The Rogue Swarm – the cosmic “Gold Rush”!

Sadly, it’s an event of owners of T2, T3 and Faction Cruisers with over 500 DPS!

The frigates are fast, but without enough DPS to clear sites fastly, while BC and BS are too slow for fast grind.

We know about “22.3% (2.3T) of the ISK was generated by 1.4% of characters earning bounties, using Supercarriers”, but this looks like “60% (XX B) of the ISK was generated by 5% of characters earning goodies, using T2, T3 and Faction Cruisers”.

I got some SKINS and, most importantly, a Rogue Swarm Accelerator, but other new bros are out of the game.

Considering my 250 DPS on my Vexor, I lost like 4 sites by being “outdpsed”. Just in case, after I cleared all drone waves someone jumps to the site and one shot the last boss just to drop the yellow can. I met players which passed the site which was already cleared also.

There should been three types of sites, based on their difficulty and rewards: Ligh, Medium and Heavy.

Just a word, if you’ll see a player on a bad ship clearing the site just leave him. Play in a greedy “White/Yellow” can if both of you cleared all the waves just for who’ll get the last “white” can, a 50/50% game.

I havn't even logged on and assume they're all being ran by Russians in npc corps and gilas, nows your chance to kill one. Just loot the can faster than them.

Oh, I perfectly understand, Hal Morsh — a mission like this requires courage, skill, and heroism… qualities you are clearly lacking. Have you forgotten you're one of the bloody immortals!?

if this is anything like the Guardian's Gala (which it sounds like it is)... after a few days the competition will die down a lot. So will the profits as the market floods, but I was able to run through tons of the gala sites with very little interference after the first few days of the gala.

This will lock the new-bros out of the huge profits that people got in the first hours... but they actually have a shot at those if they're lucking and how else could they have made isk totaling in the billions for very small amounts of work. I think everyone will be able to get whatever skins they want by the time the 2 weeks is up... the think they miss out on is the super huge profits from selling skins to outstanding buy orders for stuff that's not rare anymore due to this event.

I don't think that's a problem. New-bros aren't supposed to rake in a couple of billion isk for a few hours of work. The fact that they could get lucky and still get that is a big plus for them.

Sadly... by the time I'm done with work that's gone for me too... and I'm not a newbro.

Ran a couple of sites in highsec near Jita uncontested. The sites pile up in highsec as people don't bother much, likely after they found out that the drop rate of boosters in highsec is very low (I got none after 12 sites). In lower sec the drop rate is higher than 50%, and it looks like only the battleship end boss will drop boosters. In highsec the final spawn was always a cruiser.

I'm my own NPC alt.

Its not really random, the better damage dealer will get the final can, and you don't need 500 DPS, i'm sitting in a confessor with half that DPS and still managing to clear the site with stupid ease and i can even contest the locals :P

The only things worth anything from this event are the accelerators, and those only have a shelf life of 16 days as they all expire on the 30th

I got a booster from a BC. They have lower chance to warp in compared to Cruisers, like 30%. The BS boss, looks like a Dominix, also can warp in, but with a very low chance somewhere below 10%. IDK about BS's loot, because it was in a yellow can :(.

Interesting.

Hate to point this out, but if you are getting out-DPSed by the drones maybe you can kill the ninjas instead.

Or leave the boss and wait for the ninja with a gang.

Now as for boss popping, I recall a day when Tengus were all over highsec bullrushing the boss in 4/10s and those sites got restricted. So perhaps a similar mechanic might do but then, it would be more hilarious to see these boss poppers get some more grass-roots justice.

(Were it up to me™ the highsec and lowsec deadspace pockets these drones are likely in would be like little pockets of nullsec.... something something router disruption something something)

Rogue Swarm is just something CCP has given us to do.

For the last event like this we had, Guardians ?, I tried a few different ships, and kept failing when there were other competing ships. I fitted a Golem to target very fast and apply damage. I only lost 2 out of 33 efforts.

