200m/hour for low sec carebearing with minimal time in space sure is nice Lol
love the way most of the community look down their noses at it, while most of the rest have no idea how to optimize it, and I cash in on their absence/stupidity.

pro tip guys, CCP need you to PI for the dust link to work. half their company depends on it!
look at it this way:
no PI -> no dust -> no CCP -> no eve...
ofc they made it ridiculously profitable.

No Dust just means they can stop farting about and put resources into tangible elements of eve instead of making a tenuous link to a game that will be dead after 6 months.

I just cant understand WHY?!? PS3? Who the **** wants PS anyway?

On PC they would have player base to start with.

Im certain at least half of EVE players would purchase PC!!! version of dust - i know i would.

Action game like that is good way to endure sometimes boring moments in EVE.

My guess CCP will realise this later on and try to add PC platform but conversion will fail horribly.

Trust me, I almost know what I'm doing.

The sad thing is I'm one the potential players I guess:

1. Eve Addict.
2. Own PS3
3. Buy lots of games.

But even I'm not interested in Dust because of lol :microtransactions:

Youtube on a TV, which means ponies on a proper screen.

Personally I really hope they'll succeed, as it will bring infinite more meaning and fun to the EVE experience.

However, the type of players interested in playing for keeps in persistent worlds are not neccessarly the types of players that want to play on PS3 using a microtransaction business model. CCP is taking a huge risk here, and I havent seen anything written or otherwise that would indicate that they have really thought this one trough.

Microtransactions and persistence is basically on opposing ends of the scale for me. Most people allready realizes that so called free to play games cant be won without cash injection (free to play = pay to win), and I dont see it as a sustainable business model for games that relies on persistent customers. My gut feeling is that CCP will miss their player demographic, but time will tell.

It's PS3 only because Microsoft weren't flexible enough to allow CCP to do what they want on the Xbox platform. Sony are a lot more open.

I too would prefer it to be on the Xbox but meh - I don;t really play console games anyway.

If it does flop on Playstation, CCP could always re-release it on PC. I'm happy to bet that a lot of EVE players are willing to buy it on PC.

So basically, you only have to pay about $20 for a potentially great game, and you yourself will never have to pay any of these microtransactions since you have your own isk from eve to use... but you will refuse to play it because of some arrogant, outlandish pride against the system everybody has adopted.

Have fun playing basically no games in ten years.

I think CCP are hoping to broaden the EVE audience by drawing console gamers to the EVE universe.

I also think what they're going to end up with is the intersection of PC gamers that own consoles that also already love EVE, and not a (lasting) new audience from the console crowd.

Why?

1. Microtransactions - not sexy.
2. Console gamers aren't MMO-style players (unless they're also already PC gamers)
3. There are dozens of shooters around; 2 very new ones. The link to a PC world will only appeal to those that already love PC games.
4. Console gamers are "latest and greatest" types. They'll upgrade to the new console and new GOTW. For the Dust-EVE link to matter it needs a lasting audience, not a fickle one.
5. It's CCP - foresight isn't their forte.

I'd love to see it succeed - I think its a fantastic expansion for the EVE universe. And I want to see it on PC - I have no intentions of buying anymore consoles.

(Keep in mind this is all just based on my perceptions having grown up on Atari and Nintendo and graduated to computers. I've bought a PS2 and Wii for the kids in the past but they're graduating to PC games too. Next gaming-anything I buy will be another PC, not an aging PS3 unless I find a cheap one at a garage sale)

What I never understood about DUST: The idea is that FPS mercenaries will fight our battles for planets. But there are many thousands of planets in EVE. Even if DUST has 100k active players, the fights would be scattered throughout the universe. Why even fight over one planet at all when there are thousands of others?

Planets just don't seem in scarce supply to me. Why would I want to attack a specific colony?

I really don't get how CCP thought it's a good idea to tie a PC based MMO to a console based FPS.... It's going to be such a monetary sink for the company and they apparently don't understand you can't spawn RL cash like ISK.

Port it to PC where it can be updated and properly utilized.

Comparing a PC MMO to a console game is stupid.

Console games have a distinct lifespan.
