The middle set labeled at 14:02 and 14:21 represent our patrol coming upon 8 cans over about 15 KM. Four of these cans were deathcans. They were rescued in two trips. The other cans were flotsum from a battle I assume. Two other rescues are reported. Our Center staff has been busy. Yesterday, in particular, was a hectic day.

Our organization needs to address the ongoing issue of Slavers. There is an odd intersection of Capsuleer governance and baseline governance. A Capsuleer agrees to illegally transport slaves and their slaver handlers across sovereignty boundaries. Baseline slavers attempt to cross into free territory to market slaves illegally with the assistance of capsuleer pilots. Capsuleers together with baseliners... We would like to see the DED give some kind of cooperative statment with baseline law enforcement regarding what is expected in these situations.

Eventually, we would like to see those in our detention facilities rehabilitated and returned to society. We do, however, wish to protect them from death penalties and generational enslavment.

It is in our nature to blame another for being what we project them to be even when in reality we have cast them wrong. Sometimes, even wars are started that way. Most often, it is seen in the everyday social snubs, grudges, and judgments we cast upon others. Often it occurs on an individual level because of racial, cultural, sexual, national and other stereotypes. A somewhat small example I see from time to time among those who crew our ships.

Sometimes I take refreshment with my Vherokior crew cheif, Lt. Krik. He knows me better than most other baseliners and he speaks his mind. He also knows that he knows a lot more than me about most things. The fact that I am a capsuleer does not intimidate him. I once asked him why the rest of my crew didn't seem to enjoy socializing with me. He stated that many or most baseliners assume capsuleers to think of themselves as "above" them. At the end of a shift, the crew wants to relax and let down their guard and unwind. Having to pay deference to some capsuleer is not relaxing and so is generally avoided.

Wow, I always thought I projected more of a normal air than that. Krik said that if I want to overcome the perception, I need to "be less than normal." What does that mean? I like the men and women of my crew and would rather spend time with them than with my own kind. This leaves me with a kind of isolation. I think many capsuleers also find themselves in this "inbetweenness." I will keep trying to connect with normal humans. I have no desire for the sort of transhumanism that some embrace. I see it as a self-deception.

Ah, I see it is supper time. I think I'll take the evening meal in the crew mess tonight.

Peace cannot co-exist with greed. Capsuleers struggle with the concept of peace because it contrary to excessive consumption, something that capsuleers are unfortunately good at. If, on the other hand, we began to use our power, resources, and skills to generate good for the purpose of sharing with others, then we might have our minds opened to new avenues toward peace. Greed shackles our minds and creativity, both directly and subconsciously. Put greed to death and peace may just come alive.

Kinds of Greed:
1. I want more stuff/money and will never be satisfied with what I have.
2. I want more power and will never be satisfied with what I have.
3. I always have to be right and cannot be part right and part wrong or heaven forbid, completely wrong.

Greed #3 is perhaps one of the greatest barriers to peace. Capsuleers struggle with Greed #3 and so do baseliners. It is difficult to combat, because it involves grey areas and fuzzy lines. Men and Women of conscience have to stand on values and cannot be wishy-washy in that matter. We have to "be right" sometimes and insist on that "rightness." But how insistant? I wish I had the answer.

I think that most of our cultural values can give way now and then to the values of others. In fact, the stronger our values the more flexible we can be with those who do not share them. Why? Because we are not in the constant state of insecure defensiveness. In other words, we do not need to force others to accept our ways. If our ways our valid, they will appeal to others on their own merit.

Caldari, Amarrian, Gallente, and Matari cultures all have merit. But how "right" each of these cultural values may be should be determined by how meritoriously you live your beliefs. (Forgive my Caldari slant in the use of "meritorious"). Let us wage a war of goodness where we determne to represent our values in the best possible way, not with tools of destruction, but with the energy example.

It is a general truism that with the measure you use it will be measured to you. Hitorically, personally, nationally, individually, over time, it seems to work out that way. The capsuleer diesn't always believe that though. We sometimes fall into the sort of immunity syndrome that goes with being a clone.

Measure out your life with grace, generosity, kindness, and peace and see if those things are not also measured back to you. Measure out hostility, hatred, spite, blame, etc., and see if those negatives are not also measured back to you. Though a truism, it isn't always true, at least in th short term. Unrequited goodness requires a patient spirit. Oh that there were more such spirits in our universe.

Making peace is always risky and always involves a sacrifice of our egos. If we insist on holding on to grudges, on keeping every demand, making the process of peace impossible...If we insist on keeping more reasons for war and starving our motivation for peace, then there will be war until we destroy ourselves.

But...If we say, "I look for more reasons for peace and I will let my reasons for war die away..." Then, peace may germinate among us and have a chance to grow.

Let us close the gap between saying, "I'm all for peace," and actually being all for peace.

