Do not disable protocol filtering.

Add exceptions for the launcher, repair tool and for the eve executable for the moment.

Disabling it completely leaves your system open for compromise.

This workaround applies to any firewall / AV package that does protocol filtering and any router that has SPI filtering enabled.

CCP should not be using a transport protocol that streams the client as it does in this case.

Fix inside my arse.

Tried everything. Guess what...still not working.

and...on top of that, i cant copy and paste the wall of text the launcher gives me instead of the game BECAUSE im not allowed HTML here ..apparently.

For soooo many bright and capable people working at ccp(small lettering intentional) some of you really ar'nt that bright.

Fix this and b***h slap the one who said it was ready.

In order to get my launcher to load I had to delete the file:

"C:\Program Files (x86)\CCP\EVE\launcher\cache\settings.yaml"

This was after getting the canned petition email (containing an error log that listed that file on the 4th line) which led me to this generic page. I got tired of waiting for a working answer and decided to play around with deleting files, because it was already broken.

If you get a big long error when trying to start the launcher that starts with
Quote:
Frame __init__ in lib\userSettings.pyc at line 15:
default = None
self =
settingsFile = u'C:\\Program Files
(x86)\\CCP\\EVE\\launcher\\cache\\settings.yaml'

self.settingsFile = u'C:\\Program Files

Loader =
stream =
Frame __init__ in yaml\loader.pyc at line 34:

then this might work for you too.

What about mac users? I'm still only getting the 1.04 launcher on both of my boxes, and there is no repair tool for us.

This is really aggravating, I've been asking you guys on three different threads for any word on the mac client for more than 24 hours now and have not even received the courtesy of a "hold on, we're looking into the reason why no one can play eve on a macbook today".

thanks.

So here's an update from my side.

After I got too upset with that rubbish you refer to as "launcher", I decided to try and reinstall the entire client. I downloaded the installer, launched it ... error. Took it an entire 6 seconds to fail the installation right there; "Your EVE Online installer has failed because of download problems or corrupt data".

Okay then, let's see about the offline installer. Went back to the download page and grabbed the executable and the 2 payloads. Download went down smoothly, as did the installation. Launched the game, and it automatically started patching the launcher. Mhm, so far so good. Then the game doesn't launch. Wtf ? I manually try and launch the game ... error. Cannot launch the executable due to an incompatibility with your 64 bit operating system.

Right..? Since when has that ever been an issue? So there - just for a second - I thought I was the idiot there, and went back to the download page to check if maybe I had selected a 32-bit-only installer or whatever. lol, it's not even mentioned on the System requirements page, and there's no alternative download links anyways.

Ok, looking for other options, and I notice that the launcher has a feature to directly inject a patch file. Aha, let's give that a try then, I thought ... only to find my hopes shattered when I find out that the offline patch files are no longer available, cause we now have the most awesome of all awesomest launchers! Then why the fukc even give the launcher the option if you won't provide the damn patch files anyways?!?!

So here I am now, 4 hours later. The old installation won't launch cause it can't patch by any means known to mankind, and the new installations are corrupted from the start. I try to be a reasonable person, but here I must admit that I am started to get really pissed off about how EvE's been treating me. Do you guys think it's normal, that after every other larger patch a full re-installation of the game is required to be able to play again (and now, not even that works anymore) ? I consider myself a knowledgeable person when it comes to computer stuff, but this is starting to become ridiculous. Also, I am not interested in the 37000 people who managed to log on tonight. During a crisis, nobody cares about the tens of thousands that lived, but only about the few dozens that have died.

Got exactly the same results for the procedure which Zyndell has executed, precious hours of my day were lost.

Just a few words about this situation: SHAME ON YOU CCP

Why don't you test your update software before deploying it? Do you know what is test driven programming?

Remember: An automatic update software is good only when it does not automatically #%*^* your software.

Did any of you try the solution for router and firewall security settings I posted earlier?

