Update to the Launcher and the repair tool - Fix inside!

For those using firewalls that do protocol filtering you MUST disable the firewall or the protocol filtering in your firewall software no matter what in order to stop the data corruption issue.

This has been discussed in several other threads but CCP has as of yet to announce this. It has to do with their usage of the rysnc application over http wrapper. rsync was never designed to be used the way CCP is using it.

The other thing that causes the data corruption for the same reason is SPI filtering in ANY router.

SPI and protocol filtering are looking for the same things. rysnc does not comply with SPI no matter what you do to it.

CCP answered my petition regarding this issue and directly conflicted with the public statement they made regarding hopes of ESET coming out with a patch for NOD32 or ESET Security. They stated that they were working with ESET to find a solution. The fact remains that CCP has yet to acknowledge that the launcher itself is the cause of the issue due to their usage of an application that uses UDP streaming over a http wrapper which is TCP.

No matter how you slice this issue, the fact comes down to rsync triggering SPI and firewall protocol filtering issue which causes corruption of the data stream.

This discussion and workaround solutions have been posted by members of the Eve Community and myself in this thread:

https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=80365

CCP has yet to make any public announcement regarding the issues I've just posted but the fact remains that every workaround I've helped my own corp members with as well as trying to fix my own issues with the data corruption issues comes back to SPI and protocol filtering of firewalls. Once these things were turned off or reconfigured to continue to allow Eve to operate in the clear of the firewall filtering, clients were able to launch and run properly after downloading the latest version of the repair tool and running it in the Eve directory.

For those of you getting data corruption errors this is the best possible hope of getting the client working until CCP removes rsync or some how magically makes the problem go away with the help of other firewall company software developers that can school them on coding properly for network protocol calls in their launcher.

Any ideas why eve patch keeps breaking my wireless connection havent been able to download past 15% as it just cuts my net out from the machine

thanks

I was having the exact same issue.

as I posted above:

disable router firewall
disable windows firewall
turn off antivirus

run launcher

once patch is complete, you can turn it all back on

run eve from the the exefile.exe found in the "bin" folder within your eve folder. (this runs eve without running launcher first)

the launcher hangs everything up as soon as it starts because something in your security detects it as hostile.

Update 14th March 16:15 GMT :

We have found a solution for some people getting corrupted downloaded data. The problem is caused by an antivirus/firewall called ESET Smart Security and ESET NOD32 Antivirus.

Players are asked to try to disable the protocol content filtering:

1. Open the main window for ESET
2. Press F5 to open the Advanced Setup Window
3. From the Advanced Setup tree, click Personal firewall Protocol filtering (for ESET Smart Security) or Antivirus and antispyware Protocol filtering (for ESET NOD32 Antivirus).
4. Untick the checkbox “Enable application protocol content filtering”
5. Download the latest repair tool: http://cdn1.eveonline.com/client_repair/345/repair.exe
6. Drop the repair.exe into the EVE client folder.
7. Run repair.exe

This will update your game client, take you to the latest version and give you a working version of the Launcher.

If that does not resolve your problem, please reply here.

This worked for me. Good job finding that.

i knew CCP is going to update the launcher today ... and i knew it will screw up ... so i rememebered a work around ...

DO NOT EVEN use the launcher

open EVE folder
open BIN folder
run evefile.exe game program directly

WHY DO THIS?

cos the launcher tried to update itself and screwed itself again.
repair does not even start
...

either the CEO of CCP is not paying the programmers enough ... OR ... you dont have enough time for the programmers to do this ... either way ... I BLAME CCP ! :p

Thanks man, very clever!!Big smile
A bit of a pain to have to do that but better than nothing.

It works great.

After working fine for two days after my initial problem this evening the launcher started hanging at 25% again. I uninstalled all antivirus software and turned off the firewalls - no luck.

I then followed this advice and it seems to have worked.

Thank you!

EDIT: Spoke too soon. It now doesn't jump from 5% to 15% and then to 20% before restarting, but gets slowly to 15% and then restarts now.

@ Alunis
Thanks for the tip!

But I expect from CCP they come up with some ANSWERS about network settings. I'm not going to disable or bypass my whole network security because of a game. Just INFORM your customers about the NEEDS of the network connection!! Is that so hard??? I'm not satisfied with a black box answer like "a internet connection". What ports, protocols, Hosts,...???
It was working before, so come up with some answers please! I don't understand a company can keep to exist with such nonchalance!

