If you are from the USA you are subject to those laws even when visiting another country.

Its in the passport information when you go to get one.

Somebody quote the federal law making it illegal to make fun of stupid people.

This COULD be a huge issue for CCP. There are US congress people looking for any reason to shut down or regulate the video game industry. Things like this just add fuel to their fire.

You do understand that the USA could simply ban CCP from selling EVE in America correct? You do understand that is something that is not out of the realm of possiblilities if one of these anti-video game people pick this up and run with it. Cyber - Bulling is a huge issue here in the states. I disagree as I think bullying is just human nature but that is not the point.

I think you idiots need to understand how much of an issue this could really be. This is much more then some simple comment made by an idiot. This could be the issue that starts the ball rolling for the anit video game people.

I do not think it will get that big but that is the issue here. Not so much how stupid the comment was, or how wrong it is to try and push someone over the edge and kill themselves but the fact that this is the kind of ammo these anti video game people are waiting for.

What would you idiot goons do if the USA ban's EVE in the USA? How much crying would there be?

This is the worst case but it could happen and their are people waiting for just these kind of things to happen, so they can grab and run around saying "I told you so, I told you video games are evil."

I would like to call for the resignation of “The Mittani” in regards to his complete misconduct during the Fanfest 2012 Alliance Panel. Per CSM Representative Conduct article of the Council of Stellar Management, all active CSMs are bound to abide by EULA and TOS and are subject to immediate dismissal and permanent exclusion regardless of infraction. As the representative of the best of the EVE players, more stringent stance is given as they are “expected to uphold the social contract that all society members are held accountable to, but should also set a behavior standard for everyone else to follow.”

For those who are unfamiliar with The Mittani’s misconduct, please refer to the link where he knowingly encouraged thousands of potential Fanfest viewers to send mails to an EVE player who has exhibited a history of mental instability, to provoke him to commit suicide.

CSMs are elected to exhibit the best of their behaviors, may it be in drinking, partying, or playing EVE, but knowingly encouraging other players to take part in a possible suicide of a player in front of thousands of EVE and non-EVE audiences crosses boundaries.

When asked to answer for his misconduct, he only gave a nonchalant answer. He should have been begging on his knees, apologizing for his childish behavior. If a no-name player like me incites thousands of EVE Online players to partake in an act to provoke a mentally unstable person to commit suicide, I would have been banned by CCP without question. By the tone of his postings, he is completely unapologetic of his misconduct. Is it ok that because he's the head of CSM, that he can do whatever he wants?

For the future of the CSM, please consider the dismissal of The Mittani from CSM.

EDIT #1
Great job, Mittani the Great. It seems like on the first week of your CSM chairmanship, you are able to garner a distinguished recognition from gaming website. Fantastic job. You make all of us look like idiots.

EDIT #2
Yes! Another media coverage thanks to Mittani the Great! Keep up the excellent work.

EDIT #3
Mittani the Great, you really know how to bring media coverage to our beloved game. A+ for your outstanding CSM Chairmanship. More media coverage!

EDIT #4
People say third time is the charm. Fourth media coverage? I am not sure.

EDIT #5
Let it rain. Another more thorough media coverage of Mittani the Great's awesomeness.

EDIT #6
This is certainly a HUGE NEWS now that MASSIVELY is involved. Refer to the following media coverage for in-depth report.

I hope this investigation ends with Mittens being banned from EVE as well as removed from the CSM at the same time.

Just like Chribba, Darkness and several other well known personalities in EVE his word holds weight.
Well atleast to a certain crowd.
Next to that he is chair of CSM 6 and now CSM 7 so that's another spotlight.

You may not abuse, harass or threaten another player or authorized representative of CCP, including customer service personnel and volunteers. This includes, but is not limited to: petitioning with false information in an attempt to gain from it or have someone else suffer from it; sending excessive e-mails, EVE-mails or petitions; obstructing CCP Employees from doing their jobs; refusal to follow the instructions of a CCP Employee; or implying favoritism by a CCP Employee.

