That's enough. After days troubleshooting, the client still doesn't work at all. I do not want to spend my little spare time to solve CCP technical issues. And pay for it.
And, by the way, it's not a single issue, but an entire collection of different bugs. Download, graphic driver & screen resolution, program launcher, in-game issues, etc.

I just closed my subscription.
Good bye.

Also very frustrated my accounts haven't been training skills for almost 4 days now because of this bug it was known since there were posts about it when it was used on sisi i can't believe they haven't reverted the patch until they fix the problem it just seems they are posting the same 2 fixes over and over again both which don't work... my repair tool doesn't work the launcher doesn't work and when i manually patched the game launched it it says its missing _pyfreetypep.dll which after looking for it replacing it and starting again the launcher is deleting it every time i start eve....
a very pissed off and soon to quit eve player

Today I was forced to file a petition to have my subscription fee from the 15th refunded.

This is total fail. I launched the launcher this morning. It started to patch got to step 6/7 and then hung up my network card so bad I was forced to reboot.

the X button and close button on the launcher were both greyed out so I had to try to kill it with the task manager. It shut down but my computer could not obtain an IP address.

Reboot and now I am able to post this here.

My request is that if you guys ever figure out this issue please issue a newsletter explaining so and I will try this process again.

I wish everybody here good luck in having your issues resolved but frankly I don't have the time to spend 2 hours a day messing around with IT crap when stuff like this should only be happening in the early stages of a beta test not after I have been playing since 2005.06.12 17:09

There have been minor hiccups over the years with patches. But I have never seen ongoing issues like this before.

I have about 3-4 hours a week to play and I really don't want to have to get an IT degree just to patch and log in.

The old patching system worked.
The new patching system does not.

CCP please look at the petitions I filed on 11/30/2011 and 11/16/2011 for these same problems on the sisi launcher.

this is the answer I got:

Hi.

The developers are looking into why the repairtool isn't working under some circumstances, hopefully they'll have it fixed as soon as possible.

This is a problem that was happening on sisi and never resolved. You then proceeded to release it . Good work.

my fellow friends in trouble that cn not launch the game through the launcher try this sollution

I got it from someone who posted it in this forum and it worked for me

open EVE folder
open BIN folder
run evefile.exe game program directly

I was about as frustrated as you all, reinstalled game twice, copied the game from my other computer where it worked fine (10gb) and nothing worked. this above sollution really worked for me.

screw the launcher go directly to the game file

I really hope this works for you all

This should fix most ills but will require you to fork out some money.

Go to a VPN service provider and sign up for their cheapest plan.

Connect to VPN and run repair.exe

It should work then as this will bypass any ISP based system that is killing connections to the EVE download server.

You wil have to google for providers. I personally use Strong***.

I wouldn't personally call all the ills CCP's fault. There are some scenarios like this one that no amount of testing will detect.

I hope they compensate affected parties in some way in any case when they eventually fix the problem.

Hmm. Could 32-bit and 64-bit OS play a role? I have EVE installed on 3 separate computers, all running Windows 7. The biggest difference, besides the hardware used, is the OS. 2 of them are 64-bit (one is desktop Home Premium, one is laptop Professional), and the 3rd one is a desktop with 32-bit Windows 7 Professional. All are English version.

Oddly, the EVE Launcher (not sure which version is this as I checked on all 3 computers at different days and timing) did NOT have problem creating the patch and applying it to my EVE client on the 32-bit Win7. The game got patched and booted smoothly on the 32-bit OS.

However, problems occurred for the 64-bit Windows PCs.
- Patching through Launcher fails and resulted in constant loop-back when "creating patch", ultimately resulting in patch failure.
- Trying to use the Repair tool doesn't help at all. Keep giving "Warning: failed to add block" errors, resulting in an error.

I've tried other means like deleting the EVE directory in AppData, and I know my anti-virus aren't giving me issues (all 3 computers have different AV installed, namely AVG, McAfee and on the one that worked is MS Security Essentials). All to no avail for the 64-bit PCs. I have to download the entire 4GB client installer just to set it right.

Nope. This was one of the first things I tried, using my university's VPN client. Not a chance.

The general problem with the "fixes" in this thread is, that there's a lot of very different issues and each fix will only work in a specific situation if you also have that specific problem.

Seriously CCP, how fuckin useless are u guys?! I'm not here for beta-testing your useless programs like the fuckin launcher - get some fuckin brain, never change a running system (and it worked well without the launcher)! Neither the repair-tool does anything (stops after step 3 of 7, throwing a error message at me directing me to a useless logfile) nor the launcher does after the latest FUCKDATE since it's hangin in a loop trying to update itself!
/rant mode off

GO, FIX THIS ****!!!!!!!!111one

edit: NVM, I got it runnin myself - just had to use the updater.exe in Program Files (x86)\CCP\EVE\launcher\cache instead of using the USELESS launcher itself...

updater.exe didn't work. I still get "missing _PyFreeType.dll" error from the launcher (v1.11)

Also the repair tool doesn't work. This is the repair.exe.log

I think my client is updated, so is the launcher and the repair tool.

Same here. After a lot of problems and downloading the offline installer (each time 4GB and a limited download capacity) to repair the broken updates again and again and...
This time even a clear install of the offline installer fails!! What a crap! This really crossed the line. For a game where people have to pay a lot of money to play it, it's really unforgivable to upload these serious crappy installers. If it happens one time, OK. Twice, still OK. But for the six months I play this game I lost the count....

Got it solved.

hacked around in my router settings (dangerous cuz i really have no idea what im doing there) found a way to turn off router firewall

next i hacked around in windows firewall settings (also dangerous cuz it was all startrek technobabble in there too) and turned off windows firewall. Lots of flashy red lights etc.

next I went into AVG settings and turned off my AVG luckily it will only let me do that for 15 minutes max.

ran launcher. 5%.... 15%..... 27% WOOT!!

anyways I am in game now.

I launched the game using exefile.exe and everything seems to be running normal

there is something wrong with the way the software is doing something if it will only work if you have to turn off all your security to get it to work.

I had the problem where the (old&new) repairtool gave the "too many retries" error.

My fix for this was to copy the completely updated game from a laptop and just copy&replace that over my eve directory.

I am done fiddling with this stupid thing. I've suspended both my accounts and deleted the game from my machine. If I ever hear that you people have finally gotten your act together I may resubscribe, but no promises.

It's called AGILE development, and it's a way for programmers to indulge their worst habits, namely bypassing Q&A and forgoing diligence on release, because the idea is that they can fix the live problem faster than they can solve issues before release.

Of course, this totally craps on the clients, many of whom have a diminished experience until the problems are solved, but I suspect that there will be enough lost subscriptions that CCP starts looking at how they treat their end users with new releases and updates.

2 months ago, I was the biggest fan of CCP. Today, I don't think very much of their business approach or their skill at software development. I think my earlier opinion was ignorant of how much fail is possible when people don't put the user first.

DO NOT EVEN use the launcher

open EVE folder
open BIN folder
run evefile.exe game program directly

WHY DO THIS?

cos the launcher tried to update itself and screwed itself again.
repair does not even start
...

either the CEO of CCP is not paying the programmers enough ... OR ... you dont have enough time for the programmers to do this ... either way ... I BLAME CCP ! :p
