That person is a misogynist arse-hole, ignore people like that; Eve is for those that can survive here, regardless of their gender.

Shah Fluffer's jazzy voice thing is an injoke, people who play other games often regard Eve players as a little weird, we often play up to that image for giggles.

PvP is competing with other players, the most common form of it is shooting other people in the face. there are plenty of other forms, some of which are classed as PvE by others. PvE is technically you vs the environment, running missions against NPCs, mining etc; most of it is designed to encourage or fund PvP, and PvP will often find you while you're doing it.

New Citizens Q&A is the place to ask any questions that you may have, in here we won't troll you unless you deserve it and a lot of the people who post answers have years of ingame experience to share with you.

WGOE is an ingame chat channel, there's a fair few ladies that play Eve and as somewhat of a minority they tend to stick together.

It was also my first MMO and four years down the line it's still my only MMO.

My only previous gaming experiences were Elite (original Commodore 64 version), Homeworld 1, Homeworld 2 and several Homeworld-based mods.

Do girls rob, steal and plunder? Do they plot schemes and betrayal? Do they stomp their enemies into the ground while cutting a throat to deal with competition?

If you can answer any of those questions with: "*beep*, yes!", this might be a girls game.

Welcome to New Eden!

EvE was my first MMO style game too, and the only one I play till today. EvE has some unique value propositions you will not find elsewhere, like one single persistent universe where all players of the world and all play styles co-exist, depend on each other and interact. Also it's a sandbox with a lot of tools but very few (artificial) rules, there is no out-of-game matchmaking, but a well balanced ship collection and environmental obstacles acting as conflict drivers.

I'm my own NPC alt.

Almost home, will introduce myself P and help you out with what I can then. For now, will leave this here:

https://wiki.eveonline.com/en/wiki/WGoE

You are not alone.

In just the 5.5 years in EVE, I have played / encountered at least a dozen female gamers, some quite succesful and outspoken, others very relaxed and shy about it. So which ever asshat said to go play another game is part of the problem, a gamer = a gamer, where does the gender makes a difference in that?

Goodevening Tiffany.

Welcome to EVE. If you enjoy this game, say goodbye to your social life P.

Now, as for helping you, just ask away. The New Player Q&A is there for that sole reason, for new players like you (and others) to ask their questions and get them answered by us.

We are mainly a bunch of friendly people who like to help and assist new players with all their questions. But keep in mind, we ARE EVE players, so if you come across us in game, be on your guard. We won't hesitate to shoot you if you make yourself a target in any way. We only play nice (well, usually) on the forums.

As for some golden tips / rules in EVE:

1. Don't fly what you can't afford to lose. This includes: Ships, modules, cargo and implants.
2. If it sounds too good to be true, it generally is. Scamming, theft, etc. are all perfectly legal in EVE.
3. When in doubt, right click it.
4. Make friends (and enemies) with people. Be social, talk to people, talk to local, get involved with groups/communities.
5. Take everything people tell you with a bucket of salt. Even us here on the forums (it's always good to cross check replies and/or wait for others to reply too).
6. Take your time.
7. ENJOY the game.
8. Take a look at the sticky posts here on the NCQA forum, there are some very very helpful guides linked in them. And I love shah's thread on how us veterans started in EVE.
9. NEVER, EVER let someone else tell you how to play this game. It's your subscription, it's your free time, use it as you see fit. There is NO way to play EVE in a wrong way.
10. If it sounds interesting, try it out. It doesn't take max skills to try something, that last level 5 of a skill only helps slightly in most cases. Trainign up to level 3 or 4 is usually more then enough to try something out decently and see if you like it. Unlike most games, EVE doesn't have classes in the way that you are stuck with it. The ship you use defines your class.
11. Ships in EVE are tools, as are the modules fitted. There is no real "Jack of all trades" ships. Pick a ship, utilize it's strengths and use it for 1 thing. Don't try to build a swiss army knife when you can have a whole toolbox with dedicated tools.
12. Don't dual tank (Shield OR armor, not both) and don't dual gun (1 type of gun, and then all of the same).
13. EVE in it's core is a PvP game (PvP = Player vs Player), thus NO place in space is safe. High-sec (1.0 - 0.5) is slightly safer then low-sec (0.1 - 0.4) and null-sec (-1.0 - 0.0). Nothing stops anybody from shooting you anywhere. Why, well "Just cause I can" is reason enough in EVE. Only in high-sec there is your EVE-Police called CONCORD, they will punish but they won't protect (like the real police too)

7 is one of the most important ones.
And of course: Ask questions.

Ask them here, ask them in game (plenty of the regulars you will see here won't mind if you EVEmail them or start a conversation with them).

And if you ever want to get into contact with your fellow female gamers, as linked above by me. Read the link and join their public chat and ask for moderators to help you get in the real channel.

Hello Tiffany, I am Ace, I am also from Australia, glad to see in New Eden, and EVE was my first game too, so don't worry, I understand what your going through, was the same for me when I joined 8 months ago, tell you what, I will be online tonight around 8PM till about 3 hours after DT, so for about 6 hours tonight, and if you want, you can ask anything and everything, if you can, download TeamSpeak 3, and tonight I will give you the info for Spectre Fleet's comm's, and I can talk you through anything and everything PvP or PvE, and all the basic mechanics, add me in game and make sure you tick Watch List, it will send you a notification when I am online.