I am troubled about the clone troops now active in our cluster just as I am trouble by us capsuleers. How many, honestly, are responsible and restrained enough to handle the kind of destructive power afforded to us? Frankly, most of us should be pacifists if not for ideological reasons for the very fact that almost no one can responsibly use such means of force and destruction. What percentage of us can exercise the discipline and self-control to use such lethal force without the corruption of spite, hate, and other negative emotions? Maybe .01%, mavybe less.

The conflict now raging on Caldari prime troubles my spirit deaply. I hope against hope that cooler heads will prevail.

All for the sake of war... Men and women subjected to untested sleeper technology, now unable to control the resultant violent impulses. All of this is justified in the pursuit of the ultimate soldier. What is wrong with us. Do we hate our own shared humanity that much? Where is the measure of foresight that is so desperately needed?

It is a defect that conceives of the ultimate intelligence, creativity, strength, technology as automatically, necessarily applied to war. Why not to peace? Why not seek the ultimate "tool of peace?"

The middle report below was a confiscation of a cache of weapons. It is a small consolation that these will never again be used, but a consolation none-the-less.

Let us not think that war is glorious or noble. People can be noble in the midst of war, yes. Warriors can be men and women of honor even in the midst of that which is not a thing of honor. But, let us not define the thing, war, itself, as a positive. I think too often we do.

Why were 137 slavers and 203 slaver hounds abandoned together with a lesser number, 105 slaves? This is the first time we have done such a rescue where the number of slavers was this great. It seemed very odd to us. From what the slavers tell us, the State is assisting in the training of slaver hounds. The slaves were to be a part of the training exercises. The whole lot found themselves out in a death can, when the the capsuleer pilot lost his nerve and decided not to break customs and cross the border.

This is a growing issue where there is a clear cross-over between baseline law and capsuleer law. It is time for Concord to conference with governmental authorities to address the issue of when capsuleers break the law to help baseliners break the law. The number of slavers in our detention center and temporary centers is growing. With this rescue, another 137 are added.

Here is our quandry... We oppose execution, torture, and generational slavery as forms of criminal justice. The existence of our detention centers is predicated upon these values. We will not hand any slavers over to any authority without verifyable assurance that these values will be honored. Humane treatment must be extended even to slavers.

We would like to see the DED address this issue with the major sovereignties and to establish a neutral penal institution.

The Disciples of Ston wish to extend an invitation to any needing temporary refuge from the hsotilities on Caldari Prime. Our centers in both Caldari space and Gallente space are ready and equipped to receive guests in significant numbers. For those who may wish to seek shelter in neither Gallente nor Caldari space, our center in Concord space is also available. We can also provide transport.

We might be surprised at the number of ordinary people of both nationalities that simply want to live in peace, provide for their families and live out their lives. We might be surprised at the number of ordinary people who bear no malice toward their neighbors of different nationality, race, and religion. We might be surprised at the number of ordinary people whose dreams and aspirations are far from tthe boiling pot of hateful politics and nationalistic zeal.

Both sides need to stop and ask how they might feel if they were more ordinary, less powerful, less wealthy, and less defensive of what they might persnally lose of the "conflict" doesn't go their way. Is it really the "good" of our peoples we are all so zealously defending? or just our pride?

Ideologies and centrisms aside; political preferences aside; cultural affections aside; what would benefit us all more than peaceful co-existence? While liking your neighbor is preferable, tolerating your neighbor is required. I have begun to notice a decay of reason as the sides in the conflict circle their wagons. Not everyone who approaches you wants to kill you.

I know that this is a controversial issue, but I believe it is a core problem in the way that we make friends on a national scale. Most friendships are forged for economic benefit. That is fine, but shouldn't it rather be an accident of cooperation rather than its essence? If we formed our alliances around some doing of good, far separate from material gain, perhaps we would find that in the rare times we needed to defend each other, our reasons would not be so shallow.

The Following conversation occured today between Dr. Nalthkh and myself just prior to the rescue recorded below. It is so rare that we ever have a conversation that I thought I should log it. More importantly is that DSTON is planning to temporarily station two ships in Luminaire to stand by for humanitarian duty if needed. The DSS Assist is there now and Dr. Nalthkh is in transit with the DSS Sophomore as I write this.

