OMG I just realized. People are thinking this will bring back convoys.

It will.

FAST IN WARP NANO REMOTE REP CARRIER Convoys. Convoys chocked full of supplies yet unbreakable except for with super caps that the 'little alliances' don't have., WAY safer than the freighter convoys of the past (freighters can't remote rep each others or refit off each other(. Who needs an escort when you can have one guy triage and the rest drop fighter after fighter, sentry after sentry?

We gonna emergent all over your gameplay :)

Is this riskier than just jumping like a frog all around the place (at downtime ofc) and nobody can even take a peek?

If yes, then it's better. If not enough, just nerf the hell of it till it becomes.

I thought you could already do this (jump while in gate cloak)?

I asked a JF pilot and he said no. Maybe he was mistaken though.

Could CCP create a second class of jump freighter that only has a SMB of 1,000,000m3 to replace the logistical side of carriers. Right now the most efficient way of movie to deep null is to carrier your ships out. If that can no longer happen there needs to be some other way besides flying each ship out or destroying rigs to repackage. Otherwise nobody will ever move out to deep null due to the time it would take to move even a basic kit of ships.

Seriously CCP, this "jump fatigue" seems similar to the very old days when humanity needed to switch horses multiple times a day to be able to just communicate a message somewhere. It is just that you, CCP, considered that it is the rider who must be switched and not the horse. THIS IS RIDICULOUS...

It would be more logical if it was some sort of "Engine Fatigue". For exemple, the engines can't support more than 3 or 4 jumps a day before entering into cooldown for XX hours. Or instead of a jump limitation, you would just raise up the fuel requirement between each jump by XX % until the player have no choice than change for an another "horse" or wait a cooldown timer (it could become an ISK faucet this way). Of course, the ship can't be repackaged until then.

While the range reduction is not a bad thing, the actual "jump fatigue" is BS. Change it or raise up the decay...

Removing obsolete signature... You just lost time to read that =)

Am I reading it correctly in that I could jump a carrier 5ly, wait 6 minutes or so, and then be completely reset? Then jump again, wait another 6 minutes or so and be reset again. Rinse and repeat?

No, fatigue takes 10x longer than cooldown to decay, so while cooldown will be ~5-6min, fatigue will be close to an hour.

Problem here is that there are things that null cannot get locally and stuff that high sec cannot get locally. Trade still needs to happen, neither can be totally self sufficient.

This is true. Logistics will still happen it just wont be Fedex overnight. It will be more like US Postal Service 3-5 business days delivery.

I dont like it because the only reason I ever got a carrier was to move my ships easier when going on a deployment or such. Now that I will not have any reason to ever bother jumping a Capital ship again I really want all those skill points back for the jump skills.

I said mainly.

I do feel your pain on the logistics side of things...its the only reason I use capitals as well, but I am a nobody solo lowsec player.

Counter-proposal, instead of going after jumpdrives, change the cynomechanics;

Cynos can only be lit within 150km of a stargate but no closer than 30km, covert cynos exempt.

Only one cyno can be active in a system at any one time, covert cynos exempt. (Or possibly one per constellation.)

Module tiericide has already begun. Introduce new cynosural field generators with different combinations of range, LO consumption, cycle-times and/or mass limitations.

Alternatively, move cynosural field generators over to deployables with anchoring timers to pretty much remove non-blops hotdrops.

Keep the capitals can use gates change, because it will be awesome.

(If you really wanted to sow some chaos and see some capital wrecks you could remove the fleet-limitation on cynos, letting anyone jump to any lit beacon within range. See how long people will use their big toys for pranks in lowsec and shallow null then.)

To everyone posting about the excessive length of time it will take to get from "A" to "B"....that's the point!

Back in the olden days we didn't have these fancy Jump Freighters and yet Moon Goo still made its way to Jita and supplies found their way back to our AO, magic? you ask, Neh say I, we flew ships through GATES laden with the spoils of our victories and returned with the riches of the new world...every week. And we did it as a group, no longer will the poor logistics officer suffer his weekly shopping trip buying the trinkets and tassles the ungrateful minions need, now everyone will participate in ensuring the safe passage of our ill gotten gains or next week there will be no fleet of Harpies to sting the enemies waiting at our door.

So, you just said that you know your plan won't work, but you're going through with it anyway.

I think he said jumping 20 titans to a gate is a bad idea. If this is the only way you can figure out how to engage an enemy (20+ titans) then YOUR gameplan won't work.

I too want to see the return of freighter escort and freight piracy.

But maybe give us a new capital super-freighter to make it worth the while? We can even have freight escort strat ops!

(don't mind me, I'm one of those noobs who still thinks that shooting towers is fun)

@CCP Greyscale

You said earlier that fatigue modifiers were already possible in the code but I think a ton of people would be happy with a sliding scale based on ship sizes with a few special case exceptions:

0.10 : JF, Rorqual, Blockade Runner
0.20 : Frigate, Noob Ships
0.25 : Blackops BS, Cloaky Recons, Cloak Sub t3 (maybe start all Cloaky ships higher (.4?) and have a ~7.5% reduction by skill level in Recon, t3 offensive, blops skill)
0.30 : Destroyers
0.40 : Cruiser, Non-Cloaky T3
0.50 : Battlecruiser
0.70 : Battleship, Freighter
0.85 : Carrier
0.90 : Dread
1.00 : Super
1.10 : Titan

This would make it easy to quickly get your frigates deployed, then cruisers, then then fights would escalate progressively. Also, a sliding scale could work to stratify Carriers, Dreads, Supers, Titans and promote natural fight escalations.

Good changes, glad you're making this so open for discussion. I hope you make it as far as my post!

I slept on it and I think that CCP's focus on solving the challenge of force projection is on the wrong part of the over all problem.

Punishing people for jumping ships around space in search of enjoyment shouldn't be the focal point of reducing force projection.

In my opinion the cyno mechanic should be the focal point. After all this is what makes it possible to jump capitals around our fictitious universe.

By changing the ease by which a cyno can be deployed this will affect the ease to which a force can projected across the universe .

I worry that by imposing a "time bound" penalty to a branch of the game that has always been about the "sandbox" and the" immediate enjoyment" you will push Eve down a path where it will lose its identity as one of the best MMORPG's in the world.

Focus on the cyno step of jumping ships and this opens up an array of avenues from specific cyno ships, modules, fleet roles, limitations and certain requirements.

Cyno-ing requires 5 days with a new character and that pilot can cyno an entire fleet into a system with next to no difficulty. Personally this is part of the act of force projection that should be the focus, not the punishment to a pilot of jumping his/her ship around space in search for fun.
