I had the same issue.

Read somewhere that it may be a router security setting issue. I managed to log on by:

-Disconnecting from the internet.

-doubleclik the EVE icon on my desktop.

-A window telling me to log on to the internet popped up, however in the lower right corner was a button that said "start EVE".

-I pressed it, and Eve started.

-I got to the log in screen, it said "server status unknown"

-I tabbed out and connected to the internet.

-Came back to the login screen and logged in with no firther issues.

Good luck

A few days latter... Now I cant get back in after tabbing out.

So I start Eve as above while offline, and during the few seconds that it takes Eve to launch I have time to connect to the internet. There is a few minutes of black screen o doom then up pops the eve loggin screen.

Sometimes server status is listed as unknown, I wait a minute or two and then enter my password and user name, even if the server status is unknown at this time the game will still launch for me.

Patch day!!! well as expected my workaround would not allow the game to patch automatically. So I used the Eve repair tool located in the Eve directory to upload the patch. This took about 10 minutes.

I noticed that it altered DirectX and was hopeful that it was a DirectX problem that is causeing my loggin issue.

Once the Repair patch was complete I tried to log in while online. Same problem, the launcher crashed. So I logged off of the internet, hit the Eve icon, and quickly logged back onto the internet. This time I got the Windows blue screen o doom!

Restart computer....Eve still wont start while I am connected to the internet. Try the DC internet bypass and viola I'm in with an up to date version!