Nope. This was one of the first things I tried, using my university's VPN client. Not a chance.

The general problem with the "fixes" in this thread is, that there's a lot of very different issues and each fix will only work in a specific situation if you also have that specific problem.

Chances are your Uni is far more anal about security than your ISP (See Alunia's post) which is why the patch failed. At least mine was. They proxied and scanned everything. You will need to use a commercial VPN service with no fancy hidden ding dongs.

i had same problems and i have to uninstall then reinstall only to find out it wasnt successful. i used repair tool and finally things look like they are installing like they should be. only way to find out is to actually open the game. right now im on 6/7 downloading patch and it seem to have trouble. it would go all way to 10% then jump back to 5% and started again. so i am not sure. I guess i will find out tomorrow. Man this is so frustrating!

Where I am from I cant do this. The bandwidth to download the full client after each minor patch would cost more than the monthly subscription on my three accounts :(

My problems were fixed, and then started again on Tuesday after the 1.5.3 update.

Can someone from CCP please advise whether this problem officially exists (in CCP's eyes) and whether they are still looking into it? Or have we been forgotten about?

My current client version is 351477.

Where on the official forums can I download the 351477 - 353549 patch? I cant seem to find it so I can manually download it and import it into my launcher using the launcher import functions.

RUN eve w/o launcher

direct from evefile.exe ---> x:/ccp/eve/bin/evefile.exe

Hello,

for me the patch with the launcher isn't working neither.
I'm also in a infinite loop. My anti virus and firewall is disabled.
Also the repairtool doesn't fix the problem.

Get this stupid problem fixed CCP.

Thanks guys. I'm gonna give it a shot, I still have some hope left... must be a Minmatar thing. Roll

I have no traces of any other program that might be interfering with Eve this drastically. This is erring on the side of ridiculousness and reminding me of the movie Idiocracy. All jokes aside, since the implementation of that new fangled amazing Launcher, Eve bit the dust. I wasted 8 hours, patching, re-patching, repairing, re-repairing, uninstalling, reinstalling... I even downloaded the manual Payload installers... to no avail. Eve would not run. Finally I found a work around by going into the bin file and launching Eve from there...

And then yesterday, wouldn't ya know it, a new patch released... oh the joy I felt. /sarcasm
So I spent all day yesterday doing wash, rinse, repeat to try and get Eve to run, still no luck.
Here I am, 25 hours later doing the wash, rinse, repeat... and the /bin work around isn't working anymore. I've done just about everything except for throwing my comp out the bloody window... because I realize it's not my comp... IT'S CCP.

DON'T RELEASE A NEW BUILD IF IT ISN'T GOING TO WORK.

Sorry, sleeplessness gets the best of me. And I'm not sorry. I have tried everything... the glory though is that now I get a message saying that Eve "cannot connect to the server. Try checking your internet connection." HILARIOUS! I NEVER thought of THAT before... I mean, I'm on the forums and googling stuff, maybe I'm NOT on the internet and THIS is SOME SORT OF PARALLEL UNIVERSE?!?!

Amazing, just... flipping amazing CCP. And congrats to all you attentive Devs out there really busting tail to resolve our issues, glad to see someone on that side is doing something. So I'm reinstalling, (wash, rinse, repeat) and I guess I'm gonna disable EVERYTHING on my computer just to get EVE to work.

Today is a good day. Fly safe everyone who can actually play... although if you're reading this, you probably aren't flying... so type safely? I have played WoW, COH/COV, and several other MMO's and NEVER in my 10+ years of gaming seen this sort of chaos and general failure on a company's part. I get that Eve is a "complex game" with "cutting edge graphics" and "blah blah blah, yadda yadda yadda," but really? I mean REALLY? Get you act together CCP or else you're gonna start losing A LOT of paying members. Maybe that's why the launcher sucks so hard, because a plethora of already paying members quit and so now a hamster is running your office and patching things with bubblegum and duct tape.

This may be antagonistic, but I figure since no Dev is going to read it, that I would just spend the time complaining while throwing out a few specs in the hopes of getting my problem solved. Enjoy your Fancy Feast CCP.

Good. Day.

EDIT: FOUND A FIX!
Found a workaround if you're on a PC or any kind of Windows Platform.
On your computer go to:
Computer (C:) > Program Files > CCP > Eve > bin
Scroll all the way down and locate the Eve logo that says "ExeFile"
Double click and somehow it miraculously bypasses that stupid launcher and takes you to the log in screen.
Good luck to everyone and fly safe.
