seriously ccp can the mac community, those of us able to download your launcher and update eve successfully, could we get some response as to why our frame rate has died and what you're doing about it. i mean i'm assuming the best, that you just lost the link to your above thread, which is apparently the thread for mac issues, so i'm posting it here for you to remind you since you seem to only be reading this one.

thanks in advance

If you think they're really bothering to read these posts in earnest, they're only doing so when they think they can reply to something with some form of witty response that *might* fix an issue.

If CCP had been reading player posts this disaster would never have gotten beyond Sisi in the first place.

Just like to point out that CCP said that they're holding off on the client patch until the launcher issues have been resolved so that those of us who have had issues getting patched at all can continue to play.

Anyone else still got Kinetic missiles showing up as Trauma Missiles when they SHOULD be called Scourge Missiles according to latest patch notes??

This just isn't true. We're using HTTP range requests and rsync over HTTP

rsync over HTTP is still UDP packet streaming. The protocol has no error correction bits and sends packets out of order. What I said *is* correct. A proper launcher should have been using a torrent stream and this would have avoided the problems you guys are causing. As it stands you're asking people to have to turn off vital security tools in order to get the game client. You had two months to address this issue when it was posted on the Sisi forums and nothing was done to take this issue seriously
.

HTTP is not UDP so your comment makes no sense

If ANY tool/appliance interferes with a running TCP connection by altering its payload it is broken, period. If the launcher uses HTTP range requests and they are being mangled by the antivirus software, the antivirus software is broken. The whole point of TCP is that the stream is guaranteed to be in order and without any loss of packets. The data is also protected by (admittedly weak) checksums

I know from experience how extremely aggravating this is; I used to program back-end software for mobile apps, and carriers regularly screwed with the HTTP headers and sometimes even payload because their over congested networks had to use caching and all sorts of dirty NAT tricks to get internet to every mobile device... Some of them went as far as inserting ads into the HTTP stream, completely breaking clients which used HTTP as an RPC transport..

A workaround could be as simple as using a different TCP port for HTTP traffic so the router/av software doesn't start messing with it.

So could log on and play yesterday after having issues with my internet connection dropping out when and only when the launcher was updating the client, the I go to log on today and it is updating the launcher and it causes my internet connection to drop out again. This only happens when I try to access EVE. Come on CCP this is getting beyond ridiculous. EvilEvil

hey PryMary, I have seen your post saying your launcher's still not working on win7 x64, i'd like to help you and the other win7 x64 users with the same problem, if i can, since my launcher and client are running on mine.

What i had to do with the help of CCP DEV Donut Golem was download the latest patch "evepremiumpatch350962" and the latest launcher version http://cdn1.eveonline.com/350962/EVEOnlineLauncherInstaller.exe when they became available, had to relocate the game folder to a path that did not contain any brackets or other uncommon characters, since the launcher still did not patch directories containing those, and then install both the patch and the launcher, make sure you have the "Run as Administator" option ON on your new launcher.exe, repair.exe and eve.exe. Run launcher.exe to start patching the client.

This worked for me and put my client back up after about 1 day and 6 hours of game time lost

Having issues with the new patches. I am able to log in and get into the game just fine. I am only able to play for up to five minutes and my screen goes completely black and displays that it's going to sleep. I am able to continue hearing the music. My keyboard lights are lit up. I am unable to use any keys on the keyboard or mouse to bring the screen back on. I have to hard boot my machine to be able to use it again. What I have done to correct the issue:
Restart the computer - probably around 20 times at this point.
Run the repair tool - probably around 10 times. This no longer seems to find any issues.
Completely uninstalled EVE - to inlclude deleting out the CCP folder then reinstalled it.
Uninstalled and reinstalled the latest drivers for my Nvidia GeForce 9500GT graphics card.
I'm currently out of ideas for resolving this on my own. I can't seem to find anything on this issue in any of the other threads. This issue has been ongoing for two days now.

