115.12.17 04:27 (name not retrieved)(10 former Elite Slaves, Weapons 2.7M ISK incl 2/425 mm auto cannon tech 2, <14,000 missiles )
115.12.19 13:31 Zypher92 16 people

A couple days ago, we were out of a normal patrol area and came upon a jetcan. We assumed it may be weapons so we went ahead to check out the contents. It turns out that there were also surviving people on board. Sometimes slave crews are found on board wrecks or salvaged wrecks because they are not allotted space on standard escape pods. It was likely the case here. I don't usually record pilot names when doing confiscations and so had not pulled up any pilot information. Thus it is not recorded in our records. The ten people recovered were given full medical evaluations back at the center and are fine.

A trivial note: The Kaap center school children have name the Fedo, Alfredo the fedo or just Fred for short.

I heard that Che Biko and Gaufres were involved in a rescue early today in Sivala, but I have not heard any details. Sivala is an enigma in that it is not a border system but still sees deathcans occasionally. DSTON has rescued from that system a few times not on intentional patrol, but just passing through. I am very curious about their rescue operation, how it proceeded and how many they were able to rescue. Glad they found themselves at the right place at the right time.

DSTON gives peaceful wishes to the new chief of the Sebiestor Tribe. May the spirits hone her intentions to peace and well-being for all her people and by extension to all peoples everywhere.

I noted on the C3SRC channel that one of the recognized search and rescue pilots was blinking "suspect." That is good as it likely means a rescue has been successfully completed. That was indeed the case. Having the DSS Mayflower near meant that they could be transferred to my ship and taken to a near Center in very short order. Thanks again, Captain Biko.

The other report was of a four deathcan rescue earlier in the day.

Record keeping and reporting has always been a rather tedious chore for me so its easy to get behind in the task. These are the recent rescues. I have patrolled the new low sec system twice now and no cans were found. This, however is not indicative of anything as it is often the case that nothing is found even in the busy systems sometimes even for an extended period. When I do the Diaderi to Zoohen run, I will regularly pop in the 0.4 system and check.

I have also managed a couple weapons confiscations along the way. Eventually, I will consolidate these at our corp hangar in Yulai. If Ston wants to move them on to Bahromab, he can do it at his convenience.

Apparently, not everyone thought he was funny...

We were having a coffee in the Leaning Tower between patrols when we heard a commotion. Some fellow ran into the café and hid behind the counter huffing and puffing and trying to do so quietly. A group of rather gruff looking security people rushed past the café in obvious pursuit. After a while, when it was clear that the chasers had gone to other parts of the station, we invited the slight young man to tell us what it was about. It turns out that he was hired as a prop comedian on some sort of Caldari military mission (don't ask me to explain what I don't understand). He decided it wasn't for him and so hired himself out to do standup at a station bigwig party. Long story short, he lampooned the station manager's wife who did not take kindly to his albeit humorous jests. The chase did then ensue. We have agreed to shelter this individual in our center in Ation. Hopefully the embarrassment he caused and resultant anger will cool with time.

On a more serious note, we also report rescues as indicated and a significant weapons and ammunition confiscation.

I received a notification from Ston about a low security crossing from the Mandate to the Republic and that If I felt able, that I could add it to our patrol zone. The crew of the DSS Assist was confident that we could patrol Uplingur with reasonable risk level. We have conduct one patrol there but will endeavor to make it a regular practice. Rescue work has been quiet in my area here. We were pleased to confiscate a good number of dangerous combat drones a couple days ago.

I took a partial crew from the redemption with two help test some new fitting just installed on DSTON's new Stratios. We were bringing her back from the shipyard to Yulai where she will be moored. The route back passes through Tourier which is the system neighboring one of our patrol systems, Diaderi. We decided to fly over and check the system. There was an abandoned can (blue) closer to the gate so we set course to intercept it. before reaching transport range another vessel looted the can. We waited. Sure enough, he ejected a yellow deathcan. We made the rescue and escaped across the border and on to station in Tourier. The new Stratios has not even been christened yet and already she has seen her first rescue. My crew and I were excited, needless to say.

