I'm going to be completely honest here, what's fun about Eve?

I've tried joining various groups here and there and while some were quite interesting to be around it didn't last forever. Eve seems incredibly complicated for me at least. Perhaps it is simply just not for me at all. However, I want to like it, no really I do! I like the ships and their designs, the vastness of space, and the various economies players set up. Yet Eve doesn't seem like a game you can sit back, relax, and enjoy.

I suppose for a game that is niche it is clearly only meant for a certain type of player. It does however have the absolutely worse pve I have ever seen in a game. I know that it wasn't meant to be a pve game, but the content here is in some places so atrociously bad that is literally painful to play it. It just isn't entertaining in the log run, nor fun to do over and over again. You go to a station and click on a box and up pops some out of date dialog window telling you how important something is. It doesn't matter though, and the mission isn't important as it is simply the equivalent of a daily mission you can do over and over for a reward. You get sent out into a space to enter a room filled with targets that you shoot again and again. I don't know how to improve the way missions are but they are so uninteresting. Maybe pve isn't the primary focus of Eve but if anything hopefully the missions will be getting a rework in the future (esp mining and distribution?).

Market trading, economies, industry are all spreadsheet related things I don't care for. Maybe the game could do a better job of including more features to help players out without requiring third party applications? I realize the community is very talented, but I could care less about setting up spreadsheets and complicated programs just to play a game. I really can't say much about this because I don't care for it honestly. Industry and building things is something I would like to do in Eve but yet it seems pointless as well to me. An that is because I have no idea why I would even want to bother getting good at this to make isk when I don't know what I would do with it.

The game is mainly about two things: pvp and the economy. But largely it comes down to pvp. I don't find pvp in Eve fun frankly and I'm not entirely sure why. Fitting ships, different ships to chose from, and building up your skills to do something is all fun. Yet, when it comes down to it there seems to be something lacking in ship vs ship combat. It seems too bland, while also being at the very same time fairly complicated. You don't simply fly to a ship, orbit, and press f1. You have to know the ships you are up against, the fittings they might use, the holes they have in their resists, and how to counter each situation. You also need to know when you simply not bother and not engage. That doesn't include managing range and your velocity in relation to theirs to do as optimal dps as you possibly can in your limited engagement window. In the end it seems far too punishing. You can not only lose your ship, but your whole fit, and even your pod including implants you might have had as well. So in the end I think that this is the major deal breaker for quite a few. Eve isn't a game where you can just lose your avatar over and over again and keep coming back and still do damage without having lost anything.

In other games you can be practically naked and still contribute in a fight. You can walk up to a fully armored player in pvp and knock them out and steal all their stuff while naked. Eve however isn't like that. You have to have isk and you have to be able to afford to lose it when buying ships. Those ships have to be fitted, and I can't simply knock out a ship and steal its cargo and fitting then laugh at it in jest. Eve kicks you in the nuts and laughs at you for playing it instead. And that is probably the one thing that isn't marketed about it: Eve is the Demon's Souls of mmo space games. It isn't supposed to be fun necessarily but hard. The players make that even harder as they have been here far longer than anyone just joining. I mean basically by joining the game and undocking you are opening up a world of hurt! The game also relies heavily on the players to pull others in, and one of the very first things they can be greeted with is a mining corporation in high sec.

Which leads me to the last thing. Everyone in Eve is fighting for the part of Eve that makes it fun for them. And pretty much all of those things revolve around wrecking other peoples dreams and ambitions. Eve isn't fun! You guys all suck! I hate you all!

If you can't lose anything meaningful and don't need a brain to win, success is of no value, then why bother playing? The constant competition against other players (and not scripted NPCs) make most of us stick here.

You're part of Pandemic Horde. Any argument you make about what is fun and what isn't is therefor invalid. How did they let you use the entire selection of keyboard keys aside F1 to type this is beyond me.

EVE isn't hard. It is tough to master, but not hard.

EVE is fun in the same way collecting stamps is fun. It's an hobby. A lifeless choice. And part of the fun in EVE is doing the things you want, when you want, and either progress of backtrack based on the decisions you make. Not finding PvP fun, as taboo as that topic might be, is perfectly valid, and the game is diverse enough to allow a selection of activities you might enjoy.

Leave Horde while you can. Enjoy the game.

EvE is fun when YOU are winning. But you're part of the McDonalds of EvE, so what the poster above me said. Learn to cook.

I only post here if EvE is offline. Which means my posts are never well timed.

So you're telling me that I joined another mining corporation which is masquerading as a nullsec power.

No. Stating facts isn't telling someone something. Your question is just oxymoronic given your in-game affiliation.

If you're referring to me however, nope. Contropotere.

Eve is boring. People arent. Well some are, they just sit there in Jita or wherever and blap silly people every now and again and watch, like the old man on the park bench feeding the pidgeons just Eve style with a gun shooting at the damn kids on your lawn, but others are entertaining in this ecosystem that Eve is. Vibrant, villainous and cutthroat. Everyone wants to stick their nose into everyone elses business and trust and information make the rocking world go round.... seeing as we dont really have any fat bottomed girls in game yet.Blink

Remember in Eve you are my...err... THE content.Twisted

Wont That be Fun?

Have you heard anything I've said?

You said it's all circling the drain, the whole universe. Right?

That's right.

So you suggest more nakedness can fix this game? Okay, I will make a software descrepancy report and ask for the ability of naked players walking up on other unsuspecting players so you can know them out and have your deprived ways with them, steal their stuff and walk away with it. I'm sure this will fix the problems EVE Online has.

I love you too, we'll pod, mkay.

For me, Eve is the meta game. At least half my play takes place outside the client - planning and preparation. There are connections and interdependencies with plans made by other players - CCPs job is to facilitate these interconnections without distorting them, not to entertain me. That is the essence of the sandbox.

I am an industrialist, my PVP arena is the market, which can be just as brutal as the battlefield. Eve has careers like diplomat and spy that have no associated game mechanics - they exist entirely in the meta. That's what keeps me and a lot of other people enthralled.

Eve is Twitter and Twitter is Eve to me now #tweetfleet

I find PI to be the most fun in the game and reading about the lore. I promise I'm fun at a party.

Eve is for those who enjoy a game where you CAN'T sit back and relax, at least if you expect to survive or succeed. This has been well known in the general gaming world for 13 years. You either have just recently hooked up to electricity and the internet or you are faking naivety.

I cant make any sense of this.

All I see, is contradictions piled on top of each other.

If this is how you organize your thoughts, Im not surprised you have difficulty deciding what you do/dont find fun in EVE.

I refuse to accept that. If Eve is truly a sandbox I wish to create a cozy little neck of the woods where I can carelessly sit back and relax in a big blinged out ship while laughing at you all.

What is the point of Eve? If Eve is a sandbox then the point should be relatively whatever I want it to be, within reason of course.

Perhaps, but if I DID pull it off it might infuriate at least one person. If so, then I would feel pretty good about pulling it off and it might lead to some game design changes.

You arent understanding.

He can create a cozy little neck of the woods where he can carelessly sit back and relax in a big blinged out ship while laughing at us all.

Nothing stops him from relaxing. Nothing stops him from flying a big bling shop. Nothing stops him laughing at us all.

But nobody said it would he safe.

Nothing stops us either from wrecking the hell out of his little cozy neck of the woods, his big bling ship, while he is relaxed and carelessly sitting back, while we laugh at him.

See?
