After reading the first paragraph of the dev blog, I was fully expecting the rest of it to describe how they banned the offender and then added a flat screen TV to the NEX store for the price of a real life flat screen TV.

I was pleasantly surprised to discover otherwise, but I'm still not renewing my subscription.

I feel like Ralphie after decoding the Ovaltine message ;-)

And the video thing is neat too, I'll have to try it out.

Wonderful, now if we could get some flash support and have the screen display our in game browser... Bam, youtube on the EVE screens, and im sure you could get it to stream to other players as well if they visit your captains quarters, or even station side bars. Really though, i've seen programs for multiplayer games that allow youtube to be broadcasted to multiple users, its not -terribly- hard, just might require a little work.

I've been doing this since it was first discovered, pointless but extremely fun. Really glad you're not disabling our ability to do this, and I think a lot more features could be added into the future, such as zooming in on the holographic display itself and being able to stream content. All local of course.

mind giving us an overview on the settings you use so we do not get bloated and corrupt files with proper audio synchronization?

"We see you do X so here's Y to make it legit and usable."

This is exactly the mentality people have been craving!

We need a lot more of it for FiS (blech ugly word) than we currently experience!

Thanks!

Would be good for CCP to add some of their proprietary videos as .bik downloads directly from eveonline.com - stuff from EVE Trailers to Dust 514 trailers...

Just a thought.

I don't know if I did this correctly.

My game is on my M drive.

I dropped the bik's into:

C:\Users\%Username%\AppData\Local\CCP\EVE\m_ccp_eve_tranquility\cache\CQScreenVideos

but all I get is sort of a "blank" screen. It looks like there may be a fog moving around the edges.

The default videos were playing before I dropped them in that folder. I restarted the game and now nothing is playing.

When I renamed the files with .bik.backup and restarted the game, the default videos started playing again.

I noticed there is a video>cq folder in the main game directory with a bunch of bik's so I renamed that folder, then created a new cq folder, dropping in my bik's and that didn't work either. The same default videos play. still.

"Sup Dawg, we heard you like screens, so we put a screen in your screen so you could view stuff in Eve while you view stuff in Eve!"

:-D

Also, this.

Just make it possible to display web sites on that thing and let us handle it from there.
3rd party developers would have a field day. Imagine live economic data from eve-central.. a customized subdomain to work with the small screen. Or what the guys at eve-kill could do with it.. or battleclinic.

First thing after logging in each time I'd turn the TV to the eve-kill channel and check for the latest kills in the constelation i'm currently in. Yep, I'd turn my CQ on for this.

Beyond that... I think I need Pink and the Brain cartoons playing in my CQ, along with classic Wile E. Coyote vrs Roadrunner. ^_^

That's more like it. Zulu: take notes.
Fun, lightweight blog, adding content without removing some, simple but elegant solution.

Now if only I could figure out how to do this on my Mac.....

For some of those having issues with choppy sound, are you doing conversions while you watch in CQ? My sound/video seems to do it when I have multiple conversions eating my CPU. Also, if you are using the /LUA:OFF switch(alot of client managers use this), the location of the files will be different.

One more note, the location of the cache varies slightly with the name of the logged in character as well.

For the mac users, a quick google provided this: http://www.bigasoft.com/articles/how-to-convert-bik-to-mp3-avi.html , which has a link to a mac version

Heh.

Players show you how easily one can manipulate your content and you first frown upon it then include it as a feature with a wee bit of looping code.

If you wan't to get serious about it then start coding the ability to "zoom in" on the screen to enlarge it and throw in the ability for you to stream select content to it (hint: Alliance Tournament, in-game ads).

In-game ads might make for extra revenue for CCP even, which might not be a bad thing Pirate

I got a video to work but the sound was slowed down slightly plus the sound/video had a slight skip or something to it occasionally.

I know nothing about A/V stuff but tried to convert YouTube stuff, supposedly either in flv/mp4 formats, to one of the formats that Bink can convert to bik but none of my attempts worked. I would get an error opening file message in Bink.

This would make CQ worth turning on at least some of the time. As at least one person already said, this is the way to roll. Take a non-game-breaking hack and make it available to everyone with a little extra TLC from you. Make Eve fun. Make Eve ours again. Well done.

I may not like you or your point of view but you have a right to voice it.

Please, somebody make a site where I can download EVE or other sci-fi related materials. And it should be the legal stuff.

They did that already. "Eve is real". Somebody's actually got their thinking caps on up there on the icey lands :-)

And... Considering how smart and computer savvy many Eve players are, it continues to astound me how clueless and narrowminded they are. Do you really think this was a bug in the first place? The only bug is that some ppl found out before CCP were ready to release it. If you've ever coded a piece of software from the ground up, you know that functionality doesn't pop up randomly.

tldr: It's been in the architecture all along. Now it's in the feature booklet.