Interesting to read about these refugees. The Aurora Arcology houses several Coriault Couture Collective Display Employees. If we let them exchange idea's and provide a joint venture, we could come up with some interesting clothinglines designed to promote the workings of both The Disciples of Ston and The Aurora Arcology among the common people.

The Clothingline SoE recently released shows this can be a profitable venture for both our projects.

This would be a great opportunity for both groups. Here's an idea: Perhaps we could have a work exchange between the two groups. We could send a work group of Mannar Textile Experts to work with the Coriault group and you could send a representation to work with our group of Mannars; this of course if they both would enjoy the opportunity and would like to do it. Let me know what you think. We here at DSTON tend to e'r on the side of practicality, but it could be a real boast to our Matriculation community to inject a bit more style even into the emergency clothing we provide to those we rescue. Perhaps this project could lift the spirits of people who have been through some tough times.

I had a talk with Ston about the exchange a while back, and can confirm the idea has support on both sides. Due to the busy schedule these days, it's been agreed to delay this cultural exchange and negotiating the details around it during early YC116. I look forward to this meeting, as do many residents of the Arcology, curious with what kind of styles & fashion these Mannar Textile Representatives come up with!

Can you "hate" someone to death?..."spite" someone to death?..."blame" someone to death?... "resent" someone to death...etc?

Medical research has shown that when we ourselves are hateful, spiteful, unforgiving, etc., it is quite unhealthy. But also we have all been "in the room" where there is hate, spite, unforgiveness, resentment... We have all felt that kind of energy. Depending on your bent; whether you are religious, spiritual, or decidedly neither, you will name it differently. Some will say that hate brings a negative spiritual power that can damage a person or even kill him. Others might say that there is a negative emotional energy. Others would simply say that the human can sense hate and reacts as we are evolved to react, by secreting epinephrine, raising blood pressure, secreting cholesterol, etc. If repeated often enough, this cycle can bring significant harm to the body.

However you see it, at the very least, when we hate we diminish our lives and the lives of those we hate if we have opportunity to express that hatred.

I bring this up because of a recent post describing physical torture that a fellow capsuleer endured. There was speculation that this torture was personal in nature. I want to remind all of us capsuleers that we may never raise a hand against another; we may never fire a weapon or launch a missile...but when we hate another using words, gestures, or even silence, we communicate a power that harms. We have weapons at our disposal that require no training to use but are ever with us. There is no safety switch to prevent us from hating other than our own decision not to.

Can you hate someone to death? I'm not sure I can prove that you can, but I'm pretty sure you can diminish someone's health through focused and expressed hatred, lack of forgiveness, resentment, and the like. Likewise, simple kindness can generate a marvelous health for the giver and receiver alike. Which will we chose today?

Confiscation Report:

Drug Confiscation: 115.12.28 19:53 (18 Pure Synth Crash booster)
Materials confiscation: 115.12.29 (30 Plutonium)

Atypical rescue scenarios are more dangerous to crew and ship than the typical scenario. In the first report above, we were distant enough from the gate to necessitate align and safepoint warp. Though almost always effective, it is more risky than gate activation followed by cloaked warp to station. We encounter the atypical situation most often when lightly armed vessels auto pilot to border crossings with passengers on board, are attacked, destroyed, salvaged and leave behind survivors. Typical evidence would include the presence of modules and materials typical of identifiable ships as is mentioned in the report.

Also...We regularly confiscate weapons, ammunition and dangerous drugs. However, we recently confiscated precursor materials as reported above. This is a first for us but something to keep an eye on in the future.