Till then fly safe and hope to talk to you soon! (And get you in one my fleets and kill peoples!)

P.S. If you want we can go gank the guy who messaged you! :D

Hi Ace,

I didn't think anyone would reply lol.

I'm happy to meet someone that is from Australia too! I am Queensland time but I will get into the game when I finish work.

I will need to find out what DT, Team speak, Spectre, pvp, pve all mean. Oh and Gank. So I will get back to you once I have googled all of that :)

I am not sure how to add people in the game yet or where my watch list is so I will work on that one too.

DT: Down-time. Happens daily at 11:00 EVEtime (the clock in the lower left corner of your Neocom menu) - which happens to be GMT (the timezone Iceland is in).

Teamspeak: 3rd party VoIP program that let's you talk to people instead of text chat. Essential in some cases in EVE, for instance PvP. Telling someone to shoot something is easier and quicker then to type it out.

Spectre: One of the many public fleets in EVE. They do PvP fleets very often. Check them out if PvP is something you like. Also a nice starter for PvP as a new players are: Agony Unleashed classes or the Newbro roams hosted by Redemption Road.

PvP: Player vs Player. In general people mean PvP as in ship vs ship combat. But PvP in EVE comes in many forms. If you are a trader, you are directly competing with other players, so even the market is a form of PvP.

PvE: Player vs Enviroment. So anything where you are fighting "the game". Missions for instance let's you fight computer A.I. and not other players (directly). Mining makes you shoot asteroids instead of players.

Gank: Short explaination (as I guess there already will be others that explained it even further), a form of PvP. You take your combat ship and (usually quickly) kill a player who isn't set up for PvP. Happens most often / only in high-sec.

DT = Down time. It's when CCP shuts down the game for about 15 minutes or so every day at I think 11:00 am GMT without using DST. GMT is Greenwich mean time also know as UTC.

Team speak is an audio chat app for groups. It is used in MMOs alot for coordinating group efforts. Like fleet ops in this game or raids in other games or battlefields etc... anything where groups of people need to operate and have "comms" while playing.

Spectre fleet is an NPSI (Not Purple Shoot It ) group that does public roams and shoots anyone not in fleet.

Gank just means you are going to go blow up the guy that said that to you regardless of what concord thinks about the interaction.

Hello, ok so I need to know this game like you do! lol

I don't think I can use Team speak then because I don't have a phone that uses apps?

Spectre people are the bad guys in the game then?

Ok I understand Gank now but I don't know his name any more and I would feel bad if we killed his ship though. From what I have read it takes lots to get good ships and stuff and I will just ignore those people so it's ok :)

Teamspeak is not a phone app. It's a program you install on your PC (though there is a smartphone app too for it).

In EVE, there is no good and bad. Each player is given a sandbox (EVE) and tools (your imagination), now go out and play.
Some people will hate other people (Grrr Goons, Grrr CODE., Grrr Russians, Grrr [insert name of player / corp / alliance / community] Big smileBig smile) while others like them and the other way around.

It depends who you fly with, what you like to do etc. on who you will class as a "bad guy" and a "good guy".

It's just an EVE thing, you will start seeing it after a bit, don't worry about it, people thought I was a troll when I first started, it happens to a lot of people, if you know to much about the game (I read up for months before I started, so I new a bit for a newbie), people who don't know anything at all, just takes time, you will do fine, just focus on learning the game, and having fun, and don't listen to the negative, and you will be fine :)

Oh, reminds me, are you NT side of QLD? Or the East Coast? Just trying to work out when I have to get dinner cooked by, haha!

@Tiffany:

Just a friendly reminder, this game is SO big, nobody will have perfect knowledge about everything.

I (if I can judge myself) have a decent amount of knowledge about a couple of things, but there are many things that I do not know.

Don't ask me anything about probing or wormholes, I tried that when I started, didn't like it and thus never experienced it or gained knowledge about how that works.

And even I, after 5.5 years, will still learn new things every time and even if you finally understand something, CCP will likely change the game mechanics and you are back at square 1.

probably. lol.

Ok, to edit a post, you can go back to it, on page one, there is an "Edit" button next to the quote. Click that, then backspace through whatever you don't want to say.

As a forum courtesy, it is nice to put an "edit note" at the bottom, especially after you have already been replied to. This helps new readers who might be confused when followup posts refer to something that you said, that they didn't see in your post. This is why, usually you don't want to edit a post someone replied to. Also, editing your post doesn't edit the reply quote in someone else's post.

Example edit note:
edit - grammar and math fixes.

Anything you say online stays there forever. So someone can shift through your lifetime of posts and usually build a pretty accurate profile. Of course linking character names, and forum nicknames shouldn't be possible. But I was rudely surprised by someone I knew and hadn't spoken to in 20 years when he tracked me down to a public forum. One which I never used my name or private info.

My choice of pronouns is based on your avatar. Even if I know what is behind the avatar.

Ok so now that I understand a bit more (thanks to Ace Lapointe who helped my on Teamspeakers last night).

I gather Sol is a person and this person is a troller? Also I have been referred to as a few different things in my life but troll bait is a new one, I still don't quite get that one if someone wants to explain it.

Did I do something wrong?
