A long while back I purchased a toon used to scam a corp, and for the past year or so I've been largely inactive just training up skills.

Now that I'm a bit more active, I've been trying to get myself into a corp in order to legitimately use my toon with the sullied reputation but unsurprisingly seem to just get doors slammed in my face. Lately I've been running my own POS and just researching blueprints to pass the time, but I'm starting to get bored.

Since I'm running a POS, I've been considering starting up my own gig and seeing where it goes - but I'm not sure I can really be active enough to run a corporation.

Does anyone have any advice/experience with this kind of situation?

Why not just sell the character and buy a new one with a better reputation?

Its crossed my mind, but unfortunately I'm all carebear here, no real teeth to speak of that I could use to execute that plan.

First of all, your reputation is everything in EVE Online. People are paranoid for good reason in this game. If you bought a character with a bad reputation, that is unfortunately part of the package. You are stuck with it.

There are, however, a few options for you:

1) Be honest - mention up front that you purchased this character, and that this character has been used to scam/steal before. Link them to the character's sale thread where the character changed hands.

2) Don't just try to join random corporations. Get to know the locals and befriend them. If they like you, they may let you join their corporation despite your reputation. Hell, some corporations even make it a POINT to recruit people with bad reputations.

3) If you prefer a more meta-gaming strategy, you can start a new account with fresh characters with fresh reputations and try to join a corp that way. Once you have established yourself as a trusted member of the corporation, mention that you would like to have your main brought in. This would also be a good way to help repair some of the permanent damage to your reputation.

4) Start your own corporation. If you own the corporation, then the only one who can refuse you entry is yourself. And if that happens, you may have more important psychological issues to sort out before you worry about finding a corp.

My main also has this problem! Its all fun and games.
Only difference with yours and mine is that i didnt buy the toon, i made it from scratch and then accidently ruined its reputation by pulling off a few scams and a billion isk heist - and then realized how important your reputation is in EVE, when i attempted to find a new corp to try stuff my current corp cant offer. in the end i've just stayed in my current corp, but im a director so i can do what i want anyways! If your still struggling i may be able to help you out, mail this toon and i'll get back to you.

I think that's part of the problem, but my understanding of required hangar access is poor to say the least. My toon is a rorq/orca pilot, so I think that I require hangar access to even use those ships in a corp setting?

Going with the start my own corp theme, I'm kind of leaning that way because it's starting to seem like the time investment required to get into a corp where I can actually use these ships will exceed the time required to just get a couple folks together and move out to nullsec (somehow).

It would be much easier if I could just move my 1 man corp out to nullsec where some alliance will just let me carebear for their benefit.

Yea, there's really no way to truly verify that a toon is under new ownership - you wouldn't even need to buy the toon, you could just post with a couple of alts to make the sale look legitimate.

It seems like my only real option here is to work on my own corp :(
