imho, everyone under 10m SP or 1 year old (mains only) should get the free 400k sp so they dont feel cheated, or even better everyone Twisted

What reason is there that they shouldn't they give 350k SP to everyone? No matter how long you've been playing, at some point you paid a subscription and spent 1-2 weeks training the new skills.

Oh my God this is such little sp it's actually negligible.

It's like my children arguing that one of them got one extra chip (French fry for the amaricans amongst us)

They're just going to waste it on mining anyway so .

Seems like a good move to me. I know CCP were looking at higher levels, so I guess they will watch what affect this has on making the NPE and or training into some basic fits, a bit easier.

If anyone is wondering where this is from, it's in the Vanguard patch notes:

Multi-buy next release too. \o/

That multibuy is like the best thing ever!

Next step, Multi-Buy + Fit, so can just dock buy+fit and fly out!

Eh, why not make it 10 M, so they will have a lot of choices available.

Great idea. I shall call it the “I have done wrong; market, punish me” button. Lol

Consider the move a giant digital tissue we must issue to the hordes of crybabies who now "game".

There just isn't anything that can be said!

I think it's a good move. It IS quite painful to be new in a game where everyone has zillions of SP. Even my forum alt has multiples of that 400K. So here's me cheering the devs.

And if the crybabies insist this somehow steals their efforts... well, the devs could always consider granting 400K free SP per account, to be spent on any character. Would solve the issue for people who only JUST missed the boat too.

I just hope the SP will include Industry 1. The NPE is giving a tough ride to noobs who can't figure that they need a skill to complete the industry objective, since the industry interface doesn't includes any warning about missing skills.

Giving it all some thought this would be a logical reason for the change. Previously the tutorial would give you some free skills etc and would ease you into the game more. Now that that's gone they make up for it with a more complete character with more skills and go "well, good luck!".

Good change. Should probably have been a bit more but this is good.

You can give new players 20 mill sp , or even 50 mill sp.....it is knowledge of the game that will still not help them .....

If you gave a newbie an all V alt they will still whine about not being able to PVP because he doesn't even know how to use or even fly a titan as he whelps it into a lowsec gategun.

New excuses include "PVP IS TOO EXPENSIVE" and other silly things.

Post with your NPC alt main and not your main main alt!

Here's the new starter skill set, looks like they're minding completion of the NPE:

By the way, I found that after Neville Smit's blog, which pointed how it had been posted on a Tweet by ISD Rontea. Also the Skill change has not been announced, rather it was just dropped on the Patch notes. No OFFICIAL communication on the OFFICIAL forums, you know, very à-la-latest-fad-from-Rek.

CCP should keep working on that Communications III... Roll

The Idea is to give new players a option. Not many options, not all options.

Character progression is still a strong point. Beeing able to fly that new ship gives you something that you can look forward to. Its rewarding when you finally sit in that ship you waited for so long.

If you give them 10M skillpoints, you take away a big part of it.

500k - 1M gives them the option to fly something "that works" while they skill up to the more powerfull ships.

This is dumb.

It's just a creeping effect. New players aren't going to feel any less overwhelmed by the skills they don't have just because they'll be starting with a few more than previous ones did.

You all think this is a good change because you have a basis of comparison. A new player starting after this change isn't going to notice any difference.

I mean I really don't care about the SP, it's only... what, one weeks worth? I just don't see how this will change anything about the new player experience.

It won't. The more that's given away for free, the less choices new players are allowed to make. Eventually that will start to make them whine. We already have purists of every kind who don't want that one rank in ${whatever}. Now we're just going to hear more of that from the ones who stick around.

The change is too small to be noticed and as you point out it won't make any real difference to future new players.
