You know it's funny...

My friend is a console gamer and he was the first one to tell me about Dust 514 and how cool it all sounded. Needless to say he's pretty excited for it, and in all honesty even though I'd prefer it on PC, I'm glad it's on console because it means I get to play it with my friends (Who are mostly console gamers).

But than again I've never judged a game on its platform, I judge the game on... well the game. As a gamer I own a range of systems because I wanted the games on them, no other reason. I can understand the fanboyism but it really doesn't make much sense to me.

I do understand the anger if you don't have a PS3, but you can't please everyone. If it's a PC exclusive then you upset those without a decent PC, if it's 360 exclusive then you upset those with a PC/PS3. Ideally it would be on all three platforms but it isn't, that's how it is and it's too late to change that now.
All you can do is hope that's it only a PS3 exclusive on release and that further down the line it'll be cross platform, which is entirely possible.

That's not going to happen. It's a PS3 exclusive because Sony allows CCP to do their magic on the online factor w/o limits nor taking their technology from them. Microsoft was completely out of tune with what CCP wants to do.

Also i am seeing some shortsightedness all around. As far as I know, if PS4 gets out (and let me call that an "IF"), then the existing 55 million PS3 will not vanish into thin air. So DUST's PS3 players will keep using their good ole PS3 to keep playing the game they like. The good thing with consoles is that if it works, then it will keep working until hardware failure. And hardware is quite a beast; 8 years is a good life expectancy to any industry standard hardware (bear in mind these machines are "consumers of 60 buck games", nobody wants them to break apart midways).

Also, as someone has pointed out, consoles themselves are in dire straits; PC has blasted them out of the technology race, portable gaming is eating their market cuota and they still haven't jumped on the online train (which is why there's some industry interest with DUST 514).

DUST may float or sink, but so far is one of the most exciting things going on in the console industry. And, BTW, PS3 players are absolutely loving DUST 514 and waiting to give it a try.

You DO realize that a fair sized percentage of current EVE players have played WOW at some point right?

Or that most people that play computer games also have game consoles in the home (myself included).

You are (arguably) worse than I am at going off on a rant. Relax big guy. Smile

Dude, you know what I mean...

I've played WoW for 2 years as well (then quit), you know what type of WoW player I am talking about...

I am talking about those people that ONLY play WoW, and that think WoW is God's gift to gaming, and they see nothing but WoW.

That's how console FPS players will be with Dust...
They will expect another brainless shooter like COD, and when they get a deep, challenging, complex game, they will just go like DERP<.> and go back to COD.

People here seem to think that I want Dust to fail, on the ******* contrary, I want it to succeed, so that CCP will get enough money to MAYBE, just MAYBE also make it for the PC...

However, based on my experience in gaming, and the gaming industry in general, I can't help but see that Dust on consoles will be like advanced mathematics in kindergarten, the players will be overwhelmed and they won't want to play it, when there are easier, more rewarding and established games out there.

Inappropriate signature, CCP Phantom.

You must have a very narrow gaming experience if you only play PC. So your inexperience with other platforms is clearly highlighted in your bland stereo-typical responses about consoles players.

Whatever...

Expect an *I told you so* thread from me in about 1 year, when Dust will have failed horribly.

Mark the date and my words in the calendar.

I've been gaming since the eighties, I think I know what the **** I am on about, this is not my first game, and certainly not my first MMO, and I have a freaking lot of insider information about the industry .

I've seen many similar cases like Dust in the past, where an overambitious developer managed to **** all over a potential success by being unrealistic and overambitious.

The thread I will make in about one year (or less) will be titled *Dust died in a fire, I told you so!* and will link to this post, and your faces will fall off as you see that everything I ranted about here turned out to be correct, and you clueless gits turned out to be wrong and overconfident.

A line for the ages:

Don't **** with Freeze's predictions, the guy knows some **** you never have and never will.

I think you are selling FPS'ers short. Yes there is some truth to the simplicity argument. Yes a lot of FPS'ers want fast and easy game play. ...but as a guy who has played a HELL of a lot of Halo (I mean well over 6000 games of Halo 2 alone) I can tell you that a LOT of us spend a lot of time in the lobby going over game stats, and frequent the website to see other stats, etc... I think there's a real draw to making things more persistent. It's an attractive feature. ...and I think FPS players are really going to dig it. The critical point is the lobby and how fast you can get a game without HAVING to do a lot of BS. If you can just have a set of fits you use and jump into a match it's not too complex. Regardless of how deep the game play is or the fitting options or the number of modules, etc... if that other smack is optional and it doesn't interfere w/ someone just turning on the system, jumping into a few games, and going on about their day, than it's not too complex. The people I play halo with have spent countless hours building custom maps in the Forge and tweaked every stat to their liking. There's a lot of Halo players out there who spend a lot of time in the game not shooting faces. There is breadth to the FPS community. It's not all the same guy. Just like EvE has miners, pirates, alliance-types, mission runners, and ninja salvagers etc... FPS has a big swath of different player types, though the nuances of those differences might seem more subtle to the uninitiated. If the game play is solid and fun, and it's easy to get a game, CCP with have captured the entire FPS community. As compromises are made on what I posted about earlier, CCP will see it's potential FPS player market narrow.

I have a question for you: Are you an investor (and no, I'm not talking about your measly sub), or otherwise invested in CCP's business to such a degree that would warrant even considering a response to your nosy questions? If not, then as a player, you shouldn't even have wet dreams of having any of these questions answered. If I were in charge over at CCP HQ, I'd be laughing that you even sent them over. I mean, who do you think you are to demand they be answered? Do you expect this with EVERY game you play? Seriously, some people's kids...

You, me and everybody in New Eden has invested something more valuable than the Queen's jewels into this game:

Time.

The questions are justified; even if someone like you doesn't believe they deserve an answer, they certainly deserve to be asked.

Their inability to answer them is not my problem, but it does show that for a games company to be considered as a 'global player' I would have thought the answers to these questions would not be a problem.

They "did" have one thing that CCP usually doesn't get into, really cool TV ads.

Although with Sony's influence at work, perhaps we WILL see that with DUST. I rather hope so.

That being said, there seems to be a huge amount of word of mouth interest in DUST on the gaming web sites, and that has value as well.

Fair point. I am expecting that Sony will have a reasonable marketing push behind this as well, as it is a unique new concept and being a market leader on this would be valuable for them.

Thats scary what someone said about halos development team because I was thinking almost the same thing. Now this is 'Big gaming news' well before the release whats to stop all the big name FPS's just bolting on a quick persistance feature to there games and reselling as 'game mk+1'. I reckon it would be a lot quicker to develop the persistance aspect of the game than develop ground up as CCP have had to. They also wouldn't have to deal with all the intergration problems of PC's consoles working together ( only been done once AFAIK 'shadowrun' for xbox, and that was dire ) and Dust hasn't even entered Beta yet, we will see how many delays that brings. If CCP make 'persistant fps' the new buzzword then it won't be long before everyone is jumping on the bandwagon and proberbaly doing it better as 1. they are already far progressed in the development of there IP 2. They already have a full working FPS game 3. They are specialised to the market and commited and focused while CCP's interests are split.

Given the 'heat' of this thread I'm sure enough people will disagree, so please flame away I'm not some dumb troll and vunrable to fire Roll

Well.. GOOD! CCP will be properly motivated to keep the game awesome than. Competition is good. The more companies making great games the better.
