We support each other in everything: she needs a new violin, she gets it. I need a new computer or guitar or amplifier, I get it. The house needs cleaning, we work together to get it done and if one isn't here, the other does things in order to make each other happy like cooking, cleaning, expenses, etc. We live within our means and we work together as a married couple should. We share the same goals and ideals as well as the same passions. If she wants to do something that I don't want to do, unless it's something that is very important to her, she has no problem doing things by herself AND doing it without holding it over my head for a month on a guilt trip.

She's also my second marriage. My first wife was American and I learned everything that I didn't want in a relationship from her (and all my past American girlfriends). Years later, I met my current wife out of sheer luck on a train coming home to my city from Milan. It has been the most fulfilling, most fun, and best time in my life being married to her. This isn't to say that all European women are as awesome as my wife, but there definitely is an understanding here about personal space and interests and respecting them from both parties.

This is what a marriage should be. People say, "Marriage is hard work!". No, it's not. If it's hard work, then you're in a bad marriage and you need to get out. I've been there and I can say that if something feels wrong then it's probably wrong. No amount of counseling or therapy or self-help books will change the fact that western women tend to be needy, selfish vampires. Most importantly, however, unless you're a complete douchebag and treat your wife like crap, you don't deserve being treated that way. It's not normal and society has ingrained into us that "that's just how it is". Bullshit. That's NOT how it is and it shouldn't be that way.

Anyway, you actually do have a point. The loudest deniers, the biggest hounds / womanizers / skirt chasers, are usually fellow homo's. It's like meeting a Cylon that doesn't realize he's a Cylon. While it's tempting to play a snazzy version of "All Along the Watchtower" to switch them on, I feel it's more polite to let them realize that about themselves in their own time. Pirate

I think because it is co-morbid with so many other things that it can be perceived as a catch all disorder. However once we develop new treatments and diagnostic procedures I think you will find that autism is actually far less common then people think. What is common are disorders or I should say variations of disorders that do not meet other criteria so they fall into the rather broad criteria of autism.

Well, Kanner's Syndrome autism may not be a prevalent as people think. (That's the "classic" autism people think of, with inhibited social interaction, lessened communication, persistative behavior). But I think atypical neurology may be more common than people think, whatever it's called (Asberger's, Angelman, autism, PDD/NOS, etc.) Someday there will probably be dozens of narrower, more specifically-defined "syndromes" that are now all lumped together as "autism."

And on the subtopic of American woman and what might be wrong with them.... This recent article "All the Single Ladies" from The Atlantic explains a lot. It's by an ambitious, successful, well-educated, 30-something, single female journalist. Great for the insights on American women she has-- as well as for the screwed-up things she doesn't notice and is guilty of herself.