[19:15:47] Tahrmal Nalthkh > On the way to pick up the DSS Sophomore from Khanid Prime. Will bring to Luminaire and stand by there.
[19:18:37] Ston Momaki > I will resume rescue patrols and return to pilot the DSS Assist now parked in Luminaire Fed Admin station.
[19:19:32] Tahrmal Nalthkh > Stay out of Luminaire unless I send for you, OK?
[19:21:40] Ston Momaki > Any particular reason why?
[19:22:56] Tahrmal Nalthkh > I hear rumors of massing forces. We can't help if we are blown to bits.
[19:23:26] Ston Momaki > Yes sir
[19:25:59] Ston Momaki > What's the crew compliment on the Sophomore?
[19:27:55] Tahrmal Nalthkh > 57 including med techs, EMT's and systems crew.
[19:28:49] Ston Momaki > I just spotted a can on the way back. I'm gonna pick up the Mayflower and head out.
[19:29:56] Ston Momaki > You're not going to patrol in the Sophomore are you?
[19:31:13] Tahrmal Nalthkh > no. I'll take out a rookie frigate. The Sophomore will be there if I need it for passengers. I won't risk crew just to see what's happening.
[19:33:26] Tahrmal Nalthkh > you there?
[19:35:54] Tahrmal Nalthkh > helloooo?
[19:38:52] Tahrmal Nalthkh > Ston?
[19:39:24] Ston Momaki > Sorry, I need to go. Talk to you later.

I ended the conversation because the rescue we were undertaking involved a measure of chaos. As you can see there were a variety of passengers aboard the deathcan including 8 hysterical young women all claiming to be Oura. The counseling staff in Ation will have their work cut out for them on this one.

I will stay on my normal patrol duty and Dr. Nalthkh will keep an eye out in Luminaire. If need be, I can get there quickly and pilot the DSS Assist in any rescue ops.

I have noticed a trend for pods filled with slaves to end up floating right outside of jump gates leading out of Amarr space. A prudent move for those wishing to avoid custom's reprisals, but also a pretty heartless one as well.

At any rate, if you ever want to make a pattern of regular patrols, that would be a good place to start. It seems that a lot pilots would rather just leave these people to die rather than spend thirty seconds docking at the nearest station and unloading them safely.

I received word a little while ago on corporate FTL from Dr. Nalthkh of the carnage in Luminaire. Both sides seem irredeemably consumed with such reckless hate. No rescues have yet been conducted today, but 3500 scourge missles have been confiscated, never to be used in hatred again. Small, small, small compensation for the thousands of crews that were wiped out today in Luminaire.

We might have a mascot of sorts now. We have not been able to coax the hound we rescued off the Mayflower. She won't leave. For now our crew rotations are happy to care for the animal and have her around on board. We will be careful to keep her from rescued slaves and so forth. Often, frightened animals are notriously dangerous to handle. Our experienced dog handlers were baffled on this case. The hound was timid, withdrawn, and anything but aggressive.

This small rescue was a meaningful symbol for all of us after the news of the bloodbath in Luminaire. Perhaps having this hound with us on our rescue journeys will help us remember that we value life and that we are here to protect and help the weak and fearful.

DSTON has no planetside connections or access on Caldari Prime and much larger organizations have taken up the cause of humanitarian relief for the refugees on the planet. This is good. Dr. Nalthkh has decided to return to the Tanoo office for the time being unless our help is needed. We have offered any of our facilities to refugees in need.

We will continue to watch the situation in Luminaire and do what we can when we can. For now, we are back to other work.

I am considering making contact with the DED regarding our growing Detention Center population. We need a solution that enfolds both justice and mercy. This is combination rare and difficult to maintain in the current civil climate.

I do not often post here, but it seemed the most appropriate to share this particular story here. We received 1121 former slaves into our Tanoo Center today from a pilot named Lucas Raholan. Along with the refugees, he also provided a generous supply of frozen food, dairy products and anti-biotics. Those he transfered to us told us of this pilot's mercy, kindness and care for them.

In our conversation, I asked if we could publically acknowledge this deed or if he wished to remain anonymous. As an Amarrian, there is some risk on his part. He told me of his opposition to slavery and that there were also others like him. I told him that we have met many Amarrian friends in our work. I am a former slave and yes I will tell you that I have met Amarrian friends with whom we share common values.

I commend this pilot for setting a good example not just for his people but for all who think that different cultures and nations cannot find common and unifying values. Having just returned from Luminaire after witnessing the horrible battle and loss of life, this experience was very much needed to restore a hope that peace is possible.

Thank you pilot Raholan and peace to you.

The potential cooperation between Ishukone and Gallente governmental authorities reminds me of the potential for all of us to suspend our feelings and to strive to do something good that needs to be done. There are times when we would rather just quit and take our toys home, but to set our faces hard against the task takes bravery. It takes the hardest kind of bravery; the bravery of humility.

It is nerve wracking for all of us when we have to wait out a timer to go back and rescue more people. There is no easy wait, not for me, not for my crew. What if the can is destroyed? What if we are too late. Thankfully, we were able to go back and rescue 30 more people in a third can that was too distant to make the first run.

All are safe

I do sincerely wish to be able to say that for the inhabitants of Caldari Prime. All are safe. For that matter, how seldom can we say this for anyone anywhere in these days of war, hatred, and vengeance. If each of us with the power we have and tools at our disposal were to strive to be able to say "all are safe" for as many under our care and influence, what better a universe we might inhabit.
