wrong section - but
1) you don't want to mine
2) you don't want to mine in an iteron
3) if you want to haul see https://spreadsheets.google.com/pub?key=pL2_VjnQWzosfedBpxtV9Wg&output=html

My advice to a new miner.....

Never imply by word or deed that the minerals you mine are free, it's likely to get you forum ganked Blink

Also RE: ships - what the other guys said Big smile

Anyone asking about mining and mentioning an Iteron in the same sentence is T R O L L.

Maybe they pop cans and go collect there ore later, maybe they need to haul from wherever they mine it, maybe if you come into a thread with the sole purpose of calling someone a troll it actually makes you one. Roll

If you are looking to start out with mining your first mining ship shuld be a cruiser.

every race has a cruiser that receives a good mining bonus. I prefer the caldari osprey it mines better than the lowest mining barge the procurer.

After that you want to work towards a retriever

After retriever comes the covetor but once you can fly one you are only a couple days from getting into a hulk. the ultimate mining ship. however hulks are several hundred mil to buy last I checked. So if funds are tight get a covetor.

Iteron is a good hauling ship considering the iteron 5 is the highest cargo capacity of all the tech 1 industrial's when full expanded. but if you do not want to spend the time training a racial industrial to level 5 the mammoth is tier 4 and can hold almost a full jetcan fully expanded, actually over a full jet can if you use tech II cargo rigs.

Which brings us to the next issue. The most efficent way to mine is jetcan mining. there is some risk involved as your can can be stolen but the idea in to mine into the can until its full then swap ships to an industrial and go pick up the can. as a miner you will need an industrial to pick up cans and move your ore minerals around to get the best selling price.

Forget about mining with an industrial. it may seem worthwhile to have a single mining laser on an industrial and just afk while it slowly fills up. but it does not work so well in practice. even an osprey can mine enough to completely fill an industrial in about 15 minuites. besides most high sec roids are small and you need to frequently retarget to keep mining.

There are a lot of good mining guides out there if you google here is one Mining guide

Be patient and just ignore all the players that keep telling you mining is a waste of time. it is a good source of income for new players and a good way to learn the basics of the game before getting into higher skilled activities.

Bugsy provided a very thorough reply - great response and very accurate.

Need to know how much ore to mine in order to yield a certain order of minerals? https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=67477 It will even calculate how long you can expect for it to take!

Read that, learn it, use it and probably someday in future, forget it. :) (I still mine every now and then, it can be relaxing)

Run missions, make isk, buy more minerals than you would be able to mine in the same amount of time (at every SP level)

This. Mining is a mug's game. Even if you manage to avoid getting suicide ganked, war decced or ruthlessly mocked by the other carebears you'll never get rich from it.

Or better:

Clear sanctums in 1200+ DPS ships for 25M ticks...

Then again u cant run several of those without risking getting popped by rats themselves, let alone gankers... so then -> I have another mining / refining / indy / trade (lets say non combat) alt which is there because i can leave it afk and it doesnt bother anyone. PI basically covers its costs if u have nice nullsec PI filled up :)

Oh no not from that Crockite and Arkonor I found in High Sec available WH yesterday. Nope. Not rich at all.............Roll

Amazing how nobody ever mines but seemingly know ALL about it.

I've seen a lot of newer characters trying to mine in indys. I understand what causes the problem, even if it makes no sense from a yield or isk/hour perspective. When you're starting out, cargo space is a major problem. Your mining frigate has very little, and even with expanders, a cruiser often won't fare much better. The flying back and forth is a time sink, and costs you ISK each time you have to do it. So then you switch to jetcan mining. You get can-flipped, and maybe you lose a ship while learning how everything works. Then, seeing the long train required for serious mining ships, you switch to an iteron. It "solves" the problems you had before, if you aren't thinking about the math.

One more thing you should probably do is join a corporation. If you like to mine, there are a lot of corporations out there that would love to have a new member. Not only will they give you people to talk to while mining, they will also teach you the ropes.

Anything is an upgrade from an iteron. I mean literally anything. A rookie ship with 2 mining lasers is an upgrade from an iteron. Practically speaking, your next step should be an Exequror.

Thank you so much for all your replies. I picked the iteron because i could hold so much! Everyone told me not to jetcan because its dangerous. I am 2 days from getting my retriever which will help alot!

How do I join a corporation?
Also, I cannot seem to find any pyroxcres? I heard that is the big money maker.

Thanks everyone!