With the Golem targeting fast and one shooting all the ships, all I had to do was get a tractor beam on the last ship, and no one could take it away. I ended up with about 30 skins that I really couldn't sell. So that was a waste of time and effort. It was fun, beating everyone else to the prize, but after a few days was just boring.

Now, the Rogue Swarm. Same thing. Except that after a couple of hours, it's already boring.

I read where someone said these were easier than the previous one. So, I took out a very large dps heavy missile Tengu.
It didn't do so well. I lost three skins to the group that I was competing against. So enough of that, I don't go for luck or chance of winning something.

Refitted the Golem, like I did for the Guardians, and in a group of challengers, I've already won 5/5, and it's already boring. Now I've got 5 skins, that I won't be able to sell, let alone give away because of a flooded market. I don't see the point now.

This is not something for destroyers, or cruisers. A Gila did pretty good. Tengu failed. Alphas will fail. If you're all by yourself, maybe any ship will be able to get thru it. Other than that it will give some, something new to do for a while.

There was a suspect rattlesnake just sitting in a deadspace pocket, of all things.

Too bad I didn't probe him :/

Great post,
At least this confirms to me there ARE decent people that play this game as well, some of this voices my concerns as a new player "clearing" a spot 4 times in a row for people to come "steal" my can at the last second when nothing but the last ship spawns. Doesn't really concern me anymore since I decided to not to further participate in this event since there is no way for me to have a dps match against veteran players. (in high sec noobert areas)

The drops are not really worth it. But opening a yellow can lead to some interesting outcome. I suggest you try and see the reaction... That is the point of this event. Fit a PvP ship and kick ass by opening the intruder yellow container, I Garantee lots of fun.

If you are in a 250dps Vexor, I would suggest talking to your corp mates for fitting help. It 'should' even with T1 fittings be getting more than that.

I'm doing it in a harbinger with 700 dps and hyperspatia rigs.
I've lost a few sites to undergunned ships stealing my wreck after I sniped their spawn.
And lost to a few gnosis's on the alpha shot. It's really a 50/50 toss up when two bcs shoot a cruiser at the same time. If one of us doesn't one hit it, we will do enough damage to guarantee the other guy gets the last hit. Kind of a quickdraw thing.

If you can't get them, position yourself right on the wreck and loot it and gtfo, or go to some quieter areas. Theyre doable though. Much easier for new players than the gala sites.

My main grievance is the Plex drop is a joke.
1 Plex? Just give me a random skin. 1 Plex is useless.
If they were gonna bother to add Plex make it 50-100-150-200 and increasing rarity by volume.
But don't waste my time on 1 Plex. I've gotten 2 Plex out of 40 sites. How am I supposed to get 500 by the end of the event. Smh.

These sites are so easy these mofos are flying around max sensor boosted. Never seen so many people sat there waiting for overseer to warp in and insta-lock & popping it.

Waist of time for me this event.

Heh, that yellow can looks like a kill right scam. I’m feeling, like half (or maybe 30%) of Hi-Sec players doing this “time spending”, on their top ships, just for such a pvp scam and not for that loot. You know, there are virtual corporations in NPC corporations. In some cases, the ninja loot will work, but mainly you’ll get instant Disruptor after which half of local cruisers will warp in. Anyway, it not worth to spend time on it. As a result, you’ll just collect a “Bounty Shamballa” around your neck.

I noticed that some fleet groups patrolling one or two constellations, using a fast frigate. I found a drone beacon in a total unpopulated dead end system… local is empty… I began to clear the site… some tackler entered in the system… 40 seconds passed… in the system appeared a strategic destroyer and two special cruisers which appeared to my site in 5-10 sec after that. During the last 3 months, I’m living in low-sec border lands and WHs. Such a technique is used by WH “predators”. Even low-sec habitants don’t use such a special fleets and methods.
