Launcher crashed at end of download
After restarting, screen says "client is ready" but clicking Play button brings up the splash screen which disappears after 5 seconds
Then... nothing

MacbookPro 17"
3.06Ghz Core2 Duo
8GB ram
OSX 10.6.8

Just out of curiosity, do you guys do ANY testing at all before releasing this stuff?

OK all 4 TQ clients successfully updated, 2 on laptop, 2 on main games machine Cool.

I started with the laptop as it runs slower and gives me more time to stop and start things if they go wrong. Started the client as normal, download the patch and let it install. The installed started the Launcher and the launcher did its thing and downloaded the patch and installed it.

Once the [Play] button had lit up as ready to play I clicked the small ‘spanner (wrench in usa?) and screwdriver button’ and using the ‘Patches’ tab exported the patch file to my Downloads folder. Next I also exported it to a flash drive, then copied the \Launcher folder from the \Eve folder to the same flash drive.

I used both of those copies to update the copies of the clients on my games pc, and after running the usual Eve start up as soon as the Launcher started immediately clicked the small icon and imported the patch file into the Launcher. Went like a dream each of the remaining clients updated in no time.

However there was a couple of problems, the launcher gave a quick flash of an error message about not being able to update a shortcut. I traced this to the Games folder on the start menu where the Eve shortcuts were both scrambled and unusable to launch the game and we still have to wait while to client stops and starts to install a ‘hotfix’.

Minor niggle Blink.
Also could we please have our 16 * 9 Crucible splash screen back and not this new naff 4 * 3 job it really clashes on a 16 * 9 wide screen.

I had a problem with the launcher as well. When started it would inform me that it cannot patch the directory it was in because a process was running from that folder - specifically the Launcher itself.
After taking a *deep breath* and digesting the idiocy of the message I tried running the repair tool. It asked to be updated as well and after the update told me the same thing as the launcher - it could not repair my installation because the folder had a running process - the Repair tool.

*Deep breath* again.
After 1/2 an hour or so of forum browsing (not the official forums, because those were not functional) I had a small idea of my own and moved the entire Eve folder from D:\[Games]\Eve to D:\Eve and that seemed to do the trick.

*Deep breath* AGAIN.
So... dear CCP devs... Windows supports chars like [ and ] in folder and file names. Any good reasons why the Eve tools don't?

My launcher broke my client when I patched it. The Eve Repair tool does not work on the File, I downloaded the patch over and it did the same as the patch, calling the client "invalid". I'm left without an Eve Client to patch here, please help me fix this problem.

I've read the previous posts, all Mac problems have been exactly the same as mine.

This isnt working for me. cannot play the game. please give a simple response for a non computer literate person such as myself

The first thing the launcher does is change the security on the EVE program folder, to make it user writeable. If your account does not let this happen then it all falls in a heap.

The only solution is to copy the EVE program folder to some place that your account has write access to, so some place other than in the Windows Program Folder.

I noticed this morning that the Training Queue window still glitched when resizing. When I would grab the window's right edge to resize horizontally, the contents would disappear and it would just be a blank window. They re-appear after closing and opening again.

Also, any chance you can have that window's central divider (the one that separates the list of skills on the left and the time remaining bars on the right) stay where you last adjusted it to? It never remembers...

I was in the habit of installing patches on XP as Administrator, then running Eve as a non-privileged user.
The new launcher, unfortunately, requires Administrator privileges to run. It does seem to launch the main
game as the non-privileged user, but I would prefer that no Administrator rights be needed at all to run the
game.

Also, I cannot dual box anymore with the launcher. Ugh. My directory structure is such that I have Eve
installed in one directory and i am using the junction mechanism to create a "hard link" to the EVE folder
called EVE2. This allowed me to run multiple instances of EVE out of the same directory. The new launcher
refuses to launch twice out of the same directory.

^this technique doesn't work anymore

And another nice *deep breath*.

IS THERE ANY REASON WHY MY SETTINGS ARE GONE?

I know this is Eve and every couple of patches have to break something in the user settings but this is ridiculous.

Edit: And yes, I know how to get them back. The simple fact that *I* have to do it instead of the process being automated is stupid.

Tried it on a second Eve Client on my computer, same result. Please do more Mac related client testing before releasing stuff like this.

you know i was pretty upset when this new launcher downloaded the update, then bursted out some exception error and then just left me there with a message saying installation was unsuccessful....

I feel a bit better reading all these posts, knowing that im not alone in this.

Message to CCP tho, if you need us to run the repair.exe, why didnt you just make it part of the launcher?
And how is it possible that the launcher just gives up and leave's you stranded?

Honestly you need to think about making the launcher more resilient and self reliant! Dont you realize that your userbase gets frustrated when you leave them powerless like this?

Think long and hard about what support means and how you should apply it...

There might be something wrong with the launcher's self-update procedure. My launcher version was stuck at 1.04. Repair.exe didn't redownload anything (as did the launcher itself)

I deleted the launcher sub folder, ran repair.exe again, and now the launcher updated itself to 1.05. This is very strange!

Edit: This still didn't fix the clickable links. They open for me in a blank IE window with no page content, empty address bar and no visible loading progress or anything (the window is just stuck but I'm able to close it).

Is/will there be support to patch multiple clients with the same downloaded content?
The previous updaters allowed you to keep the downloaded material in a cache and subsequent clients would update from there.

I have 4 clients on one machine that each needs to download the patch files.Bandwith unfortunateliy is not free
everywhere :P

Small updates like Crucible 1.5 is not so big of a problem , however if you have to download several gigabytes per client for an expansion it wilh hurt the pocketbook a bit

Maybe, but the Edit still applies - if *I* have to spend effort to do something that should have been done by the system, then there was a failure somewhere. That's what I'm mad about. I have precious little time for playing Eve as it is and spending some of it trying to fix stuff that shouldn't happen is quite frustrating.
