Thats exactly what we do when we have some massive problems with our infrastructure at the datacenter and everyone is doing overtime.

You're not going to be working in IT for very long if you think "going home and getting some sleep" is the way to make your customers happy.


i am working in IT too and yeah what do you know, even IT guys need food and rest. we did some emergency scenarios in our company (ok we are only 2 people managing the IT :P) but you have to plan for rest and food in case **** hits the fan seriously... if you are tired and still working chances are that you **** things up even more.

so his advice is actualy sound!

It's not sound, I hope I will never have to deal with you. If there's an issue you/your team stay up until it's fixed. Unless your "IT job" is a couple of webpages for your dad's corner shop.

We forcibly remove overtired people from major incs and when our **** is down, we hear about it on the news.

We don't use MS Windows, but have a few copies installed in VMs for testing (with some funny/fake data files)

On the plus side i found out my wife's name again and that's not the only thing as there were 2 kids here with her i'm a daddy of 2 boys one at 3 years old and one just over a year old, i wondered what all that noise was.

I have been in one of those 18 hour marathon system down sessions that required pizza. Granted that ended up being a hardware error with slightly loose cable that would cause the mainframe to randomly crash every 15-30 minutes. Those are the ones that drive you insane because it did it the day after we upgraded to a new software level.