If not here it is again. It's worked for quite a few people and I've been getting some Evemails from people letting me know that it's been working for them as well.

Thanks anyway :)

As of 01:40 GMT (14th March) we released a new Launcher and a new repair tool to resolve some issues that players have been experiencing during the initial deployment of Crucible 1.5.

Those of you experiencing issues with the Launcher or updating the game, please follow these steps:

1. Reboot the computer.
2. Navigate to the EVE client install folder.
3. Run the Repair tool until it finshes.
4. Run eve.exe from the same folder

We ask people to reboot their computer to make sure that there are no locked files or other processes running while running the repair tool. This would otherwise interfere with the repair tool and prevent the client from updating.

If you have trouble getting the repair tool you can manually download the latest version here and drop it into the folder you are trying to repair: http://cdn1.eveonline.com/client_repair/345/repair.exe

Please let us know if this resolves the issues you are experiencing.

Update 14th March 16:15 GMT :

We have found a solution for some people getting corrupted downloaded data. The problem is caused by an antivirus/firewall called ESET Smart Security and ESET NOD32 Antivirus.

Players are asked to try to disable the protocol content filtering:

1. Open the main window for ESET
2. Press F5 to open the Advanced Setup Window
3. From the Advanced Setup tree, click Personal firewall Protocol filtering (for ESET Smart Security) or Antivirus and antispyware Protocol filtering (for ESET NOD32 Antivirus).
4. Untick the checkbox “Enable application protocol content filtering”
5. Download the latest repair tool: http://cdn1.eveonline.com/client_repair/345/repair.exe
6. Drop the repair.exe into the EVE client folder.
7. Run repair.exe

This will update your game client, take you to the latest version and give you a working version of the Launcher.

If that does not resolve your problem, please reply here.

Finally got in, After I manually downloaded the repair tool and ran it, I rebooted. (Windows 7 BTW). The repair tool appeared to work fine but I still could not get in. What finally worked for me was renaming the cache folder in Program Files (x86)\CCP\EVE\Launcher to CacheO and running the launcher again.

My launcher appears to load just fine, but the patch process itself just doesn't work. It'll load the same file over and over again:

(1/3): Creating EVE_Online_344784-350962.patch

up to 15%, then jumps to 25%, then restarts at 0%, and keeps doing it over and over. Repair file doesn't change anything, neither does rebooting or disabling the AV software.

EDIT: Just thought I'd let it run for a while and see what happens... which was not much, except that by doing this, the launcher filled up some 50 GB on my C:\ drive.

I am having the same problem here. The repair tool works fine, the launcher appears to work fine.

When downloading the 350962 patch it gets to 5%, jumps to 15% and then 25% and then restarts at 0%.

[Running Windows 7 64 bit, but it doesn't appear to be any issue related to others running the 64 bit operating system]

EDIT TO ADD: The game was working fine on the evening of the 13th, after the original patch that added the launcher. Then I get home on the evening of the 14th, and suddenly the launcher which worked perfectly the night before wont download the new patch.

I have uninstalled all antivirus software, with no luck.

I tried to log into the forums from the same computer (to report my problem) and couldn't log in. It goes through the login process and then takes me back to the forum without logging me in. I had the same forum login problems a few nights ago when I tried to log in, but couldnt, to vote in the CSM elections.

Could it be any setting other setting on my computer which stops the download or an ISP issue (sitting here in the arse end of Africa)?

The repair tool will write down the log as it goes in the white box. Just copy paste that here. It can in addition to this tell you that there is a logfile under a temp directory. Without clicking OK on the error, go to this temp directory and open the log.

Err - so you're telling me it has to work in order for it to generate a log file to tell me why it isn't working?

That doesn't work - because it doesn't happen.

As I said - repair.exe just sits there doing NOTHING. (I let it run all night and nothing happened).

I can't patch - because the installer hangs. I can't repair, because the repair program hangs.

Which means either you make the patch available to download separately - or this game and I go our separate ways - (and I've still got 2 months left or so...).
