Why would you pick one race?

Support skills cover all races.
Generic gunnery skills cover amar, gal, minmatar.
Basic drone skills cover most races.

Getting into a BC takes no time.

Only 1 race matter.

Go and work for CCP and fly Jovian.

Real answer, if I would start again, I would again stick with Caldari (Missile line) ships as they are very good at PvE (Drake, Tengu, Navy Raven) and also can stand their ground in PvP (Drake, Kestrel, Manticore).

If you are looking for fast results, Minmatar. They are quite robust but get you into and out of trouble fast.
If you are going to spend some time on support skills also, then Gallente the domi is the unsung warturd of pve.
If for whatever reason you like missile, (and some people do) then train Caldari.

It's all about style, find your style the rest will follow.

Me I like them all, but I've been stalking New Eden forever.

Depends on what you consider pve... and what u consider pvp...

I would definitely look into amarr if i were you. Probably best balanced race. And Em/thermal is good damage type...

I.

Edit:

You mite want to train race called "tengu" as well and be like any other fotm kid on the block, because u know what they saaay -> "there is TENGU for everything" Idea

Gallente I'd say is a great pve and pvp choice. PvE you have solid options with drones, with the Vexor, Myrm and Domi but the hybrid boats do make for some good pve (Thorax, Brutix and Mega) if your training is leaning towards hitting pvp faster.

As for PvP itself, the Tristan and Incursus are solid choices, the Cat ain't bad. The Thorax is damn fun, while with the Dual Rep Brutix or even the Triple Rep Myrm, you have options on the larger boats to. T2 the Enyo is pure fun on a stick.

So consider Gallente.

Whats a decent and cheap setup for a pvp Incursus? I've been thinking of taking one out and trying pvp for the first time. I know I'll die a bunch, but I Just want to get out there!

I don't have millions of isk to spend yet on ships I know I'm going to lose.

Have a look here, this only works against other frigates but if you do it right you'll **** them, it NEEDS T2 guns and Null ammo. All you need to do is set your "keep at range" button to 5000m and hit it as you engage another frigate. You're low on tank but at 5km normal frigs (not counting missile ships obviously) frigs do crap dps and by the time they realise they need to switch ammo (if they even brought it) the outcome is already a done deal.

[Incursus, PVP]
Damage Control II
Overdrive Injector System II

1MN Afterburner II
J5b Phased Prototype Warp Scrambler I
X5 Prototype Engine Enervator

Light Neutron Blaster II, Null S
Light Neutron Blaster II, Null S
Light Neutron Blaster II, Null S

[empty rig slot]
Small Hybrid Burst Aerator I
Small Hybrid Collision Accelerator I

Hobgoblin II x1

Those guns are 2 million a pop. Considering I myself am going to get destroyed constantly, thats 6 million isk per ship, looking at just guns alone. Is tech II the only way to go?

2 mil each is way too expensive, shop around. Still, a fit is about strategy and this strategy is about kiting within scram range and thus it requires null ammo which means T2 guns. If you forego on T2 guns and ammo that means you can't do the kiting strategy which means you have to add more tank, the problem is that an incursus can't really fit a tank of note and suddenly stops being awesome unless you start adding rigs which up the price more. The incursus doesn't do "lets tank and duke it out", for that you might be better off with a Tristan but downside to that one is its split weapon system.

Honestly, I'd pony up a little and use that incursus fit because against normal frigs (and some faction ones as well) you'll win 4 out of 5 matches (not counting kestrels, merlins and T2 pulse fitted Punishers). Given that most ppl fly rifters you just KNOW you can pull the range game on them as you're faster, especially if they're MWD fit, so against most frigs it's a "sure win", or rather; against most pilots it is.

Excellence is not a skill, it's an attitude.
