realized that, but it's still some needless functionality loss.
The drone bay thing is particularly irksome, since you know have to navigate the cargo hold interface, if you want to change drone types for a mission.

If the inventory screen worked the same as the current corp hanger, there would be no problem. the problem is that the window is needlessly complex

double click to open in new window is missing thats for sure...

other than that its missing a REMEMBER STATE, when i undock it should save my docked state of my inventory windows, and close all but 1 of them for when im in space....

That said when i dock again it should remember my "space state" so that my nice small cargo window i have setup for my own cargo will be there when i undock again and not the big inventory window...

Implement the above changes and i believe most people will be estatic.

its not more complex, its just different.. the issue is the handling of the secondary windows (see my post above)

ya they really should bring back the shortcuts, just have it popup a minimum inventory window no sidebar of the designated location, fuel/corp/drones ... that would solve that issue, old functionality, with new inventory management features, with just some smart shortcuts in the right click menu

I miss the "ships" icon unless I am missing it. Don't want the extra step of opening inventory.

Sorry.

I've been a programmer/user/everything IT since 1981, and this new Inventory Window is the most unintuative piece of junk I have yet encountered outside of a DOS box. I am very used to plunging into new systems and screens and functions at the drop of a hat. It was my job.

Well, you guys have finally thrown me for a loop.

This is adding unnecessary complication where absolutely none was needed.

Its a parade of switching windows with none of the simple operability of the original.

I spent 20 minutes with it and really am still having a difficult time getting things set up and doing what I want...and then maintaining their state. Having to close windows in order to get to functions that open what I want. WAY too esoteric to explain in a thread what I am going through here, and I have followed the information gleaned from all of these posts. I would have to show you in person what I mean. That is not a good thing at all.

(Update) I especially did not like after getting the ship and inventory windows configured and positioned how I want, after having 'separated' them, I open cargo and in order to see it I have to re-expand the filter THEN open Cargo . This is turning into a worse Click-Fest than PI . (And I 'm not being cute there.).

And then it utterly changes in space!

None of this is correct at all.

This is truly not a system I am comfortable with. I'm for change, not complication.

Again, I am even further convinced that the folks developing all this new UI stuff DO NOT PLAY THE GAME.

You will never convince me that they do now especially.