In my last post I spoke about precursors. Almost if on que, yesterday while making a transportation run to Yulai, we confiscated a large cache of Thermonuclear Trigger Units and various other offensive items. Later while patrolling a battle zone looking for survivors, we confiscated a large number of combat drones from the battlefield along with smaller numbers of weapons and ammunition.

The rescue of 20 people from a deathcan also occurred while on the Yulai route. I apologize for not registering the pilot name as it was out of our usual patrol area and routine. These twenty we rescued in Diaderi and brought to Manwe's base in neighboring Tourier.

The crossings we are patrolling see very little traffic, but so far, they also been relatively safe to patrol and we have not been targeted or attacked in any way. The new year has begun on a typical pace. We are glad to be rescuing those in need. Now to address another issue... Confiscations. I have been in conversation with others about this practice and the issues that go with it. Should we recycle or trash the arms we find? The problem with these practices is verification. Who says we have followed through and actually trashed or recycled the arms we collect? If we recycle, how can we possibly verify that we have actually done that and not sold the weapons and ammunition instead? All of the suggestions made and/or options we have considered, lack the element of verifiability.

Until a better solution is found, we will continue to confiscated and store all weapons and ammo we take. This storage will be indefinite. Our primary storage lockdown is in Baromab. Beginning now, DSTON will conduct verification tours upon request of those who legitimately want to test our integrity in this area. The advantage of this system is that if anyone inspect our lockdown, they will know what we have and that no item will ever be missing over time. Items will only be added. We are in the process yet of removing all non-offensive items from the Baromab lockdown to simplify and inspections made. I can be contacted directly should anyone wish to schedule and inspection. From time to time we make confiscations in distant systems and temporarily store elsewhere. When there is time, we consolidate to one lockdown. That's it in a nutshell.

Our goal is that neither DSTON, nor anyone else should ever profit from or use any of these weapons.

We have a good spot under the Agri-dome at the Keep Center. It is a good, healthy place for newly rescued Matriculants to deal with their trauma, interact with other like them, and adjust to the expansion of future possibilities. After a thorough medical exam and evaluation, the 30 newly rescued people were brought to the community dining center. Their first community meal included the presence of the Mayflower crew, myself and members of the center triage team. We are the first people the new Matriculants interact with. The dining center can be chaotic and so the relaxed posture of my crew is often a tool to help the newly rescued to ease in. Its been an effective practice.

Yesterday I was on regular patrol and received an FTL that a wrech had been found within four jumps of my position. It was reported that there were survivors on board but that there also was a significant presence of armed capsuleer vessels. The Mayflower responded, found the wreck and exercised normal align procedures before transfer. Escape was accomplished without being targeted. 30 Marines were rescue along with a pile of weapons.

Earlier today, we encountered the "free slaves" labeled deathcan that we sometimes see on patrols. Sometimes these are laid as traps. Though, this was within gate activation range and so the resuce was made without incident. We have also made misc. weapons confiscations. I don't always log them if we are busy with other things, but I reiterate that our weapons lockdown in Bahromab is open to inspection by interested parties.

Its been busy. At the conclusion of yesterday's major and time consuming action, 8 scientists were rescued from a gate trap set by a group of pirates. At about the turn of the hour I received word that I would need to take a few of Ston's patrols, so I headed up to Niarja and ran a couple shifts there. I left and headed back to Tourier once Tahrmal was enroute to Niarja. We'll prioritize these two areas for the next week until Development decides what to do.

I might comment that the rescue of the 8 scientists was part of a rescue/confiscation op that took a long time to complete. In multi-can cases, there is a right and a wrong way to go about it. You cannot be impatient especially when there are pirates eager to pop you. You learn to wait out timers on station or cloaked. If you are flagged, an experienced pirate can have you tackled to popped in seconds. I feel very bad for Ston. What happened is very regrettable all around. We need uniform and safe (relative) practices for these situations.

I will be volunteering to serve on the planning group to draw up uniform guidelines. In the mean-time I will refrain from all confiscations until cleared to resume.
