Show me where I said that the US law covers the entire planet? I said that the US could ban EVE online from the USA. Which they can do by law as the US government can ban any product from entering this country. That is a fact.

Pretty sure White Wolf is still in the US, along with the Eve store, and a few offices. As a country we are not in a good place right now.

Look at Gibson, they've been raided twice and almost shut down and they haven't broken a single law. But they got some bad PR a couple years ago so the DoJ keeps jerking them around with a century old law they haven't even broken.

If you are from the USA you are subject to those laws even when visiting another country.

Its in the passport information when you go to get one.

How can you be this stupid? Seriously its an honest question.

The US can ban the import of the video game from Iceland. They can ban US internet companies from allowing connections to the CCP servers. They could do a bunch of things to make sure that EVE is not allowed to be played in the USA.

There are a few games that are banned in the USA that you can play in other countries, this would not be the first time nor will it be the last.

God how can you be this dumb? How on earth do you not hurt yourself while typing?

Oh cool the "how can you be this dumb?" game! I've got next:

Congress isn't going to act unless there's something in it for them - either money or goodwill from their voterbase. Goodwill from their voterbase would require the public to (a) know about this and to (b) give a **** about it.

For this to happen, some major news source would have to pick up the story and run with it, which means they'd have to call it cyber-bullying and interview The Wis about it. Not only does The Wis seem pretty much not-too-bothered about the whole thing, he's also an adult. Cyber-bullying is a hot topic because it falls under the "think of the children" banner, which is pretty much incompatible with an adult, especially one who doesn't seem bothered by what transpired (not anymore, anyway).

I guess the TL;DR is "how can you be this dumb? How on earth do you not hurt yourself while typing?"

"Look any reason why you need to talk like that? I have now reported you. I dont need to listen to your bad tone. If you cant have a grown up conversation then leave the thread["

give a man a shotgun and he wil shoot.

give a man a microphone and he will speak.

whoever gave him the chance to speak is also to blame.

Complaining that a well known expert (and self admitted) troll is being trollish?

Might as well complain that the rain is wet.

That said, while I do think it was poor form to actually name him The Wis and call for harrassment, it's up to CCP if Mittens has broken the EULA/TOS or not. Crying about it here won't change the outcome of their investigation.

Incidently, I suspect CCP will have slightly stronger vetting procedures for the Alliance talks from here on out.

Yet realising when you place yourself on a pedestal your words will be weight with more scrutiny never arose to him.

Just like Chribba, Darkness and several other well known personalities in EVE his word holds weight.
Well atleast to a certain crowd.
Next to that he is chair of CSM 6 and now CSM 7 so that's another spotlight.

You may not abuse, harass or threaten another player or authorized representative of CCP, including customer service personnel and volunteers. This includes, but is not limited to: petitioning with false information in an attempt to gain from it or have someone else suffer from it; sending excessive e-mails, EVE-mails or petitions; obstructing CCP Employees from doing their jobs; refusal to follow the instructions of a CCP Employee; or implying favoritism by a CCP Employee.

Don't know howmany braincells you have, but I can clearly see someone else suffering from is by being called out by name and called out to be harassed.

You may not use “role-playing” as an excuse to violate these rules. While EVE Online is a persistent world, fantasy role-playing game, the claim of role-playing is not an acceptable defense for anti-social behavior. Role-playing is encouraged, but not at the expense of other player. You may not create or participate in a corporation or group that habitually violates this policy.

This doesn't only hold true for roleplayers but also for those who are drunk and violate those rules.
Being drunk isn't an excuse.

You may not do anything that interferes with the ability of other EVE Online subscribers to enjoy the game or web site in accordance with its rules. This includes, but is not limited to, making inappropriate use of any public channels within the game and/or intentionally creating excessive latency (lag) by dumping cargo containers, corpses or other items in the game world.

Ingame mail is publicly available, by calling out to abuse this to harass someone can be classified under this rule.

You will not encourage others to break these rules or any rules set forth in relation to EVE Online’s game service or web site.

By calling others out to harass this player he actually invokes others to break the none harassement rule. So he encourages others to break a rule.

These are just a few things I want to bring forward. It doesn't matter if that player was or wasn't suicidal. The mere idea he might be should have stopped Mittens from doing what he did.

Actually, Mittani didn't harass anyone, via email or otherwise, at any point. He merely told others if they wanted to email the gentleman his in game email was The Wis.

Now I suppose if some people decided to repeatedly spam Wis that might be considered harassment... except, of course, that it isn't as they can be deleted without even reading them. Even convo's can be blocked with a simple click. Either way, that is on their own head. The Mittani didn't "order" anyone to do anything... nor could he enforce it somehow if he tried.

Now he did attempt to embarrass the guy during the broadcast, along with several others. However I have yet to see a ruling in any nation that embarrassing someone is against the law.

By the way, cyber bullying cases in the US at the moment involve cases where the persons real life identity is known and affected. The Wis still retains complete anonymity and could simply quit the game if he/she feels harassed and doesn't know how to press the delete key in his EVE mail.

If he's really threatening something like this, he should take a good look at his own life and make the decision to seek professional help. If he's that mentally unstable then he shouldn't be playing the game in the first place. He should take the steps to get rehab for his problems. Avoiding the situation entirely would have been best for Mittens, but in the end it's not his fault for what said person making the threat does. (which should include seeking help)

All this thread is is NPC alt posters trying to dig up dirt on Mittens and failing horribly. And a really good candidate for a z0r chain.