Don't know howmany braincells you have, but I can clearly see someone else suffering from is by being called out by name and called out to be harassed.

You may not use “role-playing” as an excuse to violate these rules. While EVE Online is a persistent world, fantasy role-playing game, the claim of role-playing is not an acceptable defense for anti-social behavior. Role-playing is encouraged, but not at the expense of other player. You may not create or participate in a corporation or group that habitually violates this policy.

This doesn't only hold true for roleplayers but also for those who are drunk and violate those rules.
Being drunk isn't an excuse.

You may not do anything that interferes with the ability of other EVE Online subscribers to enjoy the game or web site in accordance with its rules. This includes, but is not limited to, making inappropriate use of any public channels within the game and/or intentionally creating excessive latency (lag) by dumping cargo containers, corpses or other items in the game world.

Ingame mail is publicly available, by calling out to abuse this to harass someone can be classified under this rule.

You will not encourage others to break these rules or any rules set forth in relation to EVE Online’s game service or web site.

By calling others out to harass this player he actually invokes others to break the none harassement rule. So he encourages others to break a rule.

These are just a few things I want to bring forward. It doesn't matter if that player was or wasn't suicidal. The mere idea he might be should have stopped Mittens from doing what he did.

Actually, Mittani didn't harass anyone, via email or otherwise, at any point. He merely told others if they wanted to email the gentleman his in game email was The Wis.

Now I suppose if some people decided to repeatedly spam Wis that might be considered harassment... except, of course, that it isn't as they can be deleted without even reading them. Even convo's can be blocked with a simple click. Either way, that is on their own head. The Mittani didn't "order" anyone to do anything... nor could he enforce it somehow if he tried.

Now he did attempt to embarrass the guy during the broadcast, along with several others. However I have yet to see a ruling in any nation that embarrassing someone is against the law.

By the way, cyber bullying cases in the US at the moment involve cases where the persons real life identity is known and affected. The Wis still retains complete anonymity and could simply quit the game if he/she feels harassed and doesn't know how to press the delete key in his EVE mail.

I'm pretty sure the US government has more important things on its mind right now than video games, I hear theres an upcoming election they all seemed to be focused on right now.

And the conservative side needs some votes and these are the churchy people. In fact if we could ask them if they were connected with it only one would say its ok. This would be a great election issue.

Wow. Are you even from the US? Say what you will about our foreign policy, but the US banning EvE would be a blatant violation of the 1st amendment of our constitution. I mean, some idiot republican running for pres recently mentioned banning hard core **** and was pretty much an instant laughing stock. The ONLY thing they could ever do is restrict it for under 18 y/o people so they would need parental consent. It would have no effect on the player base at all. AT ALL. In fact, the publicity of even attempting that would probably result in a healthy bump to the subscriber base. If you are in the US I would bet you are a ****** junkie. I've read some dumb stuff today but this is definitely the dumbest thing I've read.

God you sir are an idiot. There are currently video games that are banned for sale in the USA but can be played in other countries. The US government can ban any product from entering the USA at anytime, they have that power. EVE online is a video game. A video game is a product. Any product can be banned from entering the country. How hard is that to understand?

You live in the USA and you do not know how this country works? How sad.

Give me one example of a game I can't play in the US. Just one moron.

There are none. Are there trade restrictions related to copyright or trade agreements that prevent certain physical items or from being sold in a physical form on US soil? Sure. Is there anything preventing me from buying it on e-bay? Nope. Is there an internet based service that I cannot access from the US? No. There are services (even YouTube) that prevent streams based on copyright issues, but is it illegal for me to use a proxy service? Nope.

What would you use as precedent for suggesting EvE could be banned? They could take the physical game off the shelves but even if there were trade sanctions with Iceland we would still be able to play. You don't know your rights. That's whats sad. That and you are a moron. POD yourself.

I will only say this,
presidents and ministers of real life countries resigned for smaller things.
This all is not because he said that as a person, its because he sad that publicly as a representative, its because he is elected and he is, because of it, responsible for his actions and words.
