Each spaceship hull in EVE Online has a history - from the first hull plate manufactured to the final explosion. Some ships survive the harshness of space for years, being the champions and pride of their owners, some others explode within hours after their assembly.

To reflect this history and to give your spaceships a more personal touch, several features will arrive in New Eden with the release of our next expansion on December 8.

Dirt and killmarks on the hulls are going to show the amount of kills that were scored with this individual ship hull.

Nice !

Quote:
Ships don’t get a mark for destroying “lower tier” targets, either. The destruction of Pods, Shuttles, Rookie Ships, and unmanned vessels represents very little accomplishment to an established combat veteran, and won’t generate a mark. And capsuleers won’t be chalking up hulls with structure, can, wreck, drone, or NPC kills.

What is meant by "Lower tier" ?
A BS killing a cruiser won't get a mark ? or a T2 hulls won't get a mark for killing it's T1 hull?

So just to verify - you can see other capsuleers killmarks on their ship right?

Worry not, lower tier just refers to the examples listed in the rest of the quoted text (i.e Pods, Shuttles, Rookie Ships etc)

I hope so ^^

Can you make the single mark clickable to pop up the kill mail ? (you won't be able to open more than the last 9 kills) ?

I've seen some excellently imaginative and difficult feature requests in my time, but this might be my favourite! Big smile

Really? Who Cares about Dirty ships or killmarks... why don't you use the time fixing actual game problems... War Shedding comes to mind, as It is annoying as hell that a war is declared, all toons in decced corp drop corp and create a new one and continue on, no consequenses but the aggressing corp is out the WarDec isk...

We used to have a loading bar when jumping a few years ago ^^
Tomorrow, we will have a new camera system with fighter squadron and new amazing skin

One day we might have part of the UI implemented into 3D models in space. Keep this idea on a post-it :)

Some part of the game needs love, you are right.
But who wants to play a game that does not evolve on graphics too ? would you play to a game that is 2003 style ? http://static.ogl.ru/i/00/00/17/82/l1075707681.jpg

Some quick thoughts...

- most of your players are PvErs, and they tend to stick for long with their ships. What made you think that they would not enjoy/deserve showing kill marks and battle scars on their ships? Specially since PvE ships see 100x more violence than the average die-too-young PvP ship... Roll

- dirt and killmarks are fine. But if you want a real challenge, make EVE's suns dim and shrink over distance in a realistic way. For 7 years I've never achieved to pretend that I'm traveling billions of kilometers around a "star" that shines continuously like a lightbulb in the middle of a room... Ugh

Will the dirt accumilation open up some revisiting to current ship paintjobs? Some of the Caldari ships, like the Ferox, or Charon have lots of bits (most of the striping too) where paint is missing, that could use a bit of a touchup. These scuffs show a lot of wear and tear, while fresh from the assembly line.

Question about a specific hull.

The rattlesnake

It already has wear in leading edges, sign of a prolonged life and wear from space dust. Particularly on the sharp edges. Will the rattler skin be revised for this and will other ships develop this "wear"

As somebody who pve's a different take on this might be in order. Standings perhaps can earn/lose you marks with factions. The PvE version of a killmark can be for being in tops of completing incursions or something if they get revised. This way ships get medals of honor for surviving high risk pve encounters or rare escalations. Something that can be lost, but not just awarded for farming a status quo.

To quote Lfod Shi

The ratting itself is PvE. Getting away with it is PvP.

I'm looking forward to this. I don't lose my PvE ships that often so it will be nice to see a visual representation of that.

+1 for the Conan reference :P

and btw why does cleaning your ship not consume fedos :(

how to fix eve: 1) remove ECM 2) rename dampeners to ECM 3) add new anti-drone ewar for caldari 4) give offgrid boosters ongrid combat value

Certainly some system could be worked out. Risk and reward and yadda yadda yadda. 1 kill mark for completing 10 succesful missions and whatever.

Yet the point is CCP has not even *thought* about rewarding PvErs.

Who fight more? PvErs
Who value their ships more? PvErs
Who keep their ships longer? PvErs

So CCP rewards, for their loyalty using their ships a lot and keeping them alive, the PvPrs. And PvErs can just pay another month of subscription and eat sh*t.

Aside from being aesthetically provident, these features are going to enhance the psychological investment players form with their ships. Skins do that to some degree but it's more of an ego build than an emotional story that grows with the content itself. As players survive wild skirmishes and overcome profound odds they will remember each and every kill mark, this is a solid tactic to build player engagement. Just as well the loss will feel even more profound when that same player eventually losses their prized ship to somebody else just as desperate to prove themselves in the cold harsh world of new eden.

Kudos to you CCP, I am not easily impressed.

To be fair though, It would be more difficult potentially to work that in with a meaningful measure, at best on the storyline missions get a medallion.

PvEers are getting content and upgrades to NPC play, I hold that in much higher value than a kill mark :D
