Just posting about the Golem thus far;

A) CCP, if you are going to do a revamp of the Raven hull for the Golem, can you PLEASE consider altering/removing the "forecastle" on the Starboard side? Modifying it to look more like the Tengu's "bridge" with any of the engineering systems would better reflect the lines of the Raven's Hull.

B) Bent the wings on the Hull,.. which I'm not opposed to,.. the thrusters at the tips of the wings should be addressed, they look as though they're stuck at the "old" angle. Also,.. the thruster and sensor bitz under the starboard wing have been given some anti-love. If you could try to incorporate as much of the "old" bitz under that starboard side,.. that would be great. The Port side looks,.. flimsy in comparison, it always was the "little brother", but now it appears to be more the "red-haired-step-child" , mayhaps some bulking up under the wing much like the starboard side gets?

C) MIssile Launcher placement - can we somehow put them on the "bastion bitz" at all? At least keep them on the "hull" like they were for the "old" Golem? The placement of the two that follow the lines of the "main spires" are wonderful, perhaps putting the other two just behind the "caution tape" along the same axis?

D) Bastion Mode - Uh,.. I was kinda hopin' for a little more,.. I dunno,.. pizzazz? The initial pitch on this transformation had a diagram that I swear resembled Macross, ergo I was assuming some SERIOUS transforming? It looks like you've attached four Motorola Razors to the hull and moved on?! I didn't even notice the 4 new black "boxes" until I hit the bastion module, and while I get the placement and that asking for Hasbro-like complexity is over the top, I would rather see the panels slide out perpendicular to the surrounding hull and have glowing techniture about it, then having the 4 just flip out. I don't know if it's just me, but there's more "umpft" to having it slide out,.. rather than just flip open.

E) I saved the best for last,.. the new GOLEM "Prow",.. uh,.. why you do this?! I like the underside builk,.. and perahaps even a little of the new side dynamics,.. but the prow,.. leave the "beak" alone,.. The current ineration of the Raven hull was what convinced me to finally leave my Tengu, don't mess with a good thing! I'm not saying all of it is bad,.. Heck I wouldn't mind the new "hammerhead" mounted under the neck of the current Raven Prow,.. just,.. don't leave it like it is on SiSi.

I don't say this very often lately with CCP's graphical changes, but the Marauder Bastion "transformation" is boring. It can hardly be called a "transformation". It is just a set of little flaps opening up on both ships it has been implemented on. It seems like some modeler took 20 minutes out of his day to move some vertices into an animation and slap it on an instruction set tied to the module activating.

This implementation is lazy, and not what I expect to see from CCP and is not in line with the rest of the great visual changes coming to eve. To be honest, I would like to see these animations redone to impact the model of the ship more, or be tossed out all together for another Triage-like visual effect on the ship.

Zooming on your ship when exiting warp is very disorientating, and i cannot for the life of me see why anyone would want this in actual gameplay. I zoom out my camera to a certain distance because that's the distance i want to view the theater from, and i did so very much intentionally. To have the game zoom in close when i'm landing on grid is incredibly inconvenient, and it delays my decision making, having to zoom back out each time.

The massive info popups are obstructive and redundant. They could only ever be helpful to very new players, and even so, their helpfulness is extremely limited. Remove them completely, or give an option to turn them off.

The zooming is already confirmed as a bug, you camera will zoom automatically when any ship warps in, yours included.

As long as you're removing a high slot from the Malediction, can you change which of the hardpoint locations get used? Now when I fit three launchers to the ship, there are two on each side and one each on the top/bottom in a very unbalanced sort of fashion. Trade one of the side locations for that now-missing top/bottom location and it would be lovely.

I've made a video showing the new bubble graphics.
First of all it looks very nice! GJ!

2 comments:
1) You will note a weird effect with the background. Due to the more subtle bubble effect the low-paralaxe background now appears to be in the foreground when flying inside the bubble. That is irritating.

2) The less whirly, less dynamic appearance of the bubbles nerfs the confusing effect for trapped victims considerably. I think that is a shame since the confusion effect was a nice use of graphics to implement game mechanics. With the new effect the graphics are just (nice) decorations.

Cheers, Chira.

I'm getting a really annoying camera reset occur spontaneously for no reason. I think it happens each time missiles are launched.

Also, I have noticed some spread in the impact of hits, is that new? Because I like it.

Hi, thanks for the comments, regarding point 1, in your video I can still see alot of parallax between the blueish effects and the nebula itself. Please let me know if you're talking about something else.

When it comes to item number 2, good point but the overall idea was to have a less hectic effect.

Cheers

The other, stickied thread notes that the camera resetting happens every time something new comes on-grid. Missiles being launched puts new objects onto the grid.

amazing. inties really give you that sense of speed now. i disagree with you about the confusing aspect of bubble...it's easy to tell difference between foreground and background

Yes, there is a lot of parallax between the two layers, that is ok. Nevertheless to me it looks as if the background would be in front. It is ok if there is only the normal starfield in the background, but with the nebula (look around 1:56) my brain goes "uups". Maybe if you layer a rippling effects that slightly distorts the background, the effect is rectified again.
Cannot really describe it better. Sorry.

I can train my brain to get it right, though :)

Less hectic is of course a game design decision. I liked the disorientation induction Twisted

Thanks, Chira.

bubbles look awesome now. However its still hard to see if you are inside or outside the bubble. Would be nice to have an indicator for it or even a graphical effect. (i remember "nexus the jupiter incident" had an effect on the ship hull when you passed through the barrier.)

how to fix eve: 1) remove ECM 2) rename dampeners to ECM 3) add new anti-drone ewar for caldari 4) give offgrid boosters ongrid combat value

PI doesn't work for me. Screen flickers a second but nothing happens, i still see the ship but camera control is gone which made me to restart the client.

YESSSS ah gad lemme gush here about how my wildest dreams have come true with the nighthawk model change

undocking this has brought back nostalgia so strong it's hitting me harder than Solid Snake's return to Shadow Moses Island...

I'm more than happy for future players who will have the option of transitioning from their mission drake to the nighthawk

and good grief, that ferox hull looks like a face-heavy pinched-off loaf

The Eos is looking ******* fantastic! Might even have to buy one on TQ for spinning. Just can't stop looking at it!

When I tried out the Bastion module on the Kronos, I honestly didn't even notice the model change. I had to buy a new one and undock just to look at the effect. It was sort of cool, but then again, I didn't even notice at first.

I also like the mastery icon on the ships, however the content is kind of strange. Micro Jump Drive Operation on a cruiser?

Does the glowy stuff inside bubbles gank low-end hardware as thoroughly as floating clouds in sites do?
