Look to Windward - Iain M Banks.

Shame he is dead. Been rereading the culture series from the beginning.
The world is lighter for his loss.
Not a godbotherer, as he would term it, just a shame.

I'm starting that series too. I hope it'll take me less than a year to finish it all.

The Eye of the World - Robert Jordan

EDIT:

The whole series is 11898 pages.Let's say 12.000 pages. 1000 pages per month if I read it an entire year.

I'll need to read it fast so I don't end up reading it all year......BLAZING FAST to be precise.

The Apocalype - The Undead World

Good old zombie apoc story - definitely a really good read. Very brutal, and probably fairly honest account of human nature in that kind of world.

The Alchemyst: The Secrets of the Immortal Nicholas Flamel It was recommended to me, as I love SciFi and Fantasy books. I've read about the first 3 chapters now, and its starting out good.

Anyone know of any GOOD GLBT books? MM romance, SciFi, or Fantasy.

Such a good read so far - just as good as 1984 for anyone who has read it.

I worked in a public library as a schoolboy - a Saturday job, which left ample time for my studies (or would have done so had I actually been studious). Books everywhere: new books, old books, good books, c**p books. I read the lot.

Fast forward a very long way. For the past 10 years or so I've been completely unable to read novels of any kind. I don't know what happened; it just died. But I am an avid reader of non-fiction, though I'm far more selective than that tousle-headed schoolkid of yesteryear. Currently reading:

Alexander the Great - Robin Lane Fox

Among the Russians - Colin Thubron

Pleased to see so many people sharing my enjoyment of reading for pleasure and instruction!

Karl Marlantes, Matterhorn: A Novel of the Vietnam War Really great, actually my second time reading it. Background:
-The author was a USMC 2nd Lt in Vietnam
-It took him 30 years to finish the book
-It takes place in the mountains near the North Vietnam border, where there were a series of "conventional war" hard battles between regular (not guerilla) troops
-The author's next book was autobiographical long essay-like. Inferentially, it explains a lot about the characters in Matterhorn.

Still looking for any good Gay themed books.

Not sure how good it would be, but yeah I should take a stab at it. Thanks for suggesting it. Big smile

If you want to get some warm up writing some short fiction in an Eve setting, here are some places to post and get feedback:
-EVE Fiction forum, of course. There will probably be a writing contest announced there in a couple of months.
-EVE Fiction forum at Backstage
-Pod & Planet Eve fiction contest (in Fall 2017)

'The Rapture Verdict,' by Michael T. Snyder

So far, nothing terribly new, but he's presenting information in a way far more conducive to comprehension in the layman. Most texts on this subject are full of terms, concepts, and doctrines presented from the point of a theologian, and clearly written to that same audience.

Was a great book I picked up in Germany many years ago. Oldie but a goodie.

Atm Milton's Paradise Lost and Paradise Regained and Robert Jordan's final book are sitting in my bathroom as light reading material.

Last books I checked out of our local library was Without Conscience from the guy who literally wrote the Psychopathy Checklist our own UBC professor Robert Hare, one of the worlds leading authorities on psychopathy and Leningrad.