Wrong.. You're not looking at the whole picture here.

rsync IS UDP. Using a HTTP wrapper around a UDP protocol doesn't change the fact that the protocol being used by rsync is still a UDP protocol.

A friend of mine, Pat Paddget, wrote a piece of software some years ago that does the same thing that they're doing. The software was called corkscrew. It allows you to take a process such as rsync, ssh, telnet, or any program for that matter that needs to access a foreign site via a proxy. The same mechanic is being used here. They're wrapping rsync through HTTP which yes, DOES USE TCP. But it doesn't change the fact that the stream being pushed through doesn't look correct to SPI and to firewalls with protocol filtering..

I have already talked to support at ESET about this issue and they came to the same conclusion that I did regarding this issue.

So you can come to any conclusion that you like but I didn't fall off the truck yesterday and I do understand exactly what CCP has done to the point that when they said they were using rsync it confirmed why another friend of mine that had SPI filtering enabled on his router, why he was suddenly able to get the Sisi client to work a month ago while I was still having the issue due to ESET filtering the protocols as well.

CCP should NOT be using rsync. Period. There is no reasons for them to use this protocol, wrapped or not, when torrents allow them to take the load off their servers on patch days and it has error checking available since it uses TCP properly.

Edit: One last thing I might add to this.

What you're saying makes zero sense. ESET is not the only software that is facing this fight.. AVG, Nortons, and several others have been noted throughout the last few days as once being disabled the download was fine. This means that it's not THE FIREWALL / AV SOFTWARE companies that are the problem. It means CCP *IS* the problem.

CCP making the statement that ESET might come out with a patch is insane. I was told the exact opposite by the support folks at ESET earlier today when I called them about this issue.

Bottom line.. CCP failed QA testing before releasing this launcher and the patches. Period.

Here's the issue I'm having,

Ever since the launcher was introduced my client gets very very buggy, every action I try to perform in game takes about 3-4 seconds to respond, eg: opening the mail box, it remains blank for about 5 secs. I need to wait for about 5 secs before I can hit dscan again. The dscan button freezes up. Also another big noticeable problem - I went through a WH and when I turned back to look around the static was simply not on my screen. The WH didn't close behind me but I simply couldn't see the static at all.

Ive tried the repair tool about 3 to 4 times and each time I've used it, I've done it right after restarting my PC.

Do let me know how can I fix this.

I run Win 7 64 bit

Regards.

I've found that the workaround would be to re-install the launcher so that it patches correctly. However we had to do this the other day as well with the last patch. It'll say the executable is a 16-bit program, per my previous screenshots.

In any case v1.11 of the launcher still corrupts on attempting to patch through that.

CCP Atropos asked me to send him a copy of my /launcher folder which I have done.

Are you running any type of a firewall / antivirus software or do you have a router with SPI filtering enabled?

The issue with corruption is normally something filtering the http wrapped rsync protocol that CCP has adopted for it's launcher. So a number of firewalls that check to insure that packets that meet the SPI filter requirement which rsync does not do properly are causing the launcher, repair tool, and several other files to become corrupt thus giving you the error messages you're getting.

CCP fails to see the problem with using rsync wrapped via http ranged requests and has refused to admit their own fault as opposed to taking up the position that the companies that produce the firewalls need to release patches to their software.

I had the same issues with the launcher showing as a non-32bit / 64bit program. You might try to completely disable your firewall or AV software and check the router to assure that you're not running SPI filtering anywhere in the router.

This *should* allow you to download without any further corruption. You'll need to download a new repair tool and run it again. There are links to the repair tool that CCP has posted throughout this thread so I'm sure you can find one of them to download and drop into your Eve directory and launch it to fix the problem if this is the case.

Good luck.

I have a better suggestion.. roll back the launcher, rebuild the launcher to use torrent transport instead of rsync, and then world peace will ensue shortly after.
